A validated HPLC‐PDA method for identification and quantification of two bioactive alkaloids,ephedrine and cryptolepine,in different Sida species

A simple, rapid, accurate and reproducible reverse‐phase HPLC method has been developed for the identification and quantification of two alkaloids ephedrine and cryptolepine in different extracts of Sida species using photodiode array detection. Baseline separation of the two alkaloids was achieved on a Waters RP‐18 X‐terra column (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) using a solvent system consisting of a mixture of water containing 0.1% Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and acetonitrile in a gradient elution mode with detection at 210 and 280 nm for ephedrine and cryptolepine, respectively. The calibration curves were linear in a concentration range of 10–250 µg/mL for both the alkaloids with correlation coefficient values >0.99. The limits of detection and quantification for ephedrine and cryptolepine were 5 and 10 µg/mL and 2.5 and 5 µg/mL, respectively. Relative standard deviation values for intra‐day and inter‐day precision were 1.22 and 1.04% for ephedrine and 1.71 and 2.06% for cryptolepine, respectively. Analytical recovery ranged from 92.46 to 103.95%. The developed HPLC method was applied to identify and quantify ephedrine and cryptolepine in different extracts of Sida species. One-Pot Synthesis of 2-Arylthiazolines with 1-Butyl-3-Methylimidazolium Tribromide as a Catalytic Reagent

Abstract

A simple, inexpensive, and efficient one-pot synthesis of 2-arylthiazoline derivatives under solvent-free conditions using a catalytic amount of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tribromide with excellent product yields is reported. This methodology provides easy, quantitative access to various 2-arylthiazoline derivatives, using environmentally benign 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tribromide as a catalyst.     

A Facile Synthesis of [Tetrahydrofuran‐3H] Terazosin

Platanus acerifolia’s buds: additional non-polar metabolites and structure revision of two previous dihydrochalcone-like metabolites

In addition to the methylated and prenylated flavonoids previously reported from Platanus acerifolia, the multistep chromatographic processing of the n-hexane extract of the fresh unripe buds resulted in the isolation of 11 metabolites. Besides six common wax constituents, the n-hexane portion led to the isolation of four gem-dimethylpyrano flavanones. They corresponded to two pairs of angular and linear isomers derived only from pinocembrin (5,7-dihydroxyflavanone). Additionally, a novel β-decadione was split into the major keto-enol tautomer as shown by the detailed NMR and EIMS analyses. Moreover, the structures of grenoblone and 4-hydroxygrenoblone, two previously reported dihydrochalcone-like metabolites, were revised according to the EIMS spectra.

PROTONATION CONSTANTS AND SOLVENT DEPENDENT SPIN-CROSSOVER BEHAVIOUR OF IRON(II)-2-(2′-PYRIDYL)BENZIMIDAZOLE COMPLEXES

Abstract

2-(2′-Pyridyl)benzimidazole (pybzim = LH) coordinates to iron(II) as a bidentate and forms the tris-ligated complex, [Fe(pybzim)₃]²⁺ as isolated in the solid. Titration of [Fe(pybzim)₃]²⁺ with base demonstrates the successive deprotonation of the imino hydrogens of the coordinated ligands. Protonation constants for the free ligand, pybzim (Iog₁₀ K ^H = 11.33) and the complex, [Fe(pybzim)₃]²⁺ (log₁₀ K ^H ₁ = 9.58, log₁₀ K ^H ₂ = 8.13 and log₁₀ K ^H ₃ = 6.97) were measured in 30% (v/v) H₂O/EtOH. Results show that coordination to iron(II) increases the acidity of the imino hydrogen of the ligand. Spin-crossover behaviour of the complex were studied in different solvents ME, AC, AN, NM, NB, DMF, DMSO and ANL. The complex shows strong spin-crossover behaviour which is solvent dependent. Values of the spin-equilibrium constant (K _sc) and the associated thermodynamic parameters (ΔH _sc = 18.1–21.3 kJ mol^?1 and δS _sc = 69.6–84.4JK^?1 mol^?1) were calculated. An increase of the enthalpy is observed with increasing donor number (DN) of the solvent.
