The benzene ring as a dipolarophile: Reactions of monosubstituted benzenes with tetracyanoethylene oxide

Summary The reaction of tetracyanoethylene oxide on one hand and toluene, chlorobenzene, fluorobenzene, anisole, and nitrobenzene, on the other, has been studied. Toluene and the halogenobenzenes yield mixtures of monoadducts, anisole yieldp-methoxyphenylmalononitrile and its dimer and nitrobenzene does not react. These results are discussed with the help of a qualitative orbital model.¹H-NMR analysis of some monoadducts has been carried out.

Der Benzolring als Dipolarophil: Reaktionen monosubstituierter Benzole mit Tetracyanoethylenoxid

Zusammenfassung Es wurden die Reaktionen von Tetracyanoethylenoxid mit Toluol, Chlorbenzol, Fluorbenzol, Anisol und Nitrobenzol untersucht. Toluol und die Halogenbenzole ergaben Mischungen von Monoaddukten, Anisol ergabp-Methoxyphenylmalononitril und sein Dimer, Nitrobenzol zeigte keine Reaktion. Diese Resultate werden mit Hilfe eines qualitativen Orbitalmodells diskutiert. Die Analyse einiger Monoaddukte erfolgte mittels¹H-NMR-Analyse.

     

Electronic structure and conformational flexibility of 1,4-dihydroazines and their 4-ylide derivatives

The conformational flexibility of 1,4-dihydropyridine, 1,4-dihydropyrimidine, 1,4-dihydropyridazine, 1,4-dihydro-1,3,5-triazine, and their 4-oxo, imino, and methylene derivatives was studied by the semiempirical quantum-chemical AM1 method. It was demonstrated that the replacement of the methylene group in the dihydroazine ring by the exocyclic double bond results only in an increase in the rigidity of the heterocycle rather than leading to a loss of its conformational flexibility. It was suggested that nonplanar conformations of rings in ylide derivatives are stabilized by the nonaromatic cyclic -system. Introduction of the exocyclic double bond does not cause a substantial change in the -electronic structure of the heterocycle. The aromaticity indicesI ₆ andI ₆() were calculated. The correlation between these indices and a change in the energy upon bending of the heterocycle was established.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. 本文叙述氨基酸及其对映体的全氟酰基烷基脂(O-异丙基、-异丁基、-正丁基;N(O,S)-三氟乙酰基,TFA、-七氟丁酰基,HFB)在Chirasil-Val上的洗脱特性。随烷基取代增大,保留时间增加;用HFB代替TFA,对映体的分离因子降低。此外,DL-氨基酸与另丁醇衍生,生成的对映及非对映衍生物在Chirasil-Val上可拆分成四个色谱峰。

Summary Guided by molecular modeling studies, the synthesis of the title compound is described. The organoleptic evaluation proved the predicted real sandal like odour of (Z)-dehydro-homo--santalol.

Approximate first-order and second-order directional derivatives of a marginal function in convex optimization

Given a convex functionf: ^p × ^q (–, +], the marginal function is defined on ^p by (x)=inf{f(x, y)|y ^q }. Our purpose in this paper is to express the approximate first-order and second-order directional derivatives of atx ₀ in terms of those off at (x ₀,y ₀), wherey ₀ is any element for which (x ₀)=f(x ₀,y ₀).The author is indebted to one referee for pointing out an inaccuracy in an earlier version of Theorem 4.1.     

Synthesis of Thiourea Derivatives on Soluble Polymeric Support

A modified poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) has been developed as the soluble polymeric supports for liquid phase synthesis of novel thiourea derivatives.In each step of the sequence,the PEG-bound products were precipitated in cold Et2O and the unreacted materials and by-products were removed by simple filtration.The progress of reaction,purity of the isolation and the structure of the PEG-bound products were easily monitored by TLC,IR and ^1H NMR spectra.Representative thiourea derivatives were obtained in moderate yields with excellent purity from this modified PEG-bound product by the cleavage with 50% TFA/H2O.     

Trace analysis of selected benzidine and diaminodiphenylmethane derivates in urine by means of liquid chromatography using precolumn sample preconcentration,UV and electrochemical detection

Summary For the title compounds 4,4-DADPM, MOCA, 3,3-DCB, 4-ADP and 4-ADPA listing on the EPA priority pollutant list, an analytical practicable, reliable, reproducible and sensitive procedure is required. Therefore a new method has been developed for the routine determination of these toxic aromatic amines in urine at the ppb level. The quantitative determination of amines is a suitable procedure of occupationally exposed persons. Urine sample preparation is done using simple liquid-liquid extraction followed by a precolumn enrichment (PRP₁-material; Hamilton). Breakthrough measurements were done using an enrichment column packed with PRP₁ material. The capacities of the studied amines ranged from 21.9mg/g to 96.6mg/g, while influent concentrations differed from 28.3mg/l to 332.0mg/l. The advantages of electrochemical detection regarding to selectivity and sensitivity are clearly indicated in this paper. Separation has been achieved applying reversed-phase-high-performance-liquid chromatography (LiChrosorb RP 18/5m) followed by electrochemical or UV-detection. The detection limits employing an electrochemical detector at a potential of 1 V range from 2.2ng to 12.1ng. UV detection at 254 nm and 280 nm is about 10–100 times less sensitive. Recoveries from spiked water samples at the 5ppb levels were 75% to 96% respectively. The standard deviation of the developed procedure varies from 5.3% to 14%. Day-to-day repeatability is good.     

Synthesis and spectroscopic properties of highly water-soluble perylene derivatives

Most known perylene diimides are lipophilic, with few exceptions of hydrophilic derivatives. Even in the latter case, the compounds have limited water solubility and show a strong tendency to self-aggregation. In this paper we present the synthesis of four new perylene derivatives with three and four basic side chains, obtained by functionalizing the bay-area of perylene. These molecules show great solubility in aqueous media as hydrochlorides and their tendency to self-aggregate is remarkably reduced with respect to the previously synthesized two-chained perylene diimides. Their different spectroscopic properties in various solvents and conditions are reported and discussed.
