Fairly accurate approximate expressions for commonly used characteristics of non‐planarity of trigonal sp2‐hybridized centers are reported. It is shown that the behavior of all these parameters as a function of bond angles (α, β, γ) is determined primarily by the square‐root of the difference [360° ? (α + β + γ)]. Physicochemical and biologic analysis of dairy wastewater showed that the effluent had a high organic load (chemical oxygen
demand [COD]: 5095 mg/L), an acidic pH (6.4), and a high probability of coliforms (most probable number [MPN]>1100). The various
bacterial strains isolated and purified were identified as Sporolactobacillus sp., Citrobacter sp., Pseudomonas sp., Alcaligenes sp., Bacillus sp., Staphylococcus sp., and Proteus sp., as per the Bergey’s manual of systematic bacteriology. Among the five selected bacterial strains, the strain designated
as MMRR7 and identified as Alcaligenes sp. was found to give a maximum reduction in COD (62%) in 5 d of incubation. Chemical coagulation using alum at a concentration
of 0.5 g/100 mL was found to be effective in the primary treatment of the effluent. Studies on free-cell treatment of the
coagulated effluent with the selected bacterial strain Alcaligenes sp. MMRR7 gave a maximum COD reduction of 91% in 120 h. This study clearly indicates the possibility of using Alcaligenes sp. MMRR7 for the effective treatment of dairy wastewater. 相似文献

The oil palm sector is one of the major plantation industries in Malaysia. Palm kernel cake is a byproduct of extracted palm
kernel oil. Mostly palm kernel cake is wasted or is mixed with other nutrients and used as animal feed, especially for ruminant
animals. Recently, palm kernel cake has been identified as an important ingredient for the formulation of animal feed, and
it is also exported especially to Europe, South Korea, and Japan. It can barely be consumed by nonruminant (monogastric) animals
owing to the high percentages of hemicellulose and cellulose contents. Palm kernel cake must undergo suitable pretreatment
in order to decrease the percentage of hemicellulose and cellulose. One of the methods employed in this study is fermentation
with microorganisms, particularly fungi, to partially degrade the hemicellulose and cellulose content. This work focused on

Two new meroterpenes, ‘acetoxydehydroaustin B’ ( 1 ) and ‘1,2‐dihydro‐acetoxydehydroaustin B’ ( 2 ) were isolated in the form of a mixed crystal from the mangrove endophytic fungus Aspergillus sp. 085241B. Their structures and absolute configurations were determined by extensive analysis of their spectra and X‐ray diffraction data. Conidia of Aspergillus niger were immobilized in calcium alginate gel for the production of citric acid. First, the type of the preactivation medium,
together with the preactivation period, was investigated. It was found that A. niger requires a 2-d preactivation period at a 0.05 g/L NH4NO3 concentration. Second, preactivated cells were used to determine the effects of nitrogen concentration and the flow rate
of oxygen and air on the production of citric acid. Maximum citric acid production was attained with medium containing 0.01
g/L of NH4NO3. The rate of citric acid production in the nitrogenous medium was 33% higher when oxygen was used instead of air during the
production phase. This corresponds to an increase of 85% when compared to production when neither oxygen nor air was fed into
the system. In the nonnitrogenous medium citric acid concentration remained similar regardless of the use of air or oxygen.
However, in the nonnitrogenous production medium, citric acid production was not influenced considerably when oxygen was used
instead of air. The advantage of using immobilized cells is that production is achieved easily in the continuous system. Therefore,
citric acid production was also tested using a packed-bed bioreactor, and an increase in productivity by a factor of 22 was

A rapid, sensitive and specific high‐performance thin‐layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method was developed and validated for determination of gliotoxin in Aspergillus infected immunocompromised patients with invasive aspergillosis (IA). Densitometric analysis of gliotoxin was carried out in the absorbance mode at 254 nm after single‐step extraction with chloroform. The method uses TLC aluminum plates pre‐coated with silica gel 60F‐254 as a stationary phase and toluene–isoamyl alcohol–methanol (10:0.5:0.5, v/v/v) as mobile phase, which gives compact spot of gliotoxin (Rf = 0.51). The calibration curve was linear (r2 ≥ 0.994) between peak area and concentration in the tested range of 100–1000 ng spot?1 with minimum detectable range 0.025 ng μ?1 of serum sample. The mean ± SD value of slope and intercept of the standard chromatogram of gliotoxin were found to be 523.2 ± 1.555635 and 915.8 ± 30.68843, respectively. The developed method is simple, rapid, precise and less costly than earlier diagnostic methods, and different serum samples can be run on a single TLC plate for comparative analysis. Unlike polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) copolymers, the controlled and efficient synthesis of PHA terpolymers from triglycerides and fatty acids are yet to be established. This study demonstrates the production of P(3HB-co-3HV-co-3HHx) terpolymer with a wide range of 3HV monomer compositions from mixtures of crude palm kernel oil and 3HV precursors using a mutant Cupriavidus necator PHB−4 transformant harboring the PHA synthase gene (phaC) of a locally isolated Chromobacterium sp. USM2. The PHA synthase of Chromobacterium has an unusually high affinity towards 3HV monomer. P(3HB-co-3HV-co-3HHx) terpolymers with 3HV monomer composition ranging from 2 to 91 mol% were produced. Generation of 3HHx monomers was affected by the concentration and feeding time of 3HV precursor. P(3HB-co-24 mol% 3HV-co-7 mol% 3HHx) exhibited mechanical properties similar to that of common low-density polyethylene. P(3HB-co-3HV-co-3HHx) terpolymers with a wide range of 3HV molar fraction had been successfully synthesized by adding lower concentrations of 3HV precursors and using a PHA synthase with high affinity towards 3HV monomer. 相似文献

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB)] homopolymer and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-co-3HV)] copolymer was produced by Comamonas sp. EB172 using single and mixture of carbon sources. Poly(3-hydroxyvalerate) P(3HV) incorporation in the copolymer was obtained when propionic and valeric acid was used as precursors. Incorporation of 3HV fractions in the copolymer varied from 45 to 86 mol% when initial pH of the medium was regulated. In fed-batch cultivation, organic acids derived from anaerobically treated palm oil mill effluent (POME) were shown to be suitable carbon sources for polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production by Comamonas sp. EB172. Number average molecular weight (Mn) produced by the strain was in the range of 153-412 kDa with polydispersity index (Mw/Mn) in the range of 2.2-2.6, respectively. Incorporation of higher 3HV units improved the thermal stability of P(3HB-co-3HV) copolymer. Thus the newly isolated bacterium Comamonas sp. EB172 is a suitable candidate for PHA production using POME as renewable and alternative cheap raw materials. 相似文献
