One-Pot Synthesis of 3,5-Disubstituted 1,2,4-Oxadiazoles Directly from Nitrile and Hydroxylamine Hydrochloride Under Solvent-Free Conditions Using Potassium Fluoride as Catalyst and Solid Support

A one-pot synthesis of 3,5-disubstituted 1,2,4-oxadiazoles with two identical substituents directly from the reaction of nitriles and hydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of potassium fluoride as catalyst and solid support under solvent-free condition is described. Moreover, the formation of products has been discussed, and a plausible mechanism has been presented. Simplicity of the process, workup in aqueous media, and excellent yields are some advantages of this method.     

Catalytic Sandmeyer cyanation as a synthetic pathway to aryl nitriles

Aryl nitriles ArCN were obtained by the Cu(I)/Cu(II) catalysed reaction of aryl diazonium salts with KCN in good yields.     

Improving palladium-catalyzed cyanation of aryl halides: development of a state-of-the-art methodology using potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) as cyanating agent

Benzonitriles are easily accessible via palladium-catalyzed cyanation of aryl halides using potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) as cyanide source. This method is applicable on both activated and deactivated aryl and heteroaryl bromides and activated chlorides giving the corresponding benzonitriles in good to excellent yield. Advantageously, the used cyanating agent is non-toxic and cheap. The presented catalyst system is rather simple and it is not necessary to add expensive phosphines, making the novel method also attractive for industrial applications.     

Synthesis of aryl phosphines via phosphination with triphenylphosphine by supported palladium catalysts

The palladium catalyzed phosphination of functionalized aryl bromides, triflates, and chlorides with triphenylphosphine to yield aryldiphenylphosphines was catalyzed by thermally stable palladium catalysts supported on charcoal and aluminia. The addition of NaI promoted both the rates and yields in the phosphination with Pd/C.     

A novel class of amide-derived air-stable P,O-ligands for Suzuki cross-coupling at low catalyst loading

The benzamide-derived P,O-ligands efficiently promoted the Pd-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reactions of aryl bromides with phenylboronic acid at 0.01 mol % of Pd loading at 60-80 °C to form biaryls in excellent yields. A sterically hindered arylboronic acid gave a quantitative yield of the coupling product at 110 °C with 1 mol % Pd.     

Facile synthesis of symmetrical functionalized biaryls from aryl halides catalyzed by commercial zinc dust using ammonium formate

Reductive homocoupling of aryl halides in the presence of commercial zinc dust and ammonium formate in methanol produces biaryls in good to excellent yields. Aryl halides having either electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups underwent smooth coupling to afford the corresponding symmetrical biaryls. Addition of 1 equiv of sodium hydroxide enhanced the coupling reaction rate. Commercial zinc dust is inexpensive, widely available and can be used without any auxiliary catalysts such as Pd(0) and/or Ni(0).     

Palladium catalyzed ligand-free Suzuki cross-coupling reactions of benzylic halides with aryl boronic acids under mild conditions

A highly efficient Suzuki cross-coupling reaction between benzylic halides and aryl boronic acids using palladium chloride as catalyst in acetone:water (3:1) as the solvent system has been developed. High yields of products, mild reaction conditions and short reaction times in the absence of ligand are important features of this method.     

Toxic Congener-Specific Analysis of PCBs: Assessment of Toxicity in Equivalents of TCDD

Abstract

High resolution capillary gas chromatographic analysis of the polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) present in snapping turtle eggs, provided quantitative data on selected toxic congeners. The concentrations of these congeners have been converted into equivalent toxic concentrations of 2,3,7,8-tetrachloro-p-dibenzodioxin (TCDD). The toxic equivalent factors (TEFs), necessary to effect this transformation were derived from EC₅₀ values (half the concentration of the toxic congener required to produce the maximum effect) for aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) induction associated with the corresponding toxic PCB congener or isomer. Summation of the resulting toxic equivalents provided a composite assessment of the toxlcity of the PCB mixture in terms of an equivalent concentration of TCDD.
