Selective C−H Functionalization of Methane and Ethane by a Molecular SbV Complex

Owing to the strong nonpolar bonds involved, selective C?H functionalization of methane and ethane to esters remains a challenge for molecular homogeneous chemistry. We report that the computationally predicted main‐group p‐block Sb^V(TFA)₅ complex selectively functionalizes the C?H bonds of methane and ethane to the corresponding mono and/or diol trifluoroacetate esters at 110–180 °C with yields for ethane of up to 60 % with over 90 % selectivity. Experimental and computational studies support a unique mechanism that involves Sb^V‐mediated C?H activation followed by functionalization of a Sb^V‐alkyl intermediate.     

Air‐Stable,Lead‐Free Zero‐Dimensional Mixed Bismuth‐Antimony Perovskite Single Crystals with Ultra‐broadband Emission

Lead‐free zero‐dimensional (0D) organic‐inorganic metal halide perovskites have recently attracted increasing attention for their excellent photoluminescence properties and chemical stability. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of an air‐stable 0D mixed metal halide perovskite (C₈NH₁₂)₄Bi_0.57Sb_0.43Br₇?H₂O, in which individual [BiBr₆]^3? and [SbBr₆]^3? octahedral units are completely isolated and surrounded by the large organic cation C₈H₁₂N⁺. Upon photoexcitation, the bulk crystals exhibit ultra‐broadband emission ranging from 400 to 850 nm, which originates from both free excitons and self‐trapped excitons. This is the first example of 0D perovskites with broadband emission spanning the entire visible spectrum. In addition, (C₈NH₁₂)₄Bi_0.57Sb_0.43Br₇?H₂O exhibits excellent humidity and light stability. These findings present a new direction towards the design of environmentally‐friendly, high‐performance 0D perovskite light emitters.     

Hydrostibination

A rigid naphthalenediamine framework has been used to prepare antimony hydrides that feature LUMO shapes and energies similar to those found in secondary boranes. By exploiting this feature, we introduce the first examples of uncatalyzed hydrostibination reactions of robust C≡C, C=C, C=O, and N=N bonds as new elementary hydrometalation reactions analogous to hydroboration. These results endorse the notion of a diagonal relationship between the lightest p‐block element and the heaviest Group 15 elements and may lead to the conception of novel reaction chemistry.
