Molar heat capacities and volumes of transfer of cytosine,thymine, caffeine and 1,3-diethylthymine to aqueous solutions of glycyl-glycine and L-α-alanyl-L-α-alanine at 25°C

Densities and specific heat capacities of ternary aqueous systems containing dipeptides (glycyl-glycine or L--alanyl-L--alanine) and nucleic acid bases (cytosine or thymine) or their alkyl derivatives (1,3-diethylthymine or caffeine) were determined at 25°C by flow calorimetry and flow densimetry. The partial molar volumes and heat capacities of transfer at infinite dilution of the different nucleic acid bases from water to water+dipeptide solutions were obtained therefrom. Except for the case of the transfer of cytosine to aqueous glycyl-glycine solutions where a small positive dependence of the transfer quantities was observed with the dipeptide concentration, the values of the heat capacities of transfer were in general low, positive or negative, depending on the compensation of hydrophobic-hydrophilic interactions between the dipeptide and the base. The volumes of transfer of most of the bases are very small, within the limit of the experimental error.     

Effect of tetrahydrofuran on the conductance and ion-pairing of hydrogen chloride in wet and dry methanol mixtures

The molar conductance of dilute solutions of HCl in wet (68.5% methanol + 31.5% tetrahydrofurane mixtures at 25°C have been measured. The data were analyzed using the Fuoss-Hsia equation to calculate the infinite dilution molar conductances and association constants. The trend of the limiting conductances in these mixtures as a function of the water content shows, once more, the peculiar minimum due to the anomalous proton conductance mechanism. From these data the limiting molar conductance in the anhydrous binary solvent system was evaluated. The percentage excess proton mobility with respect to potassium ion has also been determined. All these data are compared to those found in a binary isodielectric methanol mixture containing as cosolvent 1,4-dioxane. This comparison shows that proton mobilities are very similar in both solvent mixtures. The dielectric constants, refractive indices, viscosities and densities of the methanol-tetrahydrofuran mixtures in the whole mole fraction range have been measured and are reported. An analysis of the excess molar volumes and viscosities shows a slight deviation of this system from ideality.     

Specific and non-specific interactions of hydropseudohalic acids with water and organic solvents

Partition coefficients P of the HNCS, HNCO and HN₃ hydropseudohalic acids between a number of organic solvents and water were determined. It has been found that log P increases with pKa of the acid and with the basicity of the solvent, but the effect of pKa on P is the smaller the more basic is the solvent. The relationships have been explained in terms of hydrogen bond formation between undissociated acid and solvent molecules. H-bonding between the pseudohalic acids and organic solvents has been confirmed by IR spectra on the example of HN₃ in benzene. Association constants for H-bonding between the three acids and water, benzene, dibutyl ether and tri-n-butyl phosphate were determined from partition data. It has been found that H-bonding increases with the strength of the acid, whereas the contribution to partition from non-specific interactions with water and organic solvents depends on the molecular surface area of the acid molecule.     

Development of xylose-fermenting yeasts for ethanol production at high acetic acid concentrations

Mutants resistant to comparatively high levels of acetic acid were isolated from the xylose-fermenting yeastsCandida shehatae andPichia stipitis by adapting these cultures to increasing concentrations of acetic acid grown in shake-flask cultures. These mutants were tested for their ability to ferment xylose in presence of high acetic acid concentrations, in acid hydrolysates of wood, and in hardwood spent sulfite liquor, and compared with their wild-type counterparts and between themselves. TheP. stipitis mutant exhibited faster fermentation times, better tolerance to acid hydrolysates, and tolerance to lower pH.     

Reactions of fluorinated acid anhydrides, (CF3CO)2O, (CF3SO2)2O and (FSO2)2O, with organometallic substrates of group 15 (As, Sb and Bi)

(C₆H₅)₃MX₂ (M = As, Sb; X = OCOCF₃ and M = Sb, Bi; X = SO₃F, SO₃CF₃) compounds prepared by the interaction of triphenylmetal(V) substrates with (CF₃CO)₂O, (CF₃SO₂)₂O and (FSO₂)₂O have been characterized by molecular weight determination, elemental and spectroscopic (IR, ¹H and ¹⁹F NMR, mass) analyses.     

Separation and determination of 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid in royal jelly by capillary electrophoresis

Summary The application of capillary electrophoresis (CE) to the separation and determination of the active ingredient, 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid, in royal jelly with direct on-column UV detection at 214 nm is described. Using a cathodic injection and anodic detection scheme, 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA) was separated and detected in less than 10 min in a fused silica capillary column with a phosphate buffer at pH 7.3 with an applied voltage of 20 KV followed by direct UV detection. The use of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as electroosmotic flow modifier allows the rapid separation of 10-HDA from other constituents in royal jelly by reversing the direction of electroosmotic flow. The influence of organic solvents in the electrolyte on separation selectivity is also discussed.     

Ab initio SCF investigation of the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in δ-aminopentanoic acid

The potential energy surface of the neutral form of-aminopentanoic acid was investigated by means of ab initio 4-31G SCF calculations. Four symmetry unique local minima are stabilized by an intramolecular O-H NH₂ hydrogen bond. The geometries, energies, and wave numbers of these conformers are reported. The hydrogen bond is discussed with respect to all reactions of these conformers and in comparison with the homologues glycine,-alanine, and-aminobutyric acid and also with the bimolecular adducts between formic acid, acetic acid, and propionic acid, on the one hand, and ammonia, methylamine, and ethylamine, on the other hand.     

马齿苋及其籽中脂肪酸的比较研究

本实验利用ＧＣ－ＭＳ分析技术对马齿苋全草及其籽中的脂肪酸（以甲酯的形式）进行了分析，共鉴定出８种脂肪酸。全草中以亚麻酸（４７．１６％）、亚油酸（２２．００％）及棕榈酸（１７．４％）为主，籽中以亚油酸（４５．８６％）及亚麻酸（３０．６１％）为主。
