Recently, a continuous method has been proposed by Golub and Liao as an alternative way to solve the minimum and interior eigenvalue problems. According to their numerical results, their method seems promising. This article is an extension along this line. In this article, firstly, we convert an eigenvalue problem to an equivalent constrained optimization problem. Secondly, using the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions of this equivalent optimization problem, we obtain a variant of the Rayleigh quotient gradient flow, which is formulated by a system of differential-algebraic equations. Thirdly, based on the Rayleigh quotient gradient flow, we give a practical numerical method for the minimum and interior eigenvalue problems. Finally, we also give some numerical experiments of our method, the Golub and Liao method, and EIGS (a Matlab implementation for computing eigenvalues using restarted Arnoldi’s method) for some typical eigenvalue problems. Our numerical experiments indicate that our method seems promising for most test problems. 相似文献

We axiomatically develop a potential analysis for a general class of hypoelliptic diffusion equations under the following basic assumptions: doubling condition and segment property for an underlying distance and Gaussian bounds of the fundamental solution. Our analysis is principally aimed to obtain regularity criteria and uniform boundary estimates for the Perron-Wiener solution to the Dirichlet problem. We describe how to maintain the triangular factor of a sparse QR factorization when columns are added and deleted and Q cannot be stored for sparsity reasons. The updating procedures could be thought of as a sparse counterpart of Reichel and Gragg’s package QRUP. They allow us to solve a sequence of sparse linear least squares subproblems in which each matrix Bk is an independent subset of the columns of a fixed matrix A, and Bk+1 is obtained by adding or deleting one column. Like Coleman and Hulbert [T. Coleman, L. Hulbert, A direct active set algorithm for large sparse quadratic programs with simple bounds, Math. Program. 45 (1989) 373-406], we adapt the sparse direct methodology of Björck and Oreborn of the late 1980s, but without forming ATA, which may be only positive semidefinite. Our Matlab 5 implementation works with a suitable row and column numbering within a static triangular sparsity pattern that is computed in advance by symbolic factorization of ATA and preserved with placeholders. 相似文献

Stability of passing from Gaussian quadrature data to the Lanczos recurrence coefficients is considered. Special attention is paid to estimates explicitly expressed in terms of quadrature data and not having weights in denominators. It has been shown that the recent approach, exploiting integral representation of Hankel determinants, implies quantitative improvement of D. Laurie’s constructive estimate.It has also been demonstrated that a particular implementation on the Hankel determinant approach gives an estimate being unimprovable up to a coefficient; the corresponding example involves quadrature data with a small but not too small weight. In this paper, (d+1)-pencil lattices on simplicial partitions in Rd are studied. The barycentric approach naturally extends the lattice from a simplex to a simplicial partition, providing a continuous piecewise polynomial interpolant over the extended lattice. The number of degrees of freedom is equal to the number of vertices of the simplicial partition. The Ostrovsky equation describes gravity waves under the influence of Coriolis force. It is known that solutions of this equation conserve the L2 norm and an energy function that is determined non-locally. In this paper we propose four conservative numerical schemes for this equation: a finite difference scheme and a pseudospectral scheme that conserve the norm, and the same types of schemes that conserve the energy. A numerical comparison of these schemes is also provided, which indicates that the energy conservative schemes perform better than the norm conservative schemes. 相似文献
