Synthesis of poly(ethylene oxide) with pending 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl groups and its further initiation of the grafting polymerization of styrene

A new stratagem for the synthesis of amphiphilic graft copolymers of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) as the main chain and hydrophobic polystyrene as the side chains is suggested. A poly(ethylene oxide) with pending 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyls [poly(4‐glycidyloxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl‐co‐ethylene oxide)] was first prepared by the anionic ring‐opening copolymerization of ethylene oxide and 4‐glycidyloxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl, and then the graft copolymerization of styrene was completed with benzoyl peroxide as the initiator in the presence of poly(4‐glycidyloxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl‐co‐ethylene oxide). The polymerization of styrene was under control, and comblike, amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)‐g‐polystyrene was obtained. The copolymer and its intermediates were characterized with size exclusion chromatography, ¹H NMR, and electron spin resonance in detail. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis of a biotinated amphiphile

The synthesis of a biotinated amphiphile assembled from d-(+)-biotin, ethylene diamine as spacer, galactaric acid and 1-dodecylamine was achieved in six steps. The key step was the synthesis of a bisacetonide protected galactaric ester, the structure of which was determined by X-ray analysis. Aminolysis, spacer attachment, coupling with biotin and deprotection led to the amphiphilic galactaramide.     

A novel synthetic route to substituted pyranoanthocyanins with unique colour properties

Anthocyanins, isolated from natural sources by countercurrent chromatography, were reacted with cinnamic acids bearing at least one electron-donating substituent at the para-position. The resulting pyranoanthocyanins obtained by this simple one-step reaction were much less susceptible to pH shifts and retained their original colour over a wide pH-range. Through reaction with p-dimethylamino cinnamic acid, synthetic malvidin- and cyanidin-based anthocyanins with a unique violet hue were prepared.     

Nitropyrazoles

The double Vilsmeier formylation of theC-methyl group in pyrazole derivatives has been shown to occur when a nitro-group is in the adjacent position of the ring. Chelate mit Diimin- und Thiol-Struktur: Analytische Anwendung der Di-(4-substituierten)-thiosemicarbazone von 1,2- und 1,3-Diketonen

Zusammenfassung In der Gruppe der vierzähnigen Liganden mit Diimin- und Thiolstruktur bilden die Bisthiosemicarbazone von 1,2- und 1,3-Diketonen mit 4-substituierten Thiosemicarbaziden intensiv gefärbte Metallchelate, die für extraktionsphotometrische Bestimmungen in der Spurenanalyse verwendet werden können. Die molaren Extinktionskoeffizienten liegen im Bereich 5000–16000. Die leichte Zugänglichkeit von 4-substituierten Thiosemicarbaziden über die Reaktion von Isothiocyanaten mit Hydrazin bietet eine große Auswahl von Reagentien, besonders für die Flüssig-Chromatographie zur Trennung von komplexen Chelatgemischen.Die Arbeit wurde aus den Mitteln der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft Bonn-Bad Godesberg gefördert.     

Synthesis and polymerization of N-[N′-(α-methylbenzyl)aminocarbonyl-n-alkyl]maleimide

Two types of optically active N-[N′-(α-methylbenzyl)amino/carbonyl-n-alkyl]maleimides (MBAC) were synthesized from maleic anhydride, 6-amino-n-caproic acid (or 12-amino-n-dodecanoic acid), and (R)-(+)-α-methylbenzylamine. Radical homopolymerizations of MBAC were performed in several solvents at 60 and 110°C for 24 h to give optically active polymers. Radical copolymerizations of MBAC were performed with styrene (ST) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) in dioxane at 60°C. The monomer reactivity ratios and the Alfrey-Price Q-e values were determined. Chiroptical properties of the polymers and copolymers were investigated. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Preparation of Y2Ba4Cu7O15-δ Superconductor without High Oxygen Pressure

The synthesis of bulk Y₂Ba₄Cu₇O_15-δ superconductor at atmospheric oxygen pressure via solid state sintering is reported. Temperature ranging from 860 to 890 °C as well as time interval over 2 to 15 days were used to investigate the formation of the Y₂Ba₄Cu₇O_15-δ phase. A time-temperature profile characterizing the conditions for the preparation of Y₂Ba₄Cu₇O_15-δ phase suggests the optimal condition to be sintering at 890 °C for over 10 days. Detailed results of X-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity, iodometric titration and magnetization measurements are described.     

Purine Nucleoside Analogs. 12. Synthesis of Novel 8,9-Disubstituted Guanine Derivatives by S-Alkylation of 2-Acetamido-9-(2-acetoxyethoxymethyl)-6-oxo-8-thioxopurine

S-Alkylation of 2-acetamido-9-(2-acetoxyethoxymethyl)-6-oxo-8-thioxopurine was used to synthesize its novel S- and N₍₇₎-substituted derivatives. We have established the effect of the structure of the alkylating agent on the reaction conditions and its regioselectivity. We have shown that the synthesized guanine derivatives can be modified further.     

Degradation of ²-O-4 lignin model and related compounds by the ascomyceteChrysonilia sitophila (TFB 27441 strain)

Growth of the ascomyceteChrysonilia sitophila during degradation of lignin model dimers and monomers was compared to a glucose control. An inhibition of growth by Cα-carbonyl monomers and stimulation by β-O-4 lignin model and vanillyl alcohol were observed. A comparison of the degradation by this ascomycete with the basidiomycetePhanerochaete chrysosoporium showed similarities in relation to the type of degradation caused.
