Fast and efficient preparation of Baylis-Hillman-derived (E)-allylic azides and related compounds in aqueous medium

A practical access to alkyl- and aryl-substituted (E)-2-(azidomethyl)alkenoates and related azido compounds from the corresponding allylic bromides in aqueous acetone is described. An alternative method to obtain the starting bromides based on heterogeneous catalysis under mild conditions was also investigated.     

Stereoselective total synthesis of (±)-α-vetispirene, (±)-hinesol, and (±)-β-vetivone based on a Claisen rearrangement

The stereoselective total syntheses of (±)-α-vetispirene, (±)-hinesol, and (±)-β-vetivone were accomplished based on a Claisen rearrangement in an alkenyl bicyclic dihydropyran system. The most striking feature of this approach is that the Claisen rearrangement of bicyclic dihydropyran proceeds stereoselectively to provide a multi-functionalized spiro[4.5]decane, which is an efficient precursor for the synthesis of the vetivane sesquiterpenes.     

Enantiodiscrimination of racemic electrophiles by diketopiperazine enolates: asymmetric synthesis of methyl 2-amino-3-aryl-butanoates and 3-methyl-aspartates

Enolates of (S)-N,N′-bis-(p-methoxybenzyl)-3-iso-propylpiperazine-2,5-dione exhibit high levels of enantiodiscrimination in alkylations with (RS)-1-aryl-1-bromoethanes and (RS)-2-bromoesters, affording substituted diketopiperazines containing two new stereogenic centres in high de. Deprotection and hydrolysis of the resultant substituted diketopiperazines provides a route to the asymmetric synthesis of homochiral methyl 2-amino-3-aryl-butanoates and 3-methyl-aspartates in high de and ee.     

A Novel Biomass Supported Na2CO3 System for Flue Gas Desulfurization

The breakthrough and stoichiometric SO2 adsorption efficiencies of a biomass supported Na2CO3 system (80 wt %Na2CO3/straw) have reached 48.9% and 80.6% respectively at a desulfurization temperature of 80℃.

Monte Carlo study of interfacial silicon suboxide layers and oxidation kinetics

A simple simulation scheme that simultaneously describes the growth kinetics of SiO₂ films at the nanometer scale and the SiO_x/Si interface dynamics (its extent, and spatial/temporal evolution) is presented. The simulation successfully applies to experimental data in the region above and below 10 nm, reproduces the Deal and Grove linear-parabolic law and the oxide growth rate enhancement in the very thin film regime (the so-called anomalous region). According to the simulation, the oxidation is governed mainly by two processes: (a) the formation of a transition suboxide layer and (b) its subsequent drift towards the silicon bulk. We found that it is the superposition of these two processes that produces the crossover from the anomalous oxidation region behavior to the linear-parabolic law.     

Luminescent properties of Ce in MSO4 (M: Ca, Sr and Ba) and the effect of Na co-doping

The optical properties of Ce³⁺ in CaSO₄, SrSO₄ and BaSO₄ are reported. The Ce³⁺ ion shows 4f⁰5d¹→²F_5/2,²F_7/2 luminescence in all three sulphates. Co-doping with Na⁺ does not change the local surrounding of the Ce³⁺ ion, but enhances the amount of Ce³⁺ ions built in. Under optical excitation, besides the typical Ce³⁺ doublet emission in the ultraviolet spectral region, band emission around 445 nm was observed. This band emission was not assigned to emission from a Ce³⁺ centre, but to emission from an impurity-trapped exciton. Under X-ray excitation, both Ce³⁺ emission and an emission band around 380 nm was observed. This band was assigned to emission from a self-trapped exciton.

采用固相法在较低温度下合成了Eu²⁺激活的Ca₂SiO₃Cl₂高亮度蓝白色发光材料,并对其发光性质进行了研究。其发射光谱由两个谱带组成,峰值分别位于420,498nm处,归结为Ca₂SiO₃Cl₂晶体中占据两种不同Ca²⁺格位的Eu²⁺离子的5d→4f跃迁发射。改变Eu²⁺浓度,可以使样品的发光在蓝白色和绿白色之间变化。当Eu²⁺浓度为0.005mol^-1时,样品呈现很亮的蓝白色发光。两个发射峰的激发光谱均分布在250~410nm的波长范围内,峰值分别位于333,369nm处。Ca₂SiO₃Cl₂:Eu²⁺可被InGaN管芯产生的近紫外辐射有效激发,是一种性能良好的白光LED用单一基质蓝白色荧光粉。     

非傍轴平顶高斯光束M2因子两种定义的比较研究

基于功率密度的二阶矩方法,推导出了非傍轴平顶高斯(FG)光束束宽和远场发散角的解析表达式·研究表明,当w0/λ→0时,远场发散角趋于渐近值θmax=63.435°,与阶数无关·使用非傍轴高斯光束代替傍轴高斯光束作为理想光束,研究了非傍轴FG光束的M2因子,并与传统定义的M2因子作了比较·在非傍轴范畴,非傍轴FG光束的M2因子不仅与阶数N有关,而且与w0/λ有关·按照定义,当w0/λ→0时,非傍轴FG光束的M2因子不等于0,对阶数N=1,2,3时,M2因子分别趋于0.913,0.882和0.886·当N→∞时,M2因子取最小值M2min=0.816·     

The influence of pulse duration on the stress levels in ablation of ceramics: A finite element study

We present a finite element model to investigate the dynamic thermal and mechanical response of ceramic materials to pulsed infrared radiation. The model was applied to the specific problem of determining the influence of the pulse duration on the stress levels reached in human dental enamel irradiated by a CO₂ laser at 10.6 μm with pulse durations between 0.1 and 100 μs and sub-ablative fluence. Our results indicate that short pulses with durations much larger than the characteristic acoustic relaxation time of the material can still cause high stress transients at the irradiated site, and indicate that pulse durations of the order of 10 μs may be more adequate both for enamel surface modification and for ablation than pulse durations up to 1 μs. The model presented here can easily be modified to investigate the dynamic response of ceramic materials to mid-infrared radiation and help determine optimal pulse durations for specific procedures.
