On universal spaces and absorbing sets related to a transfinite extension of covering dimension

R. Pol has shown that for every countable ordinal number α there exists a universal space for separable metrizable spaces X with trindX?α. W. Olszewski has shown that for every countable limit ordinal number λ there is no universal space for separable metrizable space with trIndX?λ. T. Radul and M. Zarichnyi have proved that for every countable limit ordinal number there is no universal space for separable metrizable spaces with dimWX?α where dimW is a transfinite extension of covering dimension introduced by P. Borst. We prove the same result for another transfinite extension dimC of the covering dimension.As an application, we show that there is no absorbing sets (in the sense of Bestvina and Mogilski) for the classes of spaces X with dimCX?α belonging to some absolute Borel class.     

Symmetries and generalizedW∞ algebra of the modified KP equation

The infinitely many symmetries with arbitrary functions of timet for the potential modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvilli equation are obtained by using a simple direct method. These symmetries constitute a generalization of the well-knownW _{1756j701q7/xxlarge8734.gif" alt="infin" align="MIDDLE" BORDER="0">} algebra.     

Skew-symmetric derivations of a complex Lie algebra

Let be a complex Lie algebra, its underlying real Lie algebra, a real form of and ·, · the euclidean product induced by the real part of an hermitian inner product on . Let aut be the Lie algebra of skew-symmetric derivations of . We give necessary and sufficient conditions to ensure that aut is composed of skew-hermitian derivations. As an application, we study holomorphy in large subgroups of isometries of Lie groups.     

On the Durrmeyer-type modification of some discrete approximation operators

In [10], for continuous functionsf from the domain of certain discrete operatorsL _n the inequalities are proved concerning the modulus of continuity ofL _nf. Here we present analogues of the results obtained for the Durrmeyer-type modification $\tilde L_n $ ofL _n. Moreover, we give the estimates of the rate of convergence of $\tilde L_n f$ in Hölder-type norms     

The Lie algebra of the sl(2, ℂ)-valued automorphic functions on a torus

It is shown that the Lie algebra of the automorphic, meromorphic sl(2, 177h/xxlarge8450.gif" alt="Copf" align="BASELINE" BORDER="0">)-valued functions on a torus is a geometric realization of a certain infinite-dimensional finitely generated Lie algebra. In the trigonometric limit, when the modular parameter of the torus goes to zero, the former Lie algebra goes over into the sl(2, 177h/xxlarge8450.gif" alt="Copf" align="BASELINE" BORDER="0">)-valued loop algebra, while the latter goes into the Lie algebra (A ₁ ⁽¹⁾ )177h/xxlarge8242.gif" alt="prime" align="BASELINE" BORDER="0">/(centre).     

Fluctuations of shapes of large areas under paths of random walks

Summary We discuss statistical properties of random walks conditioned by fixing a large area under their paths. We prove the functional central limit theorem (invariance principle) for these conditional distributions. The limiting Gaussian measure coincides with the conditional probability distribution of certain timenonhomogeneous Gaussian random process obtained by an integral transformation of the white noise. From the point of view of statistical mechanics the studied problem is the problem of describing the fluctuations of the phase boundary in the one-dimensional SOS-model.     

On an alternative supermatrix reduction

We consider a nonstandard odd reduction of supermatrices (as compared with the standard even reduction) which arises in connection with the possible extension of manifold structure group reductions. The study was initiated by consideration of generalized noninvertible superconformal-like transformations. The features of even- and odd-reduced supermatrices are investigated together. They can be unified into some kind of sandwich17.gif" alt="rsquo" align="BASELINE" BORDER="0"> semigroups. We also define a special module over even- and odd-reduced supermatrix sets, and the generalized Cayley-Hamilton theorem is proved for them. It is shown that the odd-reduced supermatrices represent semigroup bands and Rees matrix semigroups over a unit group.Alexander von Humboldt Fellow.
