We survey results concerning the representations of lattices as lattices of congruences and as lattices of equational theories. Recent results and open problems will be mentioned.To László Fuchs on the occasion of his 70th birthday     

On the geometries of the rational unfoldings of X k

With a view to applications to self-regulating dynamical processes in biology, we determine the geometric structure of what we call isotangent curves, i.e. curves parametrized by the slopes of their points. They come up naturally as bifurcation curves of rational unfoldings of X ^k, and we classify them according to degree and number of cusps. They, as well as their isotangent involute curves, turn up in simulations of these processes.     

Disordered charge distributions and dielectric loss in extra dense flint glasses

The complex permittivities of some extra dense flint glasses (EDF glasses) have been studied. The dielectric features of the samples are dominated by their PbO content. Both refractive indices and dielectric losses exhibit a close relation to the concentration of Pb ions. The latter are located either at sites of the network atoms or filling the potential minima interstitially. They can be identified by their different relaxation mechanisms. The dispersion in the submillimeter wave and FIR area is characterized by a very broad distribution of comparably sharp resonant states. Thermal lens — or hysteresis effects can be excluded.     

A remark on partial linear spaces of girth 5 with an application to strongly regular graphs

We derive a lower bound on the number of points of a partial linear space of girth 5. As an application, certain strongly regular graphs with=2 are ruled out by observing that the first subconstituents are partial linear spaces.     

含嘧啶环的双冠醚(Ⅳ)

前文已报道由啶环桥联两个苯并冠醚的双冠醚的合成与性质。由于嘧啶环的刚性较大,能把两个冠醚单元固定在有效地协同作用位置,因此以它们作中性载体的离子选择性电极具有较好的选择性。为了进一步研究这类双冠醚的性质,我们合成了四种嘧啶环桥联两个脂肪族冠醚的双冠醚,并经元素分析、IR、′HNMR鉴定。     

Influences of local polymer-solvent π-π-interaction on dynamics of phenyl ring rotation and its role on photophysics of conjugated polymer

In this report, the role of local polymer-solvent π-π-interaction on rotational dynamics of phenyl rings of poly[2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) is examined by utilizing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. We have found that an aromatic solvent can couple strongly with the phenyl rings via favorable local π-π-interaction, causing a restriction of the ring rotation. The dynamic process takes place at much faster rate in a non-aromatic solvent. NMR line shape analysis indicates the existence of two side chain configurations with relatively long life-time in toluene and pyridine while a single time-averaged configuration is detected in chloroform and tetrahydrofuran. Addition of chloroform or cyclohexane to a solution of MEH-PPV in toluene is accompanied by an increase of the rotational dynamics. This indicates that the expansion or collapse of main chain upon varying solvent quality play a minor role on the rotational dynamics. The relationship between the dynamics of ring rotation and photophysics of MEH-PPV in solution is discussed.     

Elliptic semiplanes and group divisible designs with orthogonal resolutions

In this paper we prove that there exists an elliptic semiplaneS(v, k, m) withk –m 2 if and only if there exists a group divisible design GDD _k ((k –m)(k – 1);k –m; 0, 1) withm pairwise orthogonal resolutions. As an example of this theorem, we construct an elliptic semiplaneW(45, 7, 3) and show thatW is isomorphic to the elliptic semiplaneS(45, 7, 3) given by R. D. Baker.

Synthesis of first nonannulated 1,2,3,4-tetrazine 1,3-dioxides

Thermolysis of o-diazidobenzotetrazine 1,3-dioxides was accompanied by cleavage of the C-C bond of the benzene ring to give nonannulated 1,2,3,4-tetrazine 1,3-dioxides. The structures of these first representatives of nonfused 1,2,3,4-tetrazines were confirmed by ¹³C and ¹⁴N NMR spectroscopy. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Total synthesis of dapiramicin B

The first total synthesis of dapiramicin B, a nucleoside antibiotic, is described. The characteristic N-glycoside linkage in dapiramicin B was effectively constructed by way of the Pd-catalyzed coupling reaction of a heptopyranosylamine with a bromopyrrolopyrimidine derivative.
