The homotopy categorical crossed module of a CW-complex

Crossed modules have longstanding uses in homotopy theory and the cohomology of groups. The corresponding notion in the setting of categorical groups, that is, categorical crosses modules, allowed the development of a low-dimensional categorical group cohomology. Now, its relevance is also shown here to homotopy types by associating, to any pointed CW-complex (X,∗), a categorical crossed module that algebraically represents the homotopy 3-type of X.     

The 1-type of a Waldhausen K-theory spectrum

We give a small functorial algebraic model for the 2-stage Postnikov section of the K-theory spectrum of a Waldhausen category and use our presentation to describe the multiplicative structure with respect to biexact functors.     

Linear dependence of stationary distributions in ergodic Markov decision processes

In ergodic MDPs we consider stationary distributions of policies that coincide in all but n states, in which one of two possible actions is chosen. We give conditions and formulas for linear dependence of the stationary distributions of n+2 such policies, and show some results about combinations and mixtures of policies.     

Random orderings of the integers and card shuffling

In this paper we study random orderings of the integers with a certain invariance property. We describe all such orders in a simple way. We define and represent random shuffles of a countable set of labels and then give an interpretation of these orders in terms of a class of generalized riffle shuffles.     

Steady state analysis of an M/G/1 queue with two phase service and Bernoulli vacation schedule under multiple vacation policy

This paper examines the steady state behaviour of a batch arrival queue with two phases of heterogeneous service along and Bernoulli schedule vacation under multiple vacation policy, where after two successive phases service or first vacation the server may go for further vacations until it finds a new batch of customer in the system. We carry out an extensive stationary analysis of the system, including existence of stationary regime, queue size distribution of idle period process, embedded Markov chain steady state distribution of stationary queue size, busy period distribution along with some system characteristics.     

On the Log-Laplace Equation for Nonlocal Operators Generating Sub-Markovian Semigroups

We consider the semilinear Cauchy problem for a class of pseudo-differential operators generating sub-Markovian semigroups. Solutions of such problems with negative definite nonlinearity play an important role in constructing branching measure-valued processes. We establish local existence and uniqueness of solutions in the context of the Dirichlet space associated to the problem. Comparison and global properties of solutions are also studied. A family of centered forms for a polynomial

The general centered form for multi-variate polynomials is investigated and a computing procedure is proposed that results in a certain superset. Based on this procedure the optimal centered forms for monomials and for some special cases of polynomials are investigated.     

SO q (n+1,n−1) as a real form of SO q (2n,ℂ)

Quantum pseudo-orthogonal groups SO _q (n+1,n–1) are defined as real forms of quantum orthogonal groups SO _q (n+1,n–1) by means of a suitable antilinear involution. In particular, the casen=2 gives a quantized Lorentz group.     

Sur la R-équivalence de torseurs sous un groupe fini

We give criteria for R-equivalence of torsors under finite constant group schemes over a field. In particular, using bitorsors, we obtain a Galois dévissage result which formalises and generalises a theorem of Philippe Gille in the case of local fields; for instance, Gille's theorem is shown to extend to higher local fields.
