Stereoselective Synthesis of Tricyclo[6.2.2.02,7]dodecane-3,6,9,10-tetrol via Selective Reduction of α,β-Unsaturated 1,4-DIKetone

Stereoselective synthesis of tricyclo[6.2.2.0^2,7]dodecane-3,6,9,10-tetrol was developed starting from p-benzoquinone. The endo selective Diels–Alder cycloaddition of p-benzoquinone and 1,3-cyclohexadiene afforded the corresponding bicyclic diketone. The synthesis of the title compound was based on the cycloadduct by selective reduction with NaBH₄, acetylation with AcCl, and hydroxylation with OsO₄-NMO.

Recyclable Siloxy Serine Organocatalyst for the Direct Asymmetric Mannich Reactions in Ionic Liquids

A recyclable siloxy-L-serine organocatalyst has been developed to catalyze the asymmetric direct three-component Mannich reactions in ionic liquid hmim[PF₆], furnishing the β-amino carbonyl scaffold in high enantio- and diastereoselectivities. The direct Mannich reaction between a selection of aromatic aldehydes and ketones resulted in good yields and high enantioselectivities.

Very sensitive differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetric determination of 4-nitrophenol at poly (diphenylamine)/multi-walled carbon nanotube-β-cyclodextrin-modified glassy carbon electrode

In this work, a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with poly (diphenylamine)/multi-walled carbon nanotubes-β-cyclodextrin (PDPA/MWCNT-β-CD) film was constructed and used for the determination of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). Diphenylamine was successfully electropolymerised onto MWCNT-β-CD-modified GCE by cyclic voltammetry in monomer solution and 5 mol L^?1 H₂SO₄. The surface morphology of PDPA/MWCNT-β-CD film was characterised using scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. After adsorption of 4-NP on PDPA/MWCNT-β-CD at 0.2 V for 150 s, it showed a well-defined reduction peak in phosphate buffer solution at pH = 7. The PDPA/MWCNT-β-CD film enhanced the reduction peak current due to the complex formation between β-CD and 4-NP, presence of conductive polymer film as electron transfer mediator and also ability of MWCNTs for strong adsorptive and catalytic effect. Peak current increased linearly with 4-NP concentration in the range of 0.1 to 13.9 µg L^?1. The detection limit was obtained as 0.02 µg L^?1, which is better than other reported detection limits for the determination of 4-NP. The results showed that modified electrode has good sensitivity and selectivity. This sensor was used for the determination of 4-NP in water samples.     

Intramolecular aglycon delivery for (1 → 2)-β-mannosylation: towards the synthesis of phospholipomannan of Candida albicans

A high yielding method for 1,2-cis-β-D-mannosylation by intra-molecular aglycon delivery (IAD) through p-methoxy benzyl ether/acetal exchange and phenylsulfoxide donor is reported, along with its application in iterative assembly of antigenic (1 → 2)-β-pentamannoside domain of phospholipomannan (PLM) of fungal pathogen Candida albicans.     

Pd-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition of arylboronic acids to 2-nitroacrylates: a facile route to β-homophenylglycines

Asymmetric conjugate addition of arylboronic acids to 2-nitroacrylamide in the presence of cationic palladium–Chiraphos complex proceeds with high yield and enantioselectivity (73–89% ee) using as low as 0.05–0.25 mol % of the catalyst. The adducts can be smoothly transformed into the corresponding β²-homophenylglycines in two simple steps.     

Versatile synthesis of 4-spiro-β-lactam-3-carbonitriles via the intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization of N-(p-hydroxyphenyl)cyanoacetamides

A series of 4-spiro-cyclohexadienonyl-β-lactam-3-carbonitriles, 2,7-dioxo-1-azaspiro[3.5]nona-5,8-diene-3-carbonitriles, was synthesized in satisfactory to excellent yields via the intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization of N-(p-hydroxyphenyl)cyanoacetamides with iodobenzene diacetate (IBD) as oxidant and potassium hydroxide as base. Acetic 4-spiro-cyclohexadienonyl-β-lactam-3-carbimidic anhydrides were obtained when organic base triethylamine was applied instead of potassium hydroxide. The mechanisms of the intramolecular nucleophilic cyclization and formation of acetic β-lactam-3-carbimidic anhydrides were proposed. The cyclization is a sequence of nucleophilic ipso addition and oxidative dearomatization. The formation of acetic carbimidic anhydrides is an acid-catalyzed acetate addition to the nitriles.     

Catalyzation of 1,4-additions of arylboronic acids to α,β-unsaturated substrates using nickel(I) complexes

Nickel(I) complexes were generated in situ from Ni (PPh₃)₂Cl₂ using activated iron and the complexes combined with N,N′-bis(4-fluorobenzylidene) ethane-1,2-diamine (BFBED) were then used as a catalyst for the 1,4-addition reaction of arylboronic acids to α,β-unsaturated substrates. The reaction proceeded to completion and did not require the addition of a base but the addition of potassium iodide is crucial to this cross-coupling reaction. Moreover, experimental observations suggested a possible Ni(I)–Ni(III) catalytic cycle mechanism.
