Total backscattering and energy reflection of light ions from solids in the single-collision approximation

Previous calculations by Vukani and Sigmund on ion reflections in the singlecollision approximation have been extended to not small ion/target mass ratios. Analytical expressions with approximations are found for particle and energy reflection coefficients. The effect of not small mass ratio is more pronounced in the energy reflection than in particle reflection.Comparison with experimental data and results of computer simulations is made. The agreement between all data is satisfactorily, also for the cases with a pronounced finite target mass effect.     

~(14)N ENDOR Study on Bis(2-Hydroxylphenyl Ketoxime)-~(63)Cu(Ⅱ) Complex

The ENDOR spectrum of ~(14)N-~(63)Cu-HAP complex in DMSO/EtOH (5:1) freezing solution at 20 K has been studied using orientational selective method in this paper. The anisotropic superhyperfine coupling tensor and qusdrupole coupling tensor of ligand ~(14)N nucleus, and the superhyperfine coupling tensor of various ~1H nuclei have been measured precisely. Comparing the superhyperfine coupling tensor of ~(14)N-nucleus with previous work shows that the analytical method of spectrum is reasonable and the data are reliable in our previous work.     

Synthesis and reactivity of thieno[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]pyridine-2,3-diamines

It has been established that the interaction of N¹-(2-hydroxyphenylmethylthieno[2,3-b]pyrid-3-yl)arylamides with hydrazine hydrate leads to thieno[2,3-b]pyridine-2,3-diamines. Observations on the swelling characteristics of the zwitterionic hydrogel of poly(1-3-sulfopropyl)-2-vinyl-pyridinium-betaine hydrogel

Samples of poly[1-(3-sulfopropyl)-2-vinyl-pyridinium-betaine] (PSPV) have been synthesized to high conversion by free radical polymerization in aqueous solution of the zwitterionic monomer SPV with several concentrations of the crosslinker N,N′-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA). The densities of the resultant xerogels increased regularly with the content of MBA. Hydrogels obtained by swelling them in water and aqueous KSCN solution were examined by gravimetric and dimensional analysis. The water contents increased with decreasing content of MBA, the value of 92.7 wt% at the lowest MBA content being higher than that for other zwitterionic hydrogels. Enhanced swelling occurred in 1 M aq. KSCN at each MBA content, the total swelling being 98.1 wt% at the lowest crosslinker content. Swelling increased with increasing temperature. An approximate procedure to formulating swelling equilibrium in term of the volume fraction of water in hydrogel, in conjunction with the van’t Hoff equation, yields a small positive value for the enthalpy of swelling. This is compared with values derived similarly for other hydrogels.     

Chemical studies on the anobiidae: Sex pheromone of the drugstore beetle, stegobium paniceum (L.) (coleoptera)

Chemical an spectroscopic evidence is presented to show that 2,3-dihydro-2,3,5-trimethyl-6-(1-methyl-2-oxobutyl)-4H-pyran-4-one (10) is the sex pheromone produced by the female drugstore beetle, Stegobium paniceum L.     

Die mehrstellenformeln für den Laplaceoperator

Summary Difference methods for the numerical solution of linear partial differential equations may often be improved by using a weighted right hand side instead of the original right hand side of the differential equation. Difference formulas, for which that is possible, are called Mehrstellenformeln or Hermitian formulas. In this paper the Hermitian formulas for the approximation of Laplace's operator are characterized by a very simple condition. We prove, that in two-dimensional case for a Hermitian formula of ordern at leastn+3 discretization points are necessary. We give examples of such optimal formulas of arbitrary high-order.

     

Effect of conformational control of chiral oxazaborolidine by π-π stacking interaction of a pentafluorophenyl group toward asymmetric borane reduction

A pentafluorophenyl group can act as a stereo-controlling group in oxazaborolidine-catalyzed asymmetric borane reduction through intramolecular π-π stacking interaction with a phenyl group. The intramolecular π-π interaction in oxazaborolidine bearing pentafluorophenyl group is confirmed by calculations and ¹H NMR study. The interaction affects the enantioselectivity of the asymmetric reduction of acetophenone while the extent is small.     

Transformed steroids

A preparative method for 9a-hydroxylation of ⁵-3-hydroxysteroids using the fungi ofCircinella sp. 10Kh-1220 not capable of modifying theA ring has been developed. It is established that the yields of the main and the side products greatly depend on the transformation conditions, mycelium age, and the structure of the steroid substrate. Under the optimal transformation conditions novel 9-hydroxysubstituted derivatives of androstenolone, pregnenolone, 16-dehydro-16,17-epoxy-, and-16-methoxypregnenolone have been obtained in 36–80 % yields.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Deoxypegan-1-one derivatives. synthesis and borohydride reduction of 3-[(E)-arylmethylidene]-3,9-dihydropyrrolo[2,1-b]quinazolin-1(2H)-ones

3-[(E)-Arylmethylidene]-3,9-dihydropyrrolo[2,1-b]quinazolin-1(2H)-ones were prepared by reaction of quinazolyl-2-propionic acid hydrochloride with aromatic aldehydes in acetic anhydride in the presence of Et₃N. 3-[(E)-Arylmethylidene]-1,2,3,9-tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-b]quinazolin-1-ols were formed by reduction of the 3-arylidene derivatives with sodium borohydride in methanol, readily lost water when heated with acids, and were converted into 3-[(E)-arylmethylidene]-3,9-dihydropyrrolo[2,1-b]quinazolines. __________ Translated from Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 5, pp. 463–467, September–October, 2006.     

Similarities and differences in the electron ionization-induced fragmentation of structurally related N-alkoxymethyl lactams and sultams

Unimolecular fragmentation patterns of the molecular ions of selected lactams and sultams bearing alkoxymethyl group at the nitrogen atom were studied. The main common fragmentation reaction observed for all compounds studied in this work is the elimination of an aldehyde molecule. This reaction is considered to proceed via two different mechanisms. For lactams, hydrogen rearrangement within an alkoxymethyl group is observed, which leads to the appropriate N-methyl derivatives. For sultams, transfer of the methyl group to the nitrogen and oxygen atoms, proceeding through an ion-neutral complex, dominates. Another important fragmentation channel characteristic exclusively for lactams is the loss of an alkyl radical. This process takes place within the N-alkoxymethyl moiety, yielding the appropriate protonated ion of N-formyllactams. This process is accompanied by relatively high kinetic energy release.
