An approach is described to measure the electric field shielding performance of materials as a function of frequency. This provides a broader appreciation of the performance of materials than is available from standard energy transfer type measurements. Materials that include metallic conducting components show little variation of shielding performance with frequency, whereas the performance of resistive materials falls away with increasing frequency. It is shown that the variation of attenuation with frequency relates to the resistivity on or within the material. This has particular practical relevance to the risk of occurrence of damaging or incendive electrostatic discharges from charged material surfaces.  相似文献

Poly(isobutyl methacrylate) (PiBMA) microspheres with a 800- to 1500-μm diameter range synthesized by suspension polymerization technique were used as the trunk polymer in the preparation of a highly efficient new adsorbent. Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was grafted onto the trunk polymer by pre-irradiation grafting technique. Grafting conditions were optimized, and GMA grafted PiBMA beads were modified with iminodiacetonitrile (IDAN) in ethanol at 80 °C. The nitrile groups were then amidoximated by using 6% (m/v) hydroxylamine hydrochloride in methanol solution. The IDAN modification and the conversion of the nitrile groups to amidoxime were followed by FT-IR spectroscopy. The surface morphology and thermal behavior of the PiBMA and its modificated forms were also characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) techniques further confirming modification and amidoximation.  相似文献

Masked hexayne 18 was prepared in 11 steps from commercially available reagents. The four butenyl substituents contained within the two arylsilane residues in 18 have been used in a double ring-closing-metathesis operation in an attempt to encapsulate the π-conjugated framework. When 18 was treated with Grubbs’ 1st generation metathesis catalyst however, double ring-closing metathesis provided macrocycle 19 as the major product in good yield. Reasons why the macrocycle in 19 crowns, rather than encapsulates, the π-conjugated framework are discussed.  相似文献

Summary The effect of a series of polyacrylic acids, ranging in molecular weight from 1.67×104 to 2.36×106, on the stability of positively charged silver iodide particles has been examined. Flocculation of the sol occurred at a well defined concentration of polyacrylic acid,c f , and a further increase in concentration of the polyelectrolyte caused restabilization of the sol. A streaming potential analyzer has been used to investigate the effect of solution chemistry on the surface charge of four commercial reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membranes. Zeta potentials of these membranes were analyzed for aqueous solutions of various chemical compositions over a pH range of 2 to 9. In the presence of an indifferent electrolyte (NaCl), the isoelectric points of these membranes range from 3.0 to 5.2. The curves of zeta potential versus solution pH for all membranes display a shape characteristic of amphoteric surfaces with acidic and basic functional groups. Results with salts containing divalent ions (CaCl2, Na2SO4, and MgSO4) indicate that divalent cations more readily adsorb to the membrane surface than divalent anions, especially in the higher pH range. Three sources of humic acid, Suwannee River humic acid, peat humic acid, and Aldrich humic acid, were used to investigate the effect of dissolved natural organic matter on membrane surface charge. Other solution chemistries involved in this investigation include an anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate) and a cationic surfactant (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide). Results show that humic substances and surfactants readily adsorb to the membrane surface and markedly influence the membrane surface charge.  相似文献

Differential scanning calorimetry has been used to study the heat flow during melting and crystallisation of a range of polypropylene post-consumer waste (PP PCW) grades and blends. The heat flow curves and the heat capacity curves indicated that the PP PCW grades and blends contained contaminants even after manual sorting and a cleaning process. The enthalpies of the PP PCW grades were lower than that for the virgin grades, as a result of degradation. Small amounts of polymeric contaminants (up to 10%) did not affect the enthalpies of PP PCW although other contaminants may have had some effect. The enthalpies of the PCW blends could in general be predicted by a linear additive rule, which is of importance for recycling a variety of PP PCW products.The authors would like to thank Dr. M. Electrochemical oxidation of water to produce highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (OH) is the dominant factor that accounts for the organic compounds removal efficiency in water treatment. As an emerging carbon-based material, the investigation of electrocatalytic of water to produce OH on Graphdiyne (GDY) anode is firstly evaluated by using first-principles calculations. The theoretical calculation results demonstrated that the GDY anode owns a large oxygen evolution reaction (OER) overpotential (ηOER = 1.95 V) and a weak sorptive ability towards oxygen evolution intermediates (HO*, not OH). The high Gibbs energy change of HO* (3.18 eV) on GDY anode makes the selective production of OH (ΔG = 2.4 eV) thermodynamically favorable. The investigation comprises the understanding of the relationship between OER to electrochemical advanced oxidation process (EAOP), and give a proof-of-concept of finding the novel and robust environmental EAOP anode at quantum chemistry level.  相似文献
