Synthesis of N-heteroaromatic onium betaines of indane-1,3-dione

Betaines are formed in good yields in the reaction of N-heteroaromatic compounds with 2-dicyanomethyleneindane-1,3-dione oxide and its 4- and 5-halo derivatives in dioxane. The corresponding oxides were obtained by oxidation of 2-dicyanomethyleneindane-1,3-dione and its 4- and 5-substituted derivatives with hydrogen peroxide in dioxane. Optical and photochemical properties of N-benzalaminophenylpyridinium perchlorates

The electronic spectra of a number of benzylidene derivatives of N-aminoarylpyridinium perchlorates are associated with absorption localized on the individual pyridinium and azomethine fragments and with intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) from the azomethine fragment to the pyridinium ring. The luminescence is associated with the latter process. The photochromism is due to proton transfer in the excited state of the azomethine fragment, which competes with ICT, and is also due to structural factors.

Carbonylation reaction Communication 11. Carbonylation of amino alcohols and some cyclic amines with carbon monoxide in the presence of mercuric acetate

Conclusions Primary amino alcohols react with CO in the presence of mercuric acetate at 100–200° and a pressure of 100–150 atm to give the corresponding N-(hydroxyalkyl)formamides in a yield of 1.4–2.5 M/M of reacted Hg(OCOCH₂)₃.
