Quantum McKay Correspondence for Disc Invariants of Toric Calabi–Yau 3-orbifolds

We announce a result on quantum McK ay correspondence for disc invariants of outer legs in toric Calabi–Yau 3-orbifolds, and illustrate our method in a special example [C3/Z5(1, 1, 3)].     

Amicoumacins from the marine-derived bacterium Bacillus sp. with the inhibition of NO production

Chemical examination of the fermentation broth of the marine-derived bacterium Bacillus sp. resulted in the isolation of seven new amicoumacin-type isocoumarin derivatives, namely bacillcoumacins A–G (1–7), together with four known analogues. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, while the absolute configurations of the new compounds were determined by CD, Mosher’s method, and chemical conversion. Compounds 7 and 9 showed inhibitory effects against the NO production induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mouse macrophage RAW 264.7 cells.     

Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric 1,6-addition of diphenylphosphine to (4-aryl-1,3-butadienylidene)bis(phosphonates) for the synthesis of chiral phosphines

An asymmetric 1,6-addition of diphenylphosphine to (4-aryl-1,3-butadienylidene)bis(phosphonates) catalyzed by a PCP pincer–Pd complex has been developed for the synthesis of chiral allylic phosphines with up to 91% ee under mild conditions.     

Dried Biomass of Activated Sludge for Cu2+ Adsorption: Behaviors and Mechanisms

Activated sludge was tested for its ability to remove Cu²⁺ from aqueous solution. The effects of various experimental parameters (initial pH, initial Cu²⁺ concentration, adsorbent dosage, and temperature) on Cu²⁺ adsorption were evaluated. The Langmuir isotherm model well described the adsorption of Cu²⁺ onto activated sludge. The pseudo-second-order kinetic equation was appropriate for describing the kinetic performance of the sorption. Furthermore, Webber–Morris models indicated that the sorption of Cu²⁺ was generally found to involve with the intraparticle diffusion process. Parameters of adsorption thermodynamic suggested that the interaction of Cu²⁺ adsorbed by sludge was spontaneous and exothermic. Activated sludge was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis and results showed that active groups such as –OH, –COOH, –NH₂ were involved in Cu²⁺ adsorption. Zeta potential analysis demonstrated inner-sphere adsorption for Cu²⁺ adsorption on sludge.     

Enhanced in vitro anticancer activity of quercetin mediated by functionalized CdTe QDs

We report in this study the effects of red-emitting CdTe QDs capped with cysteamine(Cys-CdTe) on the in vitro anticancer activity of the well-known flavenoid quercetin(Qu). Various techniques, including the methylthiazolyldiphenyl-tetrazolium bromide assay, the real-time cell electronic sensing system, the optical and fluorescence imaging, and electrochemical methods have been utilized to study the potential interactions of Cys-CdTe QDs with Qu. The observations demonstrate that the safe-dosage Cys-CdTe QDs can greatly improve the drug uptake and enhance the inhibition efficiency of Qu towards the proliferation of cancer cells such as HepG2 cells. This study implies that Cys-CdTe QDs may be used for cancer therapy and that they exert a synergic anticancer effect when bound to drug molecules.     

Generalized Fourth-Order Decompositions of Imaginary Time Path Integral: Implications of the Harmonic Oscillator

The imaginary time path integral formalism offers a powerful numerical tool for simulating thermodynamic properties of realistic systems. We show that, when second-order and fourth-order decompositions are employed, they share a remarkable unified analytic form for the partition function of the harmonic oscillator. We are then able to obtain the expression of the thermodynamic property and the leading error terms as well. In order to obtain reasonably optimal values of the free parameters in the generalized symmetric fourth-order decomposition scheme, we eliminate the leading error terms to achieve the accuracy of desired order for the thermodynamic property of the harmonic system. Such a strategy leads to an efficient fourth-order decomposition that produces third-order accurate thermodynamic properties for general systems.

Genome-wide detection and characterization of positive selection in human populations

With the advent of dense maps of human genetic variation, it is now possible to detect positive natural selection across the human genome. Here we report an analysis of over 3 million polymorphisms from the International HapMap Project Phase 2 (HapMap2). We used 'long-range haplotype' methods, which were developed to identify alleles segregating in a population that have undergone recent selection, and we also developed new methods that are based on cross-population comparisons to discover alleles that have swept to near-fixation within a population. The analysis reveals more than 300 strong candidate regions. Focusing on the strongest 22 regions, we develop a heuristic for scrutinizing these regions to identify candidate targets of selection. In a complementary analysis, we identify 26 non-synonymous, coding, single nucleotide polymorphisms showing regional evidence of positive selection. Examination of these candidates highlights three cases in which two genes in a common biological process have apparently undergone positive selection in the same population:LARGE and DMD, both related to infection by the Lassa virus, in West Africa;SLC24A5 and SLC45A2, both involved in skin pigmentation, in Europe; and EDAR and EDA2R, both involved in development of hair follicles, in Asia.     

辣椒素的提取和鉴定

辣椒素是辣椒果实中的主要辣味成分,在现实生活中有多种用途.为了提高辣椒素的提取效率,对辣椒素提取条件进行了优化研究.结果表明,提取的较适工艺是浸取溶剂为75%乙醇,浸取温度45℃,液固比10:1,浸取时间4h,提取级数为二级,在此条件下辣椒素的提取率为3.98‰.HPLC对比分析显示分离纯化效果较好.
