Fusion excitation functions are measured for the system 6Li + 28Si using the characteristic $ \gamma$ -ray method, encompassing both the sub-barrier and above-barrier regions, viz, E lab = 7-24 MeV. Two separate experiments were performed, one for the above-barrier region ( E lab = 11-24 MeV) and another for the below-barrier region ( E lab = 7-10 MeV). The results were compared with our previously measured fusion cross-section for the 7Li + 28Si system. We observed the enhancement of the fusion cross-section at sub-barrier regions for both 6Li and 7Li , but the yield was substantially larger for 6Li . However, for well-above-barrier regions, a similar type of suppression was identified for both the systems.  相似文献

There is size information in natural sounds. For example, as humans grow in height, their vocal tracts increase in length, producing a predictable decrease in the formant frequencies of speech sounds. Recent studies have shown that listeners can make fine discriminations about which of two speakers has the longer vocal tract, supporting the view that the auditory system discriminates changes on the acoustic-scale dimension. Listeners can also recognize vowels scaled well beyond the range of vocal tracts normally experienced, indicating that perception is robust to changes in acoustic scale. This paper reports two perceptual experiments designed to extend research on acoustic scale and size perception to the domain of musical sounds: The first study shows that listeners can discriminate the scale of musical instrument sounds reliably, although not quite as well as for voices. The second experiment shows that listeners can recognize the family of an instrument sound which has been modified in pitch and scale beyond the range of normal experience. We conclude that processing of acoustic scale in music perception is very similar to processing of acoustic scale in speech perception.  相似文献

Dispersion compensating fibers (DCFs) are being widely used as dispersion compensation techniques because of its superior characteristics. This work reports the theoretical modelling of a single mode DCF having W-shaped shallow as well as deeply depressed clad profile. The DCFs have been designed and optimized by suitable adjusting different fiber parameters such as, central relative index difference (Δ+), inner core radius (a), depression depth parameter (ρ), normalized end position of the depressed clad (p), etc. at a given spot size . The figure of merit (FOM) characteristics including the bend loss as well as other losses associated with fiber manufacturing technique have been thoroughly investigated. Performances of these DCFs for recent wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission system have also been discussed. By adjusting different fiber parameters, the effective core area (Aeff) of the above DCFs can be controlled to minimize the effect of non-linearities on them.  相似文献

We report the formation of H3+ by proton coagulation in methanol under the impact of low energy Ar(8+) projectiles. Our time-of-flight coincidence measurements with CH3OD establish that the H3+ formation arises from intramolecular bond rearrangement of the methyl group. We have performed ab initio quantum chemical calculations that show the preferred pathway for C-H3 bond cleavage. Fragmentation of organic molecules like methanol under impact of highly charged ions is suggested as an alternative mechanism of H3+ formation in outer space.  相似文献

Glassy, disubstituted acetylene-based polymers exhibit extremely high gas permeabilities and high vapor/gas selectivities, which is quite unusual for conventional glassy polymers such as polysulfone. Diffusion coefficients of poly[1-phenyl-2-[p-(trimethylsilyl)phenyl]acetylene] (PTMSDPA) and poly[diphenylacetylene] (PDPA) were obtained using both molecular simulation and experimental techniques. PTMSDPA, a disubstituted glassy acetylene-based polymer, exhibits higher diffusivity than its desilylated analogue, PDPA. Simulation results are in good agreement with experimental data. Cavity size (free volume) distributions of both polymers are also obtained using an energetic-based algorithm (in't Veld et al., J. Phys. Chem. B 2000, 104, 12028) developed recently. Larger cavities in PTMSDPA contribute to its higher diffusivity, and higher permeability.  相似文献

Since the work of Ebbesen et al. [Nature (London) 391, 667 (1998)], there has been immense interest in the optical properties of subwavelength holes in metal layers. While the enhanced transmission observed is generally associated with surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs), theoretical predictions suggest a similar response with perfectly conducting materials. However, Pendry et al. [Science 305, 847 (2004)] proposed that, if textured on a subwavelength scale, even perfect conductors support surface modes. Here, using microwave radiation incident upon an array of metal waveguides, we observe peaks in the transmissivity below cutoff and confirm the crucial role of these SPP-like modes in the mechanism responsible.  相似文献

The cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) multigene family in planta encodes proteins catalyzing the reductions of various phenylpropenyl aldehyde derivatives in a substrate versatile manner, and whose metabolic products are the precursors of structural lignins, health-related lignans, and various other metabolites. In Arabidopsis thaliana, the two isoforms, AtCAD5 and AtCAD4, are the catalytically most active being viewed as mainly involved in the formation of guaiacyl/syringyl lignins. In this study, we determined the crystal structures of AtCAD5 in the apo-form and as a binary complex with NADP+, respectively, and modeled that of AtCAD4. Both AtCAD5 and AtCAD4 are dimers with two zinc ions per subunit and belong to the Zn-dependent medium chain dehydrogenase/reductase (MDR) superfamily, on the basis of their overall 2-domain structures and distribution of secondary structural elements. The catalytic Zn2+ ions in both enzymes are tetrahedrally coordinated, but differ from those in horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase since the carboxyl side-chain of Glu70 is ligated to Zn2+ instead of water. Using AtCAD5, site-directed mutagenesis of Glu70 to alanine resulted in loss of catalytic activity, thereby indicating that perturbation of the Zn2+ coordination was sufficient to abolish catalytic activity. The substrate-binding pockets of both AtCAD5 and AtCAD4 were also examined, and found to be significantly different and smaller compared to that of a putative aspen sinapyl alcohol dehydrogenase (SAD) and a putative yeast CAD. While the physiological roles of the aspen SAD and the yeast CAD are uncertain, they nevertheless have a high similarity in the overall 3D structures to AtCAD5 and 4. With the bona fide CAD's from various species, nine out of the twelve residues which constitute the proposed substrate-binding pocket were, however, conserved. This is provisionally considered as indicative of a characteristic fingerprint for the CAD family.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] Stereoselective isomerization of C-allyl glycosides into (E)-C-vinyl glycosides or (Z)-exo-glycals was carried out in the presence of the cationic iridium(I) catalyst [(Ph(2)MeP)(2)Ir(cod)PF(6)]. The products of the isomerization were affected by the relative 1,2-stereochemical relationships and by the nature of the protecting groups. These effects are discussed along with a plausible reaction mechanism.  相似文献
