Crystal structure of (1,10-phenanthroline-N,N')(1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-N,N',N",N"')nickel(II) diperchlorate.

The crystal structure of the title compound, [Ni(C8H20N4)(C12H8N2)](ClO4)2, has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The Ni(II) ion is six coordinated with four nitrogen atoms of the tetradentate macrocyclic ligand and two nitrogen atoms of the bidentate ligand in a distorted octahedron geometry. The folded tetradentate macrocyclic ligand adopts a configuration having four five-membered chelate rings in distorted eclipsed conformations. The four hydrogen atoms of the amine groups of the macrocyclic ligand are on the same side towards the bidentate ligand.     

Synthesis, characterization and magnetic properties of novel μ-isophthalato oxovanadium(IV) binuclear complexes

Four novel oxovanadium(IV) binuclear complexes have been synthesized, namely [(VO)₂(IPHTA) (L)₂SO₄ (L denotes 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy); 1,10-phenanthroline (phen); 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine (Me₂bpy) and 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline (NO₂-phen)), where IPHTA is the isophthalate dianon. Based on elemental analyses, molar conductivity measurements, IR and electronic spectra studies, it is proposed that these complexes have IPHTA-bridged structures and consist of two vanadium(IV) atoms in a square-pyramidal environment. The complexes [(VO)₂(IPHTA)(Me₂bpy)₂]SO₄ (1) and [(VO)₂(IPHTA)(bpy)₂]SO₄ (2) were characterized by variable temperature magnetic susceptibility (4–300 K) and the data could be well fitted by the least-squares method to a susceptibility equation derived from the spin Hamiltonian operator, . The exchange integral, J, was found to be −26.8 cm⁻¹ for (1) and −31.0 cm⁻¹ for (2). These results are commensurate with antifferomagnetic interactions between two oxovanadium(IV) ions within each molecule. The influence of different terminal ligands on magnetic interactions between the metals of this kind of complexes is also discussed.

Microstructure and photoluminescence of a-SiO x :H

Two strong photoluminescence (PL) bands in the spectral range of 550–900 nm have been observed at room temperature from a series of a-SiO _x :H films fabricated by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique. One is composed of a main band in the red-light region and a shoulder; the other is located at about 850 nm, only found after 1170°C annealing in N₂ atmosphere. In conjunction with infrared (IR) and micro-Raman spectra, it is thought that the two PL bands are associated with a-Si clusters in the SiO _x network and nanocrystalline silicon in SiO₂, respectively. Output characteristics analyses of a novel dual-slab laser with an off-axis one-sided stable-unstable resonator

A novel dual-slab laser with an off-axis one-sided stable-unstable resonator which can compensate for thermal distortion to some extent by flipping the optical beam is described in this paper. The output power,efficiency, and near-field and far-field intensity distributions of the dual-slab laser have been studied. The results indicate that the novel dual-slab laser has better performance than the normal dual-slab laser with the same off-axis one-sided stable-unstable resonator.

Long-range electron spin-spin interactions from unparticle exchange

Unparticles as suggested by Georgi are identities that are not constrained by dispersion relations but are governed by their scaling dimension d. Their coupling to particles can result in macroscopic interactions between matter that are generally an inverse nonintegral power of distance. This is totally different from known macroscopic forces. Vacuum Rabi Splitting and Kerr Effect of a Hybrid Spin–Magnon–Photon System

The vacuum Rabi splitting and Kerr effect are investigated theoretically in a hybrid spin–magnon–photon system, where the nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond driven by two light fields is coupled to a spherical micromagnet embedded in a superconducting coplanar waveguide resonator. The results indicate that the phenomenon of the Mollow triplet and vacuum Rabi splitting can appear by controlling the spin–magnon coupling and magnon–photon coupling. It is shown that the probe absorption spectrum can be adjusted effectively via the pump frequency detuning. Moreover, it is demonstrated that the optical Kerr effect can be tuned by changing the Rabi frequency. This work may provide a possibility for the applications in quantum information processing and quantum sensing of magnetic signal.     

Experimental research on flame spectra of methane-coal dust explosions

The significance of experimental research on flame spectra of methane-coal dust explosions is explained. Weak explosions of methane-coal dust-air mixtures were carried out in a large-scale tube of Ø 200 cm×2900cm with one end open, and the absolute radiation intensities as well as their variation under different conditions for characteristic wavelengths of 0.8875, 1.000, 1.505, 2.801, and 4.346μm were obtained by using small angle of view and a multichannel detector developed by us. The experimental results are discussed and compared with those published abroad. Based on the absolute radiation intensity measured at wavelength 4.346μm and the selected blackbody radiation model, the temperature of explosion flame was determined. The results obtained are not only of great practical importance to the industry but may also be used in the study of flame and chemical kinetics.
