Researches on aromatic heterocyclic compounds III. The aromatic character of piazthiol

The PMR spectra of piazthiol, which is benzo[1,2-c]-[1,2,5]-thiodiazole, and of its- and-nitro, chloro, methyl and amino derivatives are investigated. The effects of these substituents on the chemical shift is in qualitative agreement with the like effects in the benzene series. The parameters of the corresponding PMR spectra are greatly dependent on the electrophilic action of the heterocyclic ring. It is shown that there is conjugation in the thiadiazole ring, although, however, it is much weakened compared with that existing in the benzene ring.For Part II see [10].The authors thank V. F. The change in the properties of fats on thermal treatment

Summary The fatty-acid composition of a mixture of cottonseed oil and mutton fat in a ratio of 1:1 before and after thermal treatment has been studied. A novel transformation of O-methyldalbergin

O-methyldalbergin and related 4-phenylcoumarins are markedly different from ordinary coumarins in their behaviour towards alkali. They are stable in boiling alkali and on addition of mercuric oxide yield coumarilic acids. Phenyl-coumarilic acids undergo decarboxylation readily when boiled with aqueous alcoholic mercuric chloride to yield phenyl substituted coumarones.     

Control of mesoporous structure of aerogels derived from cresol-formaldehyde

Polycondensation of a cresol mixture (C(m)) with formaldehyde (F) in basic aqueous solutions leads to formation of highly cross-linked C(m)F aquagels that can be supercritically dried with carbon dioxide to form organic C(m)F aerogels. Aerogels synthesized with different catalyst contents and reactant concentrations are characterized by low-temperature nitrogen adsorption. The present experimental results suggest that the C(m)F aerogels are typical mesoporous materials and have almost no micropores in bulk. The microstructure of the organic C(m)F aerogels can be controlled and tailored effectively by varying synthesis conditions during the initial sol-gel process. C(m)F organic aerogels with specific surface area as high as 627 m(2)/g and corresponding pore volume 2.06 ml/g have been obtained with a dominant pore size of 30 nm. C(m)F organic aerogels with peaky pore size distributions concentrated at 11 nm have also been prepared.     

Self-assembly of highly oriented one-dimensional h-WO3 nanostructures

A new self-assembled and highly oriented one-dimensional single-crystal nanostructure of WO3 with hexagonal form was successfully prepared by a mild, solution-based colloidal approach.     

Influence of pore diffusion on the kinetics of catalytic oxidation of ethylene

Internal diffusion influences the kinetics of ethylene oxidation on an industrial silver catalyst at temperatures higher than 240°C. This influence is completely eliminated when the diameter of the catalyst grains is decreased by a factor of 1/2.

Catalytic effect of metal ions on photochemical reactions of molecular oxygen, III. Photochemical autoxidation of sulfite catalyzed by manganese(II) ions

The rate of photoinitiated autoxidation of sulfite is influenced by manganese(II) ions even in trace concentrations. An increase in the concentration of manganese(II) ions in the reaction system increases the quantum yield of the photoinitiated reaction.
