A Convenient and Effective Synthesis of Tris-Bridged Tricationic Azolophanes

Two new macrobicyclic imidazolium and benzimidazolium phanes were synthesized by direct quaternization of the corresponding tripodal azacycles with tribromide under high dilution condition in excellent yields. The cyclophanes were identified by ¹H-NMR, ¹³C-NMR, FAB-MS, IR, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Synthesis of 1,4-dienes by Pd(II)-catalyzed haloallylation of alkynes with allylic alcohols in ionic liquids

A Pd-catalyzed haloallylation of alkynes with allyl alcohols in ionic liquids has been reported. Both chloroallylation and bromoallylation can be easily carried out with high selectivity. A variety of 1,4-dienes were formed in moderate to excellent yields. The reaction system of the Pd catalyst as well as the ionic liquid can be recycled for several times. And the ionic liquid acts as not only a solvent in the reaction, but also provides the excess halide ions to control Z/E selectivity and acts as a ligand inhibit the β-hydride elimination.     

Synthesis of stable aqueous dispersion of graphene/polyaniline composite mediated by polystyrene sulfonic acid

A facile method of producing stable aqueous dispersion of graphene/polyaniline (PANI) composite is described, which involves the in situ polymerization of aniline on the surface of graphene with the aid of polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSS). The prepared aqueous graphene/PANI composite dispersion was very stable and no aggregation or precipitation was observed for several weeks. The excellent aqueous dispersibility and stability of the graphene/PANI composite is attributed to the cooperative interactions of π stacking interaction between PSS, PANI, and the graphene basal planes, and the electrostatic repulsions between negatively charged PSS bound on graphene/PANI composite. Fourier transform‐infrared spectrometry (FTIR), ultraviolet‐visible spectra (UV–vis), and Raman spectra confirmed the interaction of PANI and graphene in the composite, which effectively delocalize the electrons. In addition, the composite showed three orders of magnitude of conductivity increase compared with pure PANI. This new approach is simple, fast, and straightforward, representing a significant improvement in the processing of graphene/PANI composites. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel ether-functional spiro-tetronic acid derivatives: molecule design, convenient synthesis and biological evaluation

A novel series of ether functionalization of spiro-tetronic acid derivatives have been designed and conveniently synthesized via three steps, including esterification, one-pot heterocyclization, and etherification reactions. The target molecules have been identified on the basis of analytical spectra data. All newly synthesized compounds have been screened for their potential insecticidal activity against Heliothis armigera and Plutella xylostella compared with spirodiclofen by standard method.

Facile Fabrication of Nanorod‐Assembled Fluorine‐Substituted Hydroxyapatite (FHA) Microspheres

Nanorod‐assembled FHA microspheres with different F contents were for the first time prepared through a facile one‐step hydrothermal method. The effect of the reaction time and pH value of reaction solutions on the FHA morphology was investigated to elucidate the self‐assembly process of FHA microspheres. The results showed pH values had significant effect on the morphology of the formed FHA crystals, which were self‐assembled into sphere‐like sturctures at high pH conditions and rod‐like structures at low pH values. The results suggested that formation of FHA crystals with varied morphology may be directly related to Ca²⁺ release kinetics from EDTA‐Ca‐Na₂ at different pH conditions. Furthermore, it was found that the chemical stability of FHA microspheres was dependent on the F content in the materials, and high F contents in FHA microspheres lead to improved chemical stability. These results suggest that the prepared self‐assembled FHA microspheres may be used for teeth substitution materials due to their unique hierarchical structures and controllable chemical stability.
