The size-dependent mechanical response of a simple model microstructure is investigated using continuum dislocation-based, Cosserat and strain-gradient models of crystal plasticity. The governing equations and closed-form analytical solutions for plastic slip and lattice rotation are directly compared. The microstructure consists of a periodic succession of hard (elastic) and soft (elastoplastic single-crystal) layers, subjected to single glide perpendicular to the layers. In the dislocation-based approach, inhomogeneous plastic deformation and lattice rotation are shown to develop in the soft channels, either because of bowing of dislocations or owing to pile-up formation. The generalized continuum non-local models are found to be able to reproduce the plastic slip and lattice rotation distribution. In particular, a correspondence was found between the generalized-continuum results and line tension effects; the additional or higher- order balance equations introduced in the non-local models turn out to be the counterparts of the equilibrium equation for bowed dislocations. The relevance and possible physical interpretation of additional or higher-order interface conditions responsible for the inhomogeneous distribution of plastic slip and lattice rotations are discussed.  相似文献

A macroscopic coupled stress-diffusion theory which accounts for the effects of nonlinear material behaviour, based on the framework proposed by Cahn and Larché, is presented and implemented numerically into the finite element method. The numerical implementation is validated against analytical solutions for different boundary valued problems. Particular attention is payed to the open system elastic constants, i.e. those derived at constant diffusion potential, since they enable, under circumstances, the equilibrium composition field for any generic chemical-mechanical coupled problem to be obtained through the solution of an equivalent elastic problem. Finally, the effects of plasticity on the overall equilibrium state of the coupled problem solution are discussed.  相似文献

Laser spectroscopy provides model-independent access to a variety of radioactive nuclear ground state and isomeric state properties. These include the nuclear moments, changes in mean-square charge radii, and direct measurements of the nuclear spin. At the IGISOL laboratory, the collinear laser spectroscopy programme is able to access cases, such as refractory elements and short-lived states, not available at conventional facilities. The first formulation of a phase field model accounting for size-dependent viscoplasticity is developed to study materials in which microstructure evolution and viscoplastic behavior are strongly coupled. Plasticity is introduced using a continuum strain gradient formalism which captures the size effect of the viscoplastic behavior. First, the influence of this size effect on the mechanical behavior of the material is discussed in static microstructures. Then, the dynamic coupling between microstructure evolution and viscoplastic activity is addressed and illustrated by the rafting of the microstructure observed in Ni-base superalloys under creep conditions. It is found that the plastic size effect has only a moderate impact on the shape of the rafts but is crucial to reproduce the macroscopic mechanical behavior of that particular material.  相似文献

The magnetic field measured in the Madison dynamo experiment shows intermittent periods of growth when an axial magnetic field is applied. The geometry of the intermittent field is consistent with the fastest-growing magnetic eigenmode predicted by kinematic dynamo theory using a laminar model of the mean flow. Though the eigenmodes of the mean flow are decaying, it is postulated that turbulent fluctuations of the velocity field change the flow geometry such that the eigenmode growth rate is temporarily positive. Therefore, it is expected that a characteristic of the onset of a turbulent dynamo is magnetic intermittency.  相似文献

Optical experiments at the IGISOL isotope separator facility, Jyväskylä, have for many years benefited from the introduction of an ion beam cooler. The device, a gas-filled RF quadrupole, reduces the emittance and longitudinal energy spread of the ion beam. Very recently, use has been made of the axial confinement of slowly travelling ions at the end of the cooler to redistribute the electronic populations through efficient laser excitation. Such a technique has proved beneficial to laser spectroscopic measurements and is a precursor to using the method to polarize the ion beam.  相似文献

An invariant representation of the modulation equations for the sinh- and sine-Gordon wavetrains is derived. A simple derivation of the representation which makes fundamental use of squared eigenfunctions is presented. This representation is used to place the modulation equations in Riemann invariant form and to cast them in a Hamiltonian form. The multiphase sinh-Gordon study is complete, while the sine-Gordon theory for more than one phase possesses technical difficulties which are described in the text. Explicit results on real two-phase sine-Gordon waves are included in Section VI.  相似文献

Inverse spectral theory is used to prescribe and study equations for the slow modulations of N-phase wave trains for the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. An invariant representation of the modulational equations is deduced. This representation depends upon certain differentials on a Riemann surface. When evaluated near ∞ on the surface, the invariant representation reduces to averaged conservations laws; when evaluated near the branch points, the representation shows that the simple eigenvalues provide Riemann invariants for the modulational equations. Integrals of the invariant representation over certain cycles on the Riemann surface yield “conservation of waves.” Explicit formulas for the characteristic speeds of the modulational equations are derived. These results generalize known results for a single-phase traveling wave, and indicate that complete integrability can induce enough structure into the modulational equations to diagonalize (in the sense of Riemann invariants) their first-order terms.  相似文献

A modulational stability analysis is presented for real, two-phase sine-Gordon wavetrains. Using recent results on the geometry of these real solutions, an invariant representation in terms of Abelian differentials is derived for the sine-Gordon modulation equations. The theory thus attains the same integrable features of the previously completed KdV and sinh-Gordon modulations. The twophase results are as follows: kink-kink trains are stable, while the breather trains and kink-radiation trains are unstable, to modulations.  相似文献

A new RFQ ion-beam cooler and buncher, installed after the mass-separating magnet of the ion guide isotope separator, IGISOL, JYFL, has dramatically increased the scope of on-line laser spectroscopy at this facility. The device, operated in a bunching mode, has permitted new measurements on short-lived radionuclei in the Ti, Zr and Hf chains at a sensitivity two orders of magnitude greater than that previously achieved. The device has also opened new prospects for laser-based nuclear spectroscopy at the facility, particularly collinear resonance ionisation spectroscopy.
