σ,π-acetylido complexes via P---C bond cleavage of phosphinoacetylenes: X-ray structure of Fe2(CO)6(CCPh)(PPh2)

Solutions of Co^II salts of organic acids in primary amines absorb molecular oxygen rapidly and irreversibly forming μ-dioxygen—cobalt complexes. Thermolysis leads to a homopolar cleavage of the OO bond with subsequent radical reactions involving ligand amine. After thermolysis the capacity of oxygen uptake is reestablished (catalysis).     

Neue anorganische Ringsysteme. 34. Derivate eines Cyclo-1-thiaIV- und eines Cyclo-1-thiaIV- 3,4-disila-2,5-diazans

Novel Inorganic Ring Systems. 34. Derivatives of the Cyclo-1-thia^IV- and of the Cyclo-1-thia ^VI-3,4-disila-2,5-diazane Variations of fivemembered “hetero” cyclosilazanes of the type Si₂N₂El could be enlarged to the systems with El = SO and SO₂. They are obtained by the formation principles 4 + 1 and 2 + 3 respectively, according to the equation (1), (4) and (5). The prepared compound are described in their properties and confirmed in their structure (Tables 1–2).     

Synthesis,Structure, and Optical Properties of Terminally Sulfur‐Functionalized Core‐Substituted Naphthalene‐Bisimide Dyes

The synthesis, characterization, and optical properties of a series of new 2,6‐disubstituted naphthalene‐bisimide dyes as molecular rods comprising terminal AcS groups is reported. The first series of dyes ( 1 – 3 ), comprising phenylhetero (Ph‐X) core substituents, cover a broad range of the VIS spectrum, ranging from yellow ( 2 ) over red ( 3 ) to blue ( 1 ). The second series of dyes contains benzylhetero (Bn‐X) core substituents ( 4 – 7 ). For the same heteroatom connecting the substituent to the naphthalene core, both series were found to display comparable colors. For the second series, the colors were blue ( 4 ), red ( 5 ), and violet ( 6, 7 ). The Ph‐X‐substituted dyes 1 – 3 are nonfluorescent, in contrast to the Bn‐X‐substituted compounds 4 – 7 . This rich variety of optical features that can be adjusted by rather small alterations of the core substituents makes these structurally very comparable molecular rods ideal candidates for optically triggered molecular‐transport investigations. Also, thanks to the terminal AcS groups, these compounds can be placed between nobel‐metal electrodes for optically triggered transport experiments.     

The determination of chlorinated biphenyls,chlorinated dibenzodioxins,and chlorinated dibenzofurans by GC-MS

High resolution gas chromatography, with mass selective detection, has been used for the analysis of PCB on methyl 50 % octyl polysiloxane (SB 50 Octyl), methyl octadecyl polysiloxane, and a smectic polysiloxane (SB Smectic); and for the analysis of polychlorodibenzodioxins and polychlorodibenzofurans with 1 to 8 chlorine substituents on 100 % cyanopropyl siloxane (SP 2331), smectic polysiloxane (SB Smectic), a new polar stationary phase (DB-Dioxin). The analysis has also been performed by column coupling.     

Synthesis of jasplakinolide analogues containing a novel omega-amino acid

The synthesis of the omega-amino acid 4 is described utilizing a two-dimensional synthesis strategy combined with an enzymatic differentiation of homotopic ester groups. The amino acid 4 features two non-bonded interactions that result in conformational constraints on a cyclic construct. This amino acid was incorporated into the four macrolactams 17, 22, 31, and 37. The ring in 17 and 22 is 18-membered, whereas 31 and 37 have a 19-membered ring. The pairs with the same ring size differ in a N-methyl group. For the larger macrolactams (31 and 37) conformational analysis showed that the macrocyclic rings are somewhat more rigid than in the natural lead, the depsipeptide jasplakinolide. Nevertheless, their conformations are comparable to the natural product. There are no intramolecular hydrogen bonds, neither is the cis-rotamer populated in the N-methyl compound 37. Due to the increased flexibility of the smaller macrolactams 17 and 22 and signal overlap, a distinct solution structure could not be obtained for these compounds. The amino acid 4 should be useful for restricting the conformation of other small peptides.

Reactions of 2- and 3-Phenyl Substituted Alkylalkylidene Iminium Ions in the Gas Phase The collision-induced fragmentations of 2- and 3-phenyl substituted alkylalkylidene iminium ions are reported. Besides the homolytic cleavage of the azaallyl bond a nucleophilic attack of the unsubstituted phenyl group at the iminium function is observed in the gas phase, yielding carbonium ions such as cyclopropanspirobenzenium ( 3 ), indanylium ( 10 ) and indenylium ions ( 11 ).     

Application of a green fluorescent fusion protein to study protein-protein interactions by electrophoretic methods

A screening procedure for protein-protein interactions in cellular extracts using a green fluorescent protein (GFP) and affinity capillary electrophoresis (ACE) was established. GFP was fused as a fluorescent indicator to the C-terminus of a cyclophilin (rDmCyp20) from Drosophila melanogaster. Cyclophilins (Cyps) belong to the ubiquitously distributed enzyme family of peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerases (PPlases) and are well known as cellular targets of the immunosuppressive drug cyclosporin A (CsA). The PPlase activity of the GFP fused rDmCyp20 as well as the high affinity to CsA remain intact. Using native gel electrophoresis and ACE mobility-shift assays, it was demonstrated that the known moderate affinity of Cyp20 to the capsid protein p24 of HIV-1 was detectable in the case of rDmCyp20 fused to the fluorescent tag. For the p24 / rDmCyp20-GFP binding an ACE method was established which allowed to determine a dissociation constant of Kd = 20+/-1.5 x 10(-6) M. This result was verified by size-exclusion chromatography and is in good agreement with published data for the nonfused protein. Moreover the fusion protein was utilized to screen rDmCyp20-protein interactions by capillary electrophoresis in biological matrices. A putative ligand of rDmCyp20 in crude extracts of embryonic D. melanogaster was discovered by mobility-shift assays using native gel electrophoresis with fluorescence imaging and ACE with laser-induced fluorescence detection. The approach seems applicable to a wide range of proteins and offers new opportunities to screen for moderate protein-protein interactions in biological samples.     

Synthetically attractive indolization processes and newer methods for the preparation of selectively substituted indoles

The synthetically interesting processes available for indolization reactions are discussed and illustrated in tabular form and particular emphasis is placed on the more recent methods.
