Cu(2)S nanocrystals with disklike morphologies were synthesized by the solventless thermolysis of a copper alkylthiolate molecular precursor. The nanodisks ranged from circular to hexagonal prisms from 3 to 150 nm in diameter and 3 to 12 nm in thickness depending on the growth conditions. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) revealed the high chalcocite (hexagonal) crystal structure oriented with the c-axis ([001] direction) orthogonal to the favored growth direction. This disk morphology is thermodynamically favored as it allows the extension of the higher energy [100] and [110] surfaces with respect to the [001] planes. The hexagonal prism morphology also appears to relate to increased C-S bond cleavage of adsorbed dodecanethiol along the more energetic [100] facets relative to [001] facets. Monodisperse Cu(2)S nanodisks self-assemble into ribbons of stacked platelets. This solventless approach provides a new technique to synthesize anisotropic metal chalcogenide nanostructures with shapes that depend on both the face-sensitive thermodynamic surface energy and the surface reactivity. 相似文献

The dynamic surface tension and the complex dynamic surface elasticity of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) solutions were measured in the concentration range 10(-5) wt% up to about 1 wt%. The surface tension changed slowly with time at low (<10(-4) wt%) and high concentrations (>0.1 wt%). At low concentrations this is a consequence of the slow transport by diffusion of PVP molecules from the depth of the bulk phase to the surface. At high concentrations the time effect is unexpected and probably the result of PVP contamination of high surface activity. The dynamic surface elasticity of PVP solutions gradually decreases with increasing concentration up to the range of high concentrations (>0.1 wt%) where an abrupt increase in the elasticity caused by the adsorbed impurity is observed. At low and medium concentrations the viscoelastic behavior of PVP adsorbed films is similar to that of the previously investigated poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(ethylene glycol) films and is determined by the number of loops and tails protruding into the bulk phase. 相似文献

Two defining functional features of ion channels are ion selectivity and channel gating. Ion selectivity is generally considered an immutable property of the open channel structure, whereas gating involves transitions between open and closed channel states, typically without changes in ion selectivity. In store-operated Ca(2+) release-activated Ca(2+) (CRAC) channels, the molecular mechanism of channel gating by the CRAC channel activator, stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), remains unknown. CRAC channels are distinguished by a very high Ca(2+) selectivity and are instrumental in generating sustained intracellular calcium concentration elevations that are necessary for gene expression and effector function in many eukaryotic cells. Here we probe the central features of the STIM1 gating mechanism in the human CRAC channel protein, ORAI1, and identify V102, a residue located in the extracellular region of the pore, as a candidate for the channel gate. Mutations at V102 produce constitutively active CRAC channels that are open even in the absence of STIM1. Unexpectedly, although STIM1-free V102 mutant channels are not Ca(2+)-selective, their Ca(2+) selectivity is dose-dependently boosted by interactions with STIM1. Similar enhancement of Ca(2+) selectivity is also seen in wild-type ORAI1 channels by increasing the number of STIM1 activation domains that are directly tethered to ORAI1 channels, or by increasing the relative expression of full-length STIM1. Thus, exquisite Ca(2+) selectivity is not an intrinsic property of CRAC channels but rather a tuneable feature that is bestowed on otherwise non-selective ORAI1 channels by STIM1.
