Propagation dynamics of nonlinear chirped optical laser pulses in a two-level medium

We investigate the propagation dynamics of nonlinear chirped optical laser pulses in a two-level medium. For certain chirp strength and chirp width, an incident 2π nonlinear chirped pulse will split into optical precursors and a stable self-induced transparency soliton. This is caused by the particular Fourier spectrum that includes not only central resonant frequency components but also high-frequency and low-frequency sidebands. Moreover, the effects of chirp parameters on the evolution of nonlinear chirped pulses are also discussed.     

弱控制场作用下腔内电磁诱导透明及其线宽研究

基于腔内极化子的量子理论,实验研究了腔内电磁诱导透明(EIT)现象。通过升高铷气室温度,使铷原子数目大量增加。当系统满足集体强耦合条件时,利用弱控制场可实现EIT以及线宽的显著压窄。随着温度的继续升高,耦合效应增强,腔线宽被进一步压窄。     

Selective preparation of the maximum coherent superposition state in four-level atoms

We demonstrate that the maximum coherent superposition state can be selectively prepared using a sequence of pulse pairs in lambda-type atomic systems,with the final level as a doublet.In each pair,the Stocks pulse comes before the pump pulse,with their back edges overlapping.Numerical results indicate that by tuning the interval of the adjacent pulse pairs,the selective maximum coherent superposition state preparation between the initial and one of the final levels can be achieved.The phenomenon is caused by the accumulative property of the pulse sequence.     

Quantum storage of single photons with unknown arrival time and pulse shapes

We present a scheme for the quantum storage of single photons using electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a low-finesse optical cavity, assisted by state-selected spontaneous atomic emission. Mediated by the dark mode of cavity EIT, the destructive quantum interference between the cavity input-output channel and state-selected atomic spontaneous emission leads to strong absorption of single photons with unknown arrival time and pulse shapes. We discuss the application of this phenomenon to photon counting using stored light.     

Negative Refractive Index in a Four-Level Atomic System

We propose a scheme for realizing negative refractive index in a four-level atomic system. It is shown that such a system can simultaneously exhibit negative permittivity and negative permeability in an optical frequency range. Furthermore, by analysing the dispersion property of the left-handed material, we lind that the probe beam can be controlled from superluminal to subluminal or vice versa via choosing appropriate parameters.     

Phase evolution of the reemitted field in the semiconductor quantum wells under the femtosecond pulse train intersubband excitation

Property of the phase of the reemitted field in the semiconductor quantum wells (QWs) excited by femtosecond pulse train is investigated. It is shown that the phase evolution of the reemitted field is controlled by the relative phase between the successive pulses of the incident train. For all the odd pulses excitation, the reemitted field is from out-of-phase to in-phase, then again to out-of-phase with the incident pulses, whereas for all the even pulses excitation, the situation is the opposite, i.e., it is from in-phase to out-of-phase, then again to in-phase with the incident pulses.     

Trichromatic Manipulation of Kerr Nonlinearity in a Three-Level Λ Atomic System

Trichromatic manipulation of Kerr nonlinearity in a three-level ∧ atomic configuration is investigated theoretically. It is Shown that for a weak monochromatic probe field, the enhanced Kerr nonlinearity can be achieved in multiple separate transparent windows due to interference effect of multiple two-photon Raman channels. Furthermore, the property of Kerr nonlinearity can be controlled by the sum of the relative phases of the sideband components of the trichromatic pump field compared to the central component.     

Variation of the absorption and dispersion profiles in a ladder-four-level system

A theoretical research on the variation of the absorption and dispersion profiles and population distribution of each level in a ladder-four-level system driven by two coherent fields has been made. Whether the variation occurs or not depends on the effect of quantum interference, the detuning of the upper coherent field and the separation of the two intermediate levels. A dressed-state analysis is introduced to explain the numerical results.     

High-order harmonic generation in sub-one-cycle regime

We theoretically investigate the high-order harmonic generation from the hydrogen atom driven by the laser pulses with the durations less than the optical cycle.It is found that the switching term of the laser field may have an obvious influence on the cutoff,intensity or plateau structure of the high-order harmonic spectrum.Generally speaking,the switching term can shorten the cutoff of the high-order harmonic spectrum for a relatively longer pulse and extend the cutoff for a relatively shorter pulse.     

集体测量估计量子相干性的性能研究

量子相干性作为资源理论提出后，对它的量化和实验测量的研究一直受到大家广泛的关注。目前已有研究证明集体测量可以提高相干性的测量精度，但在具体实验中实验条件对集体测量估计量子相干性的性能影响还尚不清晰。分别数值模拟了在不同探测效率和资源数条件下集体测量估计相干性的误差，并与其他方法进行了比较。分析发现存在一定参数范围使集体测量的方法在探测效率为60%的情况下比探测效率为90%的态层析的方法更优；此外，随着资源数的增多，集体测量的性能几乎不依赖于量子态和相干性的度量方式，误差均以相同尺度在减小。
