A new method based on anion exchange resin separation and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) detection
is proposed for the determination of inorganic tin species. The result showed that Sn(IV) was quantitatively retained on the
resin when [HCl] = 9.0 mol · L−1, but Sn(II) could not be adsorbed on the resin under the same condition. Thus, a separation of Sn(II) and Sn(IV) has been
realized. When the concentration of NaOH solution was between 2.0–7.0 mol · L−1, Sn(IV) that adsorbed on the resin could be eluated from the resin completely. Meanwhile, under the atmosphere and the nitrogen
states, the translation between Sn(II) and Sn(IV) was investigated. Under the optimal conditions, the detection limit of Sn(IV)
is 0.40 μg · L−1 with RSD of 2.3% (n = 5, c = 2.0 μg · L−1). The proposed method was applied to the speciation analysis of tin in different water samples and the recovery of total

A novel approach for estimating the parameters of a multifrequency signal from discrete samples corrupted by additive noise is presented. An established mathematical model indicates that noise influence on the discrete phase and amplitude spectra is equivalent to additive phase and amplitude noise, respectively. On this basis, a simple algorithm is proposed to estimate the frequency and phase of each sinusoid component by linear regression on the phase spectra of segmented signal blocks, while an amplitude estimator is directly derived from the spectrum of the window function. The circular nature of the phase spectrum is thoroughly explored. Also, an algorithmic scheme is presented. The derived variances of the estimators show that for a noisy signal this approach provides superior accuracy over the traditional approaches. Many applications in image analysis need to distinguish an object from its surroundings. The `snake' method (Kass, 1987) is a well known method to solve such problems by locating the object boundary from an initial plan, but it has the limitation that the distance between the initial plan and the object boundary should be `very small'. The authors present a two-step method, which combines region and contour deformation, to locate the boundary of an object from a designated initial boundary plan. First, they propose a new deformable region model to represent an object, and use the model to locate the boundary of the object by region deformation. This step fills the gap between a fairly rough initial plan and the `snake' method. The resulting boundary is then used as the initial plan of a `snake' method to further refine the boundary.
