Rapid production of monodisperse cross-linked red blood corpuscle-like particles via scalable one-pot dispersion polymerization

Cross-linked polystyrene (PS) particles having red blood corpuscle (RBC)-like shape were synthesized by one-pot dispersion polymerization of styrene with ethanol/water mixture and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the reaction medium and cross-linker, respectively. Monitoring of the reaction showed that RBC-like shape forms due to asymmetric shrinkage of a cross-linked network during the phase separation. In addition, three dimensional phase diagram was generated based on the yielded data that showed that the formation of such unique shape extremely depends on the polarity of the medium and injection time of the cross-linker. In situ synthesis of RBC-like particles, as promising biomaterials in targeted drug delivery and a model for the understanding of the cell behavior, via such fast and high solid content approach makes it to be conducive to subsequent scale up, i.e. potential commercial adoption.     

On nonparametric classification with missing covariates

General procedures are proposed for nonparametric classification in the presence of missing covariates. Both kernel-based imputation as well as Horvitz-Thompson-type inverse weighting approaches are employed to handle the presence of missing covariates. In the case of imputation, it is a certain regression function which is being imputed (and not the missing values). Using the theory of empirical processes, the performance of the resulting classifiers is assessed by obtaining exponential bounds on the deviations of their conditional errors from that of the Bayes classifier. These bounds, in conjunction with the Borel-Cantelli lemma, immediately provide various strong consistency results.     

Synthesis and In Vitro Cytotoxic Activity of Novel Triazole‐Isoxazole Derivatives

New derivatives of triazole‐isoxazole were synthesized through a four‐step reaction starting from various ethyl 4‐aryl‐2,4‐dioxobutanoate derivatives. Finally, all compounds were examined by MTT assays for cytotoxic activity in two human breast cancer cell lines (MCF‐7 and T‐47D).     

Facile and Mild Synthesis and Characterization of Some New Diazo Dyes on the Basis of Schiff Bases in the Presence of Nanocrystalline Magnesium Oxide as a Base Catalyst under Solvent‐free Conditions

In this research, some new diazo dyes including Schiff base have been synthesized by the condensation reaction between ethylenediamine and derivatives of salicylaldehyde containing diazo functional groups in the presence of nanocrystalline magnesium oxide as a solid base catalyst under solvent‐free conditions. Nanocrystalline magnesium oxide has been characterized by XRD, BJH and TEM techniques. The corresponding products have been obtained in excellent yields and high purity. All of the obtained diazo‐Schiff bases are highly colored and can be applicable as useful diazo dyes and characterized by spectroscopy data.     

Selective oxidation of alcohols with H2O2 catalyzed by zinc polyoxometalate immobilized on multi-wall carbon nanotubes modified with ionic liquid

In this work, acid functionalized multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were modified with imidazolium-based ionic liquids. The selective oxidation of various alcohols with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by[PZnMo₂W₉O₃₉]^5-, ZnPOM, supported on ionic liquids-modified with MWCNTs, MWCNTAPIB, is reported. This catalyst[ZnPOM@APIB-MWCNT], was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and FT-IR spectroscopic methods. This heterogeneous catalyst exhibited high stability and reusability in the oxidation reaction without loss of its catalytic performance.
