Eco-friendly synthesis of 2-substituted-2,3-dihydro-4(1H)-quinazolinones in water

2-Substituted-2,3-dihydro-4(1H)-quinazolinones were synthesized in high yield by condensation of 2-anthranilamide with aromatic aldehydes or ketones in refluxing water without catalyst.This protocol has advantages of high yield,simple work-up and environmental friendly procedure.     

Synthesis and characterization of novel conjugated polymers based on 3-cyclobutene-1,2-dione moiety

Three novel conjugated polymers bearing 3,4-bis（4-hexylthiophen-2-yl）-3-cyclobutene-1,2-dione unit in their main chain have been synthesized successfully in good yields through Suzuki or Stille coupling reaction.Their molecular structures have been confirmed by FT-IR,¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR.All these copolymers exhibit broad and strong absorption bands in UV-vis region,and their optical band gaps are calculated to be 1.6-2.0 eV.suggesting that they have good coverage with the solar spectrum.These polymers have good thermostability and solubility in common organic solvents.Moreover,all these objective macromolecules possess high electron affinity of～3.8 eV determined from cyclic voltammetry measurement,implying that they are potential n-type polymeric photovoltaic materials.     

The first catalytic asymmetric addition of diethylzinc to aldehyde promoted by chiral thiourea

A series of C₂-symmetric and asymmetric chiral thiourea derivatives were synthesized from commercial L-phenylalanine.All of the new compounds have been fully characterized by IR,¹H NMR,¹³C NMR,MS spectra and elemental analyses.The chiral thioureas were used as chiral ligands in the catalytic enantioselective ethylation of aldehydes with diethylzinc,the corresponding sec-alcohols were gained with excellent enantioselectivities（up to 87.1%ee） and high yields（up to 76.7%） after the conditions were optimized.     

Synthesis and bioactivity of novel nitric oxide-releasing ursolic acid derivatives

A series of furoxan-based novel nitric oxide-donating ursolic acid(UA) derivatives(7a-f) were synthesized,and their cytotoxic activities against HepG2 cells in vitro were evaluated by MTT method.It was found that 7a-d and 7f showed more potent cytotoxic activities than control 5-fluorouracil and UA.     

Synthesis and bioactivity of novel coumarin derivatives containing(E)-methyl 2-(methoxyimino)-2-phenylacetates

Ten coumarin derivatives containing(E)-methyl 2-(methoxyimino)-2-phenylacetate were synthesized and bioassayed.The compounds were identified by IR,~1H NMR and elemental analyses.The test results indicated that compound 5j(R~1 is methyl and R~2 is n-C_6H_(13)) was the optimal structure in this paper with good fungicidal activity against CDM(85%) at 6.25 mg/L concentration.

Biodegradable poly(p‐dioxanone) reinforced and toughened by organo‐modified vermiculite

Poly(p‐dioxanone) (PPDO)/vermiculite (VMT) nanocomposites with exfoliated structure were prepared successfully by in situ intercalative polymerization of p‐dioxanone (PDO) in the presence of organo‐modified vermiculite (OVMT) with the aid of ultrasonic action. The nano‐structure of the nanocomposites was established using X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations. The investigation of crystallization behavior by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM) proved that exfoliated OVMT platelets acted as a template for spherulite growth. The thermal stability of nanocomposites was enhanced than that of pure PPDO. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) indicated nanoscale OVMT platelets restricted the motion of PPDO segments, which benefitted the increase of storage and loss modulus. The tensile properties showed that nanocomposites were reinforced and toughened significantly by the addition of nanoscale OVMT platelets. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
