In this paper, we describe a method for increasing the external efficiency of polymer light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) by coupling out waveguided light with Bragg gratings. We numerically model the waveguide modes in a typical LED structure and demonstrate how optimizing layer thicknesses and reducing waveguide absorption can enhance the grating outcoupling. The gratings were created by a soft‐lithography technique that minimizes changes to the conventional LED structure. Using one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional gratings, we were able to increase the forward‐directed emission by 47 % and 70 %, respectively, and the external quantum efficiency by 15 % and 25 %.  相似文献

A model is developed for an end-pumped quasi-three-level laser with population in the lower laser level at equilibrium such as for transitions to the manifolds4I9/2in Nd3+,4I15/2in Er3+,5I8in Ho3+and3H6in Tm3+. It is shown that the effect of residual lower laser level population on laser operation can be treated as a saturable loss. Room temperature operation on the4F3/2-4I9/2transition in Nd:YAG under CW dye laser pumping has been demonstrated with a threshold as low as 11.5 mW incident power and a slope efficiency of 7 percent with 0.3 percent output coupling. Performance is limited by the low output coupling and diffraction loss.  相似文献

The effect of misalignment on the electrical properties of anisotropic conductive film (ACF) joints is investigated in this work. It is found that along with the increase of misalignment, the connection resistance of ACF joints increases. When the misalignment in x-direction is less than 5 μm, the increase rate of connection resistance is quite large. Then, along with the severity of misalignment, the increase rate becomes smaller. Finally, when the misalignment is close to 20 μm, the increase rate rises again. The Holm's electric contact theory is used for understanding the connection resistance variation. On the other hand, with the increase of misalignment in x-direction, the insulation resistance between ACF joints decreases. If the misalignment exceeded 10 μm, the decrease is prominent for the Ni particle ACF joints. This phenomenon can be explained by the effect of dielectric damage of the epoxy.Computer programs are also developed to calculate the variation of the probability of open and shorting after misalignment and predicate the maximum misalignment tolerance. The results show that the open and shorting probability increase abruptly after misalignment. On the view of pad parameters, the open probability is mainly related to the pad area, while the pads gap is critical to the shorting probability. Large pads gap (small pad width) can reduce the shorting probability obviously. On the other hand, enlarging the pad area by increasing pad length decreases the open probability significantly. So comparing to square shape pad, rectangle shape pad can reduce the failure probability greatly.  相似文献

We introduce a dual-mode multiuser detector that dynamically switches its detection mode between matched-filter and decorrelator operations based on the channel characteristics. This detector significantly reduces the overall computational requirement while maintaining similar performance as that of the decorrelator. The switching mechanism of our dual-mode detector is designed by exploiting the performance-complexity tradeoff between the decorrelator and the matched-filter. Exposed pad packages were introduced in the late 1980s and early 1990s because of their excellent thermal and electrical performance. Despite these advantages, the exposed pad packages experience a lot of thermo-hygro-mechanical related reliability problems during qualification and testing. Examples are die lift, which occurs predominantly after moisture sensitivity level conditions, and die-attach to leadframe delamination leading to downbond stitch breaks during temperature cycling. In this chapter, nonlinear finite element (FE) models using fracture mechanics based J-integral calculations are used to assess the reliability problems of the exposed pad package family. Using the parametric FE models any geometrical and material effects can be explored to their impact on the occurrence diepad delamination, and dielift. For instance the impact of diepad size is found to be of much less importance as the impact of die thickness is. Using the fracture mechanics approach, the starting location for the delamination from thermo-hygro-mechanical point of view is deducted. The results indicate that when diepad delamination is present, cracks are likely to grow beneath the die and dielift will occur. The interaction between dielift and other failure modes, such as lifted ball bonds, are not found to be very significant. The FE models are combined with simulation-based optimization methods to deduct design guidelines for optimal reliability of the exposed pad family.  相似文献

Ethylisobutylaluminoxane (EBAO) and its analogues were synthesized by a reaction between an triethylaluminum (Et3Al)/triisobutylaluminum (i‐Bu3Al) mixture and 4‐fluorobenzeneboronic acid, phenylboronic acid, or n‐butaneboronic acid and subsequent hydrolysis with water. They were used as cocatalysts in ethylene polymerization catalyzed by an iron complex {[(ArN?C(Me))2C5H3N]FeCl2, where Ar is 2,6‐diisopropylphenyl}. Polyethylene with a high molecular weight and a narrow molecular weight distribution was prepared with modified EBAOs, and the performance of the iron complex at high polymerization temperatures was greatly improved. The activators for the iron complex also affected the polymerization activity and the molecular weight of the resultant polyethylene. It was suggested that the stereo and electronic effects of the substitute groups of aluminoxane contributed to the improved performance of the new activators. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Based on the complexation between proteins and Cu(II) coupled with the time-resolved chemiluminescence (CL) technique, a highly sensitive and quantitative assay for measuring proteins in solution is described. The complexes of proteins with Cu(II) have a strongly catalytic effect on the luminol-H2O2 CL reaction. Because the CL emission produced by the complexes is much more long-lived than that by Cu(II), the CL signals originating from proteins can be easily identified and measured with a time-resolved technique. On this basis, bovine albumin fraction V (BAF V) can be quantitatively determined in the range of 0.01 - 5.0 microg/ml with a detection limit of 5.8 ng/ml. The results show that the proposed assay exhibits a small variation in the response values for the same amount of different proteins, as compared to the Lowry as well as Bradford assays. The CL assay has also been studied for the detection of immobilized proteins.  相似文献
