Proof of a conjecture on irredundance perfect graphs

Let ir(G) and γ(G) be the irredundance number and the domination number of a graph G, respectively. A graph G is called irredundance perfect if ir(H)=γ(H), for every induced subgraph H of G. Structural proteins of the cytoskeleton as markers for determining tumor histogenesis

The data of literature about the structure of cytoskeleton proteins in the normal and malignant cells are analyzed. The possibilities of using a specific polyclonal serum and a monoclonal antibody for a more precise ascertainment of the origin and diagnostic of tumours are discussed. The intermediate and active filaments may be used as a new class of histochemical markers. Laminin, the protein of basement membranes, probably, plays an important role in metastatic spreading.     

Gluon jets from quarkonia

A detailed analysis is made within perturbative QCD of the decays into gluon jets of P-wave and S-wave quarkonia (J^PC = 0⁺⁺, 1⁺⁺, 2⁺⁺, 1^+? and 0^?+, 1^??). For all those states we compute to leading non-trivial order in α_s the conventional fraction f(?, δ) of the jet-like hadronic final states, characterized by the back-to-back cone of half angle δ, in which all but a small fraction ? of the total energy is emitted. To the same order we give also the average values of thrust momenta and spherocity distributions.     

实验研究二维圆柱后尾流中涡脱落的有序和混沌现象

本文给出了在Re=50—400范围内二维圆柱后涡脱落的有序和混沌现象的一些初步实验结果。涡脱落由有序到混沌的转捩发生在Re=184.6—193.5之间,但是它不是通过准周期途径。在涡脱落频率与Re数的关系曲线上有两个间断。在Re=70处的间断可能对应于倾斜涡脱落模式的变化,在Re≈193.5处的第二间断对应于由有序到混沌状态的转捩。     

Half-bridge inverter using 4H-SiC gate turn-off thyristors

This paper reports on the first demonstration of a half-bridge power inverter constructed from silicon carbide gate turn-off thyristors (GTOs) operated in the conventional GTO mode. This circuit was characterized with input bus voltages of up to 600 VDC and 2 A (peak current density of 540 A/cm²) with resistive loads using a pulse-width modulated switching frequency of 2 kHz. We discuss the implications of the thyristor's electrical characteristics and the circuit topology on the overall operation of the half-bridge circuit. This work has determined the conservative critical rate of rise value of the off-state voltage to be 200 V/μs in these devices     

Black-hole horizon and metric singularity at the brane separating two sliding superfluids

An analogue of a black hole can be realized in the low-temperature laboratory. The horizon can be constructed for “relativistic” ripplons (surface waves) living on the brane. The brane is represented by the interface between two superfluid liquids, ³He-A and ³He-B, sliding along each other without friction. A similar experimental arrangement was recently used for the observation and investigation of the Kelvin-Helmholtz type of instability in superfluids [1]. The shear-flow instability in superfluids is characterized by two critical velocities. The lowest threshold measured in recent experiments [1] corresponds to the appearance of the ergoregion for ripplons. In the modified geometry, this will give rise to the black-hole event horizon in the effective metric experienced by ripplons. In the region behind the horizon, the brane vacuum is unstable due to interaction with the higher-dimensional world of bulk superfluids. The time of the development of instability can be made very long at low temperature. This will allow us to reach and investigate the second critical velocity—the proper Kelvin-Helmholtz instability threshold. The latter corresponds to the singularity inside the black hole, where the determinant of the effective metric becomes infinite.     

Navier-Stokes approximation and problems of the Chapman-Enskog projection for kinetic equations

The purpose of this paper is to investigate problems of the Navier-Stokes approximation to kinetic equations in terms of the so-called Chapman-Enskog projection. One considers properties of the Chapman-Enskog projection for the Cauchy problem for moment approximations of the kinetic equation and primarily the Chapman-Enskog projection for the Boltzmann-Peierls kinetic equation. The existence of the Chapman-Enskog projection for the Cauchy problem is proved for the phase space of conservative variables (phenomena of nonlinear diffusion) and for the phase space of physical variables (the second sound projection). __________ Translated from Trudy Seminara imeni I. Conformational analysis of dipeptide‐derived polyisocyanides

The conformational properties of polymers derived from isocyanodipeptides have been investigated with a combination of model calculations, X‐ray diffraction, and circular dichroism spectroscopy. Depending on the configuration of the side chains, defined arrays of hydrogen bonds along the polymeric backbone are formed. This leads to a well‐defined conformation as, for example, expressed in the formation of lyotropic liquid‐crystalline phases and increased helical stability. Upon the disruption of the hydrogen bonds by a strong acid, a less well‐defined macromolecular conformation is observed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Low-Power VLSI Implementation of the Inner Receiver for OFDM-Based WLAN Systems

In this paper, we propose low-power designs for the synchronizer and channel estimator units of the Inner Receiver in wireless local area network systems. The objective of the work is the optimization, with respect to power, area, and latency, of both the signal processing algorithms themselves and their implementation. Novel circuit design strategies have been employed to realize optimal hardware and power efficient architectures for the fast Fourier transform, arc tangent computation unit, numerically controlled oscillator, and the decimation filters. The use of multiple clock domains and clock gating reduces the power consumption further. These blocks have been integrated into an experimental digital baseband processor for the IEEE 802.11a standard implemented in the 0.25mum- 5-metal layer BiCMOS technology from Institute for High Performance Microelectronics.     

Study of thermal effects and self-heating phenomena in planar power SOI MOS transistors

Heat removal problems, thermal effects, and self-heating phenomena occurring during operation of planar power SOI MOS transistors are considered. Using device-technological simulating methods, the transistor characteristics and safe operation range were studied. It was shown that limitations of the safe operation range are mostly associated with structure self-heating rather than with the parasitic bipolar transistor.
