Molecular Recognition of Nucleic Acid Bases in Water by Hydrogen Bonding of Poly(vinyldiaminotriazine)

Poly(2-vinyl-4,6-diamino-1,3,5-triazine) efficiently binds nucleic acid bases and nucleosides in water by using complementary hydrogen bonding. The binding activity decreases in the order: U, T > A C, G. The corresponding monomer shows virtually no activity, indicating a predominant role of polymer effect for the molecular recognition in water.     

Synthesis of spirodienones by intramolecular ipso-cyclization of N-methoxy-(4-halogenophenyl)amides using [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene in trifluoroethanol

Spirodienones bearing the 1-azaspiro[4.5]decane ring system have been synthesized from N-methoxy-(4-halogenophenyl)amides by the intramolecular ipso attack of a nitrenium ion generated with [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene in trifluoroethanol.     

Simultaneous application of two or more supported liquid-phase organometallic catalysts: heterogeneous multifunctional reaction systems

Using the form of supported liquid-phase catalysts, two or more homogeneous catalysts can simultaneously be used with retaining their own activities and taking the advantage of catalyst-product separation and catalyst recycling.     

Circular Dichroism Study of the Inclusion-Dissociation Behavior of Complexes between a Molecular Nanotube and Azobenzene Substituted Linear Polymers

We have investigated the inclusion properties of molecular nanotubes composed ofcrosslinked -cyclodextrin. Induced circular dichroism was used to probe theformation and dissociation of complexes between the nanotubes and azobenzenemodified linear polymers. The polymer was poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), either withor without a hydrophobic alkyl chain.It was found that the inclusion complex betweenthe nanotubes and polymers formed at room temperature, and that the polymers dissociated from the nanotubes with increasing temperature. Further, the polymer with hydrophobic alkyl chain was bound inside the nanotube more strongly and dissociated more abruptly with increasing temperature than its hydrophilic counterpart as expected theoretically.     

Asymmetric synthesis of axially chiral benzamides and anilides by enantiotopic lithiation of prochiral arene chromium complexes

Axially chiral benzamides and anilides were prepared by enantiotopic lithiation at the distinguished benzylic methyl of prochiral tricarbonylchromium complexes of N,N-diethyl 2,6-dimethylbenzamide (1) and N-methyl-N-acyl 2,6-dimethylaniline (14 and 21) with a chiral lithium amide base followed by electrophilic substitution in good yields with high optical purity. The resulting axially chiral chromium-complexed benzamides and anilides were oxidized under air to give chromium-free axially chiral benzamides and anilides in an enantiomerically active form without axial bond rotation at room temperature.     

Two new tetranuclear complexes of the macrocyclic oxamide [MCu3] (M = Cd, Mn, macrocyclic oxamide = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotradecanne-2,3-dione): syntheses, spectra and magnetic properties

Two new tetranuclear complexes of macrocyclic oxamide [Cd(CuL)₃](NO₃)₂·2.5H₂O 1, [Mn(CuL)₃(OH)₂](ClO₄)₂·Mn(H₂O)₆·4.5H₂O 2 (L = 1,4,8,11-tatraazacyclotradecanne-2,3-dione) have been synthesized, structurally characterized and preliminary investigated by magnetic studies. The structures of the title complexes consist of a tetranuclear units MCu₃ (M = Cd, Mn), the packing diagram shows two-dimensional and three-dimensional system through intermolecular weak interactions. The temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibilities of complex 2 were analyzed by an approximate treatment leading to J = −33 cm⁻¹, g_Cu = 2.10, g_Mn = 1.95 indicating antiferromagnetic exchange between Cu(II) and Mn(II) ions.     

Ion-exchanger colorimetry-II microdetermination of chromium in natural waters

Ion-exchanger colorimetry for chromium(VI) with 1,5-diphenylcarbohydrazide has been developed for the determination of chromium at mug/l. concentrations in natural water samples. About 90% of the chromium(VI) in a 1-litre sample solution is concentrated in 200-400 mesh Dowex 50W-X4 resin within half an hour. It is possible to obtain higher sensitivity by employing a larger amount of sample solution. Total chromium can be determined by oxidizing chromium(III) to chromium(VI) with ceric sulphate.     

Synthesis of well-defined polymers with protected silanol groups by atom transfer radical polymerization and their use for the fabrication of polymeric nanoparticles

Copper-mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of a protected silanol group-holding methacrylate, methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MOPS), was investigated. In a dry condition using carefully distilled solvent and monomer, the polymerization proceeded in a living fashion providing a low-polydispersity polymer with a predicted molecular weight. The ATRP in conjunction with the sequential monomer addition of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and MOPS afforded a block copolymer of the type PMMA-b-poly(MMA-r-MOPS). The heat treatment of a solution of the block copolymer in the presence of a catalytic amount of ammonia gave a polymeric core-shell nanoparticle with a shell of PMMA moieties and a core of the poly(MMA-r-MOPS) blocks cross-linked via the condensation of the trimethoxysilane groups of the MOPS moieties.     

Synthetic study of optically active 3-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane-2,6,8-tricarboxylic acid

Synthesis of (1R,2S,5S,6R,8S)-3-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane-2,6,8-tricarboxylic acid (2) from trans-4-hydroxy-L-proline (5) was attempted. A Diels-Alder reaction of 3,4-dehydroproline derivative 9 and cyclopentadiene afforded a single stereoisomer 11. The Diels-Alder adduct was smoothly converted to the hydrochloride of 2 (24) via RuO(4) oxidation. Although some racemization of the material or product was observed during the synthetic processes, the amino acid 24 proved to be optically pure.     

Artificial model for cystathionine β-synthase: efficient β-replacement reaction with thiols employing a novel pyridoxal model compound having an imidazole function

As a second-generation pyridoxal model compound for cystathionine β-synthase, we designed a novel model compound having an ionophore function and an imidazole function, application of which to the β-replacement reaction with various thiols smoothly took place to give S-substituted cysteines. Peptides having a serine-O-carbonate residue at the N-terminal position were also converted to the corresponding peptides having an S-substituted cysteine residue under the catalytic conditions of the novel pyridoxal model compound.
