Study of photopolymer. XVII. Synthesis of novel photosensitive polymers with pendant photosensitive group and photosensitizer groups

Novel photosensitive polymers with pendant photosensitive group, such as cinnamic ester, and photosensitizer groups, such as N-carbamoyl-p-nitroaniline and N-carbamoly-4-nitro-1-naphthylamine, were synthesized from radical copolymerizations of (2-cinnamoyloxy)ethylmethacrylate with photosensitizer monomers, such as p-nitrophenylmethacrylamide and 4-nitro-1-na-phthylmethacrylamide, by using asobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) in benzene and from the copolymerizations of (2-hydroxy)ethylmethacrylate or (2-hydroxy)ethylacrylate with photosensitizer monomers by using AIBN in DMF. This procedure was followed by condensation reactions of the copolymers with cinnamoyl chloride with pyridine as HCL acceptor in the same reaction flask. The photoreactivities of the polymers obtained were influenced by the concentration of photosensitive group and photosensitizer groups and their ratio in the polymer matrix. In addition, the photosensitivity of cinnamic ester groups attached to a soft polymer segment was higher than that of cinnamic ester group attached to a hard polymer segment when these polymers had the same pendant N-carbamoyl-p-nitroaniline group as photosensitizer. Furthermore, the spacer length between the polymer chain and photosensitizer group was important for increasing the photoreactivity of the photosensitive group in the polymers with pendant cinnamic ester and N-carbamoyl-p-nitroaniline groups.     

Br-radical-mediated [3+2] annulation: synthesis of 2-bromomethyl-substituted alkenylcyclopentanes by the reaction of alkenylcyclopropanes with allyl bromides under photo irradiation

A radical chain addition of allyl bromides 2 to alkenylcyclopropanes 1 resulted in [3+2] annulation to give 2-bromomethylalkenylcyclopentanes 3 in good yields(16 examples). In this reaction, two kinetically fast radical reactions, cyclopropylcarbinyl radical-ring-opening and 5-exo-radical cyclization, preceded the β-fragmentation of a bromine radical to make the formal cycloaddition possible.     

Sound propagation in soundproofing casement windows

Casement windows consisted of two wooden frames that can be opened and closed at various angles are widely used in developing countries with tropical climates. However, an annual increase in a number of motorcycles and automobiles and traffic noise level these countries have rendered these windows to be useless. In this paper, we present a model for manufacturing windows which are suitable for the developing tropical countries. These windows are capable of ventilating, regulating sunlight, protecting against coldness, and reducing traffic noise and fumes from motor vehicles. The ventilation and soundproofing unit hold an importance place in the design of the windows and are calculated using the wave equation and observations of higher-order mode waves. In order to maximize the soundproofing ability, the selection of size and placement of input and output openings in such a way that would minimize the effects of higher-order mode waves are considered in details.     

TfOH-promoted transformation from 2-alkynylphenyl isothiocyanates to quinoline-2-thiones or indoles

A variety of 4-arylquinoline-2-thiones and 3-arylthieno[2,3-b]indoles were synthesized in high yields via TfOH-promoted tandem Friedel-Crafts alkenylation-cyclization reactions of 2-alkynylphenyl isothiocyanates.     

Cassaine diterpenoid dimers isolated from Erythrophleum succirubrum with TRAIL-resistance overcoming activity

Activity-guided fractionation of Erythrophleum succirubrum for TRAIL resistance-overcoming activity led to the isolation of four new cassaine diterpenoid dimers, named erythrophlesins A-D (1-4). Their structures were elucidated by spectral data to show that they have an unsymmetrical dimeric structure through an ester bond between two cassaine diterpenoids. These new compounds were revealed to have a significant reversal effect on TRAIL resistance in human gastric adenocarcinoma (AGS) cells.     

Spectral parameters and Hamaker constants of silicon hydride compounds and organic solvents

Cyclopentasilane (CPS) and polydihydrosilane, which consist of hydrogen and silicon only, are unique materials that can be used to produce intrinsic silicon film in a liquid process, such as spin coating or an ink-jet method. Wettability and solubility of general organic solvents including the above can be estimated by Hamaker constants, which are calculated according to the Lifshitz theory. In order to calculate a Hamaker constant by the simple spectral method (SSM), it is necessary to obtain absorption frequency and function of oscillator strength in the ultraviolet region. In this report, these physical quantities were obtained by means of an optical method. As a result of examination of the relation between molecular structures and ultraviolet absorption frequencies, which were obtained from various liquid materials, it was concluded that ultraviolet absorption frequencies became smaller as electrons were delocalized. In particular, the absorption frequencies were found to be very small for CPS and polydihydrosilane due to σ-conjugate of their electrons. The Hamaker constants of CPS and polydihydrosilane were successfully calculated based on the obtained absorption frequency and function of oscillator strength.     

Experimental probe for hyperconjugative resonance contribution in stabilizing the singlet state of 2,2-dialkoxy-1,3-diyls: Regioselective 1,2-oxygen migration

A detailed study of the regioselectivity of 1,2-oxygen migration was conducted using the unsymmetrically substituted singlet 2,2-dialkoxy-1,3-diarylcyclopentane-1,3-diyls 5. The alkoxy group selectively migrates to the electron-donating p-methoxyphenyl-substituted carbon. The regioselective migration of oxygen clearly indicates a hyperconjugative resonance structure, that is, zwitterionic characteristics, in singlet 2,2-dialkoxy-1,3-diyls. This represents the first attempt to experimentally probe the contribution of hyperconjugation to stabilizing the singlet state.     

Construction of double-stranded metallosupramolecular polymers with a controlled helicity by combination of salt bridges and metal coordination

We describe the construction of the first double-stranded metallosupramolecular helical polymers. We designed and synthesized a supramolecular duplex comprised of complementary m-terphenyl-based strands bearing a chiral amidine or achiral carboxylic acid together with two pyridine groups at the four ends. Supramolecular polymerization of the duplex with cis-PtPh2(DMSO)2 in 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane produced the double-stranded metallosupramolecular polymer with a controlled helicity of which the two complementary metallostrands are intertwined through the amidinium-carboxylate salt bridges. The structures and hydrodynamic dimensions of the metallosupramolecular polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, diffusion-ordered NMR, dynamic light scattering, absorption, and CD measurements. The polymeric structure was also visualized by atomic force microscopy.     

Total synthesis of pteridic acids A and B

Pteridic acid A (1) is a spirocyclic octaketide produced by the phytoepiphytic actinomycete Streptomyces hygroscopicus TP-A0451 and possesses potent plant-growth-promoting activity comparable to that of indole-3-acetic acid. The enantioselective total synthesis of this natural product was achieved by employing the Sn(OTf)(2)-mediated Evans aldol reaction and the Fukuyama acetylenic coupling reaction as the key C--C bond-forming steps producing 1 through a 14-step sequence in 22 % overall yield from a known oxazolidinone derivative. MgBr(2)-mediated equilibration of an anomerically favored spirocyclic intermediate used for the synthesis of 1 brought about partial epimerization of the spirocenter to give the corresponding anomerically disfavored epimer, which was converted into pteridic acid B (11-epi-1), another plant-growth promoter of the same microbial origin.
