Benzimidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline dimers as potential antitumor agents

The 6-substituted benzimidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline 1 is a lead structure from our DNA intercalator program and is cytotoxic to the human colon cancer tumor line HT-29 with an inhibitory concentration 50, IC₅₀ of 4.00 μM. In order to try and improve the limited cytotoxicity of this class of compound we prepared a series consisting of two benzimidazo[1,2-c]quinazoline moieties linked by a polyalkylamino bridge, of different length and substitution. The compound with the -NH-(CH₂)₃-N(CH₃)-(CH₂)₃-NH-bridge had an inhibitory concentration 50, IC₅₀ of 0.5 μM. When tested in vivo, however, no clear anti-tumor activity was produced in the human breast cancer tumor line MX-1 or the human melanoma tumor line LOX, human tumor xenografts models.     

SHADOC: a multi‐agent model to tackle viability of irrigated systems

The viability of irrigated systems in the Senegal River Valley is being brought into question today due to their underutilization. We assume that their viability depends largely on the way their different components behave and interact. We therefore sought to examine in greater depth today's knowledge of the structure of these systems and activities performed within them. This led to the development of a multiagent system model, a kind of virtual irrigated system, with a special focus on rules in use for access to credit, water allocation and cropping season assessment as well as organization and coordination of farmers. The purpose of this paper is to show how this kind of tool is relevant to the study of irrigated systems' viability. As an example it is used to examine the influence of existing social networks on the viability of irrigated systems.     

Measurement of the positive muon anomalous magnetic moment to 0.7 ppm

A higher precision measurement of the anomalous g value, a(mu)=(g-2)/2, for the positive muon has been made at the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchrotron, based on data collected in the year 2000. The result a(mu(+))=11 659 204(7)(5)x10(-10) (0.7 ppm) is in good agreement with previous measurements and has an error about one-half that of the combined previous data. The present world average experimental value is a(mu)(expt)=11 659 203(8)x10(-10) (0.7 ppm).     

Phase Transition Models in Atmospheric Dynamics

Abstract From both the theoretical and numerical viewpoints, we study a system of differential inclusions describing the evolution of the temperature and the specific humidity distributions in a system of moist air. We allow the so-called saturation concentration parameter to depend on the temperature, and thus we consider more general and interesting phase-change effects than the ones addressed in [2].     

New acid/base salts as co‐catalysts for the organocatalyzed ring opening polymerization of lactide

(R)‐(+)‐binaphathyl‐diyl hydrogen phosphate (BNPH)/ diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec‐7‐ene (DBU) and (1R)‐(?)?10‐camphorsulfonic acid (CSA)/4‐dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) acid–base salts were synthesized and assessed for the ring‐opening polymerization of rac‐lactide. They were found to be inactive toward the polymerization in the presence of a protic initiator. When used in combination with a base such as DBU or DMAP and a protic initiator, these acid/base conjugates led to well‐controlled polymerization in mild conditions (D_M < 1.1 in all cases). With DBU, the presence of the salt was found to lead to narrower molecular weight distributions than those obtained using the base alone, and to prevent undesirable transesterification reactions occurring at the end of the reaction. An increase in activity was observed using the salts in combination with DMAP as compared with DMAP alone, together with an improvement of the control over the molecular weight. The results were discussed on the basis of ¹H nuclear magnetic resonance analyzes including acid/base equilibria involving the use of two different bases. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Continuity of solutions of a problem in the calculus of variations

We study the problem of minimizing ${\int_{\Omega} L(x,u(x),Du(x))\,{\rm d}x}$ over the functions ${u\in W^{1,p}(\Omega)}$ that assume given boundary values ${\phi}$ on ???. We assume that L(x, u, Du)?=?F(Du)?+?G(x, u) and that F is convex. We prove that if ${\phi}$ is continuous and ?? is convex, then any minimum u is continuous on the closure of ??. When ?? is not convex, the result holds true if F(Du)?=?f(|Du|). Moreover, if ${\phi}$ is Lipschitz continuous, then u is H?lder continuous.     

Preparation,analyses et etudes thermochimiques du tetrafluorure de tellure

Tellurium Tétrafluoride has been prepared and various analysis (chemical, thermal, Xray) have been performed. Heat of fusion (δH_fus = 3,02 Kcal.mol^-1), and calorific capacity of solid TeF₄ from 298 to 402°K (Cp_s = 30 cal.K^-1. mol^-1) and of liquide TeF₄ at 423°K (Cp₁ = 31, 1 cal.K.^-1.mol^-1) have been determined Enthalpic values are given.     

Local Lipschitz continuity of solutions to a problem in the calculus of variations

This article studies the problem of minimizing ∫_ΩF(Du)+G(x,u) over the functions uW^1,1(Ω) that assume given boundary values on ∂Ω. The function F and the domain Ω are assumed convex. In considering the same problem with G=0, and in the spirit of the classical Hilbert–Haar theory, Clarke has introduced a new type of hypothesis on the boundary function : the lower (or upper) bounded slope condition. This condition, which is less restrictive than the classical bounded slope condition of Hartman, Nirenberg and Stampacchia, is satisfied if is the restriction to ∂Ω of a convex (or concave) function. We show that for a class of problems in which G(x,u) is locally Lipschitz (but not necessarily convex) in u, the lower bounded slope condition implies the local Lipschitz regularity of solutions.
