A stability analysis of metal nanowires shows that a Jahn-Teller deformation breaking cylindrical symmetry can be energetically favorable, leading to stable nanowires with elliptic cross sections. The sequence of stable cylindrical and elliptical nanowires allows for a consistent interpretation of experimental conductance histograms for alkali metals, including both the electronic shell and supershell structures. It is predicted that for gold, elliptical nanowires are even more likely to form since their eccentricity is smaller than for alkali metals. The existence of certain metastable superdeformed nanowires is also predicted.  相似文献

A fast spin echo two-point Dixon (fast 2PD) technique was developed for efficient T2-weighted imaging with uniform water and fat separation. The technique acquires two interleaved fast spin echo images with water and fat in-phase and 180° out-of-phase, respectively, and generates automatically separate water and fat images for each slice. The image reconstruction algorithm uses an improved and robust region-growing scheme for phase correction and achieves consistency in water and fat identification between different slices by exploiting the intrinsic correlation between the complex images from two neighboring slices. To further lower the acquisition time to that of a regular fast spin echo acquisition with a single signal average, we combined the fast 2PD technique with sensitivity encoding (SENSE). Phantom experiments show that the fast 2PD and SENSE are complementary in scan efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In vivo data from scanning of clinical patients demonstrate that T2-weighted imaging with uniform and consistent fat separation, including breath-hold abdominal examinations, can be readily performed with the fast 2PD technique or its combination with SENSE.  相似文献

We describe a waveguide to thin-film microstrip transition for high-performance submillimetre wave and teraherz applications. The proposed constant-radius probe couples thin-film microstrip line, to full-height rectangular waveguide with better than 99% efficiency (VSWR 1.20) and 45% fractional bandwidth. Extensive HFSS simulations, backed by scale-model measurements, are presented in the paper. By selecting the substrate material and probe radius, any real impedance between 15-60 can be achieved. The radial probe gives significantly improved performance over other designs discussed in the literature. Although our primary application is submillimetre wave superconducting mixers, we show that membrane techniques should allow broad-band waveguide components to be constructed for the THz frequency range.  相似文献

The structured design of cryptographically good s-boxes   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1  
We describe a design procedure for the s-boxes of private key cryptosystems constructed as substitution-permutation networks (DES-like cryptosystems). Our procedure is proven to construct s-boxes which are bijective, are highly nonlinear, possess the strict avalanche criterion, and have output bits which act (vitually) independently when any single input bit is complemented. Furthermore, our procedure is very efficient: we have generated approximately 60 such 4 × 4 s-boxes in a few seconds of CPU time on a SUN workstation.This work was partially supported by a grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.  相似文献

The use of capillary column gas chromatography for drug screening in forensic toxicology has become increasingly widespread. Screening procedures however are often lengthy and unsuitable for rapid confirmatory or quantitative applications. In order to develop a practical scheme for confirmatory/quantitative analysis, we have optimized a series of temperature profiles to allow the rapid quantitative determination of a wide range of acid/neutral and basic drugs in extracts from post mortem fluids and tissue. The appropriate profile is selected based on the retention index on a standard crosslinked methyl silicone column used to screen extracts. The use of a 5% phenyl methyl silicone phase allows complementary identification, and allows the separation of some pairs of compounds with identical retention indices in the screning procedure.  相似文献
