VEGFR-2 targeted cellular delivery of doxorubicin by gold nanoparticles for potential antiangiogenic therapy

We report a novel gold nanobioconjugate system that achieves targeted delivery of the small molecule drug doxorubicin to endothelial cells using anti-VEGFR-2 antibody conjugated gold nanoparticles (GNPs). The reported nanobioconjugate system combines the inherent ability of GNPs to undergo high levels of derivatization with the precision of antibody recognition of a cell surface antigen. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) confirmed intracellular presence of the GNPs. Using a VEGFR-2 expressing cell line and a cell line that is negative for the receptor, in combination with competition assay we established the cell specific targeted delivery of the nanobioconjugate. The nanobioconjugate system described here may have potential drug delivery applications for antiangiogenic cancer therapy.     

A facile strategy for the fabrication of uniform CdS nanowires with high yield and its controlled morphological growth with the assistance of PEG in hydrothermal route

A series of novel wurtzite cadmium sulphide (CdS) nanowires with uniform diameter were synthesized by using a rapid and simple solvothermal route. CdS nano structures with certain morphology could be selectively produced by only varying the concentration of poly ethylene glycol (PEG) as a surfactant in the reaction system with cadmium acetate, sulphur powder and ethelynediamine (EDA). We extensively studied UV-vis absorption spectra, photoluminescence spectra after confirming CdS nanowires with diameter 24-25 nm and length ranging up to several nano meters by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Therefore we may definitely propose a new formation mechanism of CdS nanowires assisted by PEG with its illustrating optical properties.     

Synthesis of novel dihydrooxazine and oxazoline based sugar hybrids from sugar azides

A convenient one-step method for the synthesis of novel dihydrooxazine and oxazoline based sugar hybrids is reported starting from the readily accessible sugar azides and aldehydes. We have used Aubé’s protocol to achieve this transformation. The resulting glycoconjugates could be used to increase the diversity on the sugar backbone and may find applications as potential glycomimetics and in drug discovery.

On three dimensional transient wave motions on a running stream

Summary This paper considers the three-dimensional transient wave motions in a fluid produced by a moving oscillatory disturbance of frequency acting on the free surface of the fluid. The problem is treated as an initial value problem and is solved by the joint Laplace-Fourier transform method combined with the asymptotic treatment for the double Fourier inversion integrals. The explicit representation of the steady state as well as the transient solution of the problem is presented. It is shown that the ultimate steady is set up in the limit. A brief discussion on the principal behaviour of the wave motions is made.

Sommario Si considerano i moti ondosi transitori tridimensionali prodotti in un fluido da una eccitazione oscillatoria, in movimento, di frequenza che agisce sulla superficie libera. Il problema è trattato come problema di valori iniziali e viene risolto con il metodo della trasformata congiunta di Laplace-Fourier combinata con il trattamento asintotico per gli integrali doppi di inversione di Fourier. Si espone la rappresentazione in forma esplicita della soluzione di regime e di quella transitoria. Si dimostra che la condizione finale di regime viene stabilita nel passaggio al limite. Si esegue una breve discussione del principale comportamento del moto ondoso.

     

Metal ion-induced H-aggregation of a water-soluble anionic dye Congo red (CR) in Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) film

Present communication reports the preparation of Langmuir monolayer of water-soluble anionic dye Congo red (CR) by allowing it to adsorb from the aqueous subphase onto the preformed Langmuir monolayer of anionic stearic acid using divalent metal cations Mg²⁺ as mediator. Isotherm and compressibility studies of SA-Mg-CR hybrid monolayer gave valuable information about the molecular organisation in the Langmuir monolayer. Absorption spectroscopic studies revealed the formation of H-aggregates in the hybrid Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) films fabricated at lower salt concentration in the subphase. Atomic Force Microscopic image gave visual evidence of distinct nanocrystalline domains in the LB monolayer film.     

The spherical vessel with anisotropic creep properties considering large strains

The effect of material anisotropy on creep of pressurized thick-walled spherical vessel has been discussed considering the large strain theory. It is found that the creep strain varies with varying anisotropy of the material. The results obtained for the anisotropic case have been compared with those obtained for the isotropic case and it is observed that the stress and strain distribution in the wall of the vessel is strikingly different for the two cases.

The important bioactivity of new and known iridoids and secoiridoids reported during this period is also highlighted.
