Effect of structural misalignments on the temperature variation of basal plane electrical conductivity of graphite

The amount and extent of structural misaligments in natural graphite crystals have been determined, and the temperature variation of the basal plane electrical conductivity (σ_⊥) of naturally occurring graphite has also been studied from 300 to 90 K. The conductivity (σ_⊥) has been found to obey a law σ_⊥α($\text{1}\text{T}$) down to a certain temperature θ (θ varying from sample to sample), below which the variation deviates from linearity towards lower values of σ_⊥. This behaviour, which was earlier thought to be a characteristic of graphite and whose origin could not be traced, has been shown to be an effect of the structural misalignments usually present in natural samples of graphite.     

Effects on mass transfer of atomization and dispersion of liquids in the presence of ultrasound

By applying ultrasound at different frequencies and intensities through the bottom of a narrow tube containing liquids of varying physical properties, followed by critical analysis of the experimental data, a systematic study of the effect of these parameters on enhancement in rate of mass transfer has been made and a correlation has been proposed for prediction of such enhancement.     

Interatomic force constants and lattice vibrations of AlP,AlAs and AlSb

The interatomic force constants and the phonon dispersion curves of AlP, AlAs, and AlSb are obtained from the electronic theory of solids by using our presented binding force, which includes mainly covalent interactions in the pseudopotential formalism and partially ionic interactions. The potential-parameter, effective ionic charge and ionic fraction of AlP and AlAs are estimated from those of AlSb and other III–V tetrahedrally- bonded compounds in spite of no experimental information on the band- calculation and the neutron scattering data of AlP and AlAs. Numerical data for the crystal energy of AlP and AlAs are in good agreement with the observed data, and the obtained results for the phonon dispersion curves and bulk modulus are useful to study the lattice dynamics and anharmonic properties of these compounds.     

Equal-valued, common-terminal capacitor synthesis of RC one-ports

A method is presented for the synthesis of RC 1-ports with a minimum possible number of capacitors, all of equal value and all connected to a common terminal of the 1-port. Such a realisation facilitates economical integrated- circuit fabrication and is of importance in integrated active RC 2-port synthesis.     

Parity-violating electron deuteron scattering and the proton's neutral weak axial vector form factor

We report on a new measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in quasielastic electron scattering from the deuteron at backward angles at Q2=0.038 (GeV/c)2. This quantity provides a determination of the neutral weak axial vector form factor of the nucleon, which can potentially receive large electroweak corrections. The measured asymmetry A=-3.51+/-0.57 (stat)+/-0.58 (syst) ppm is consistent with theoretical predictions. We also report on updated results of the previous experiment at Q2=0.091 (GeV/c)2, which are also consistent with theoretical predictions.     

Medium-dependent electron and H atom transfer between 2'-deoxyadenosine and menadione: a magnetic field effect study

The interaction between 2'-deoxyadenosine and the model antitumor drug menadione has been studied in organic solvent and in micellar medium. The aim of the work is to elucidate the mechanism of this drug-nucleoside interaction and to determine the environmental effects. Laser flash photolysis and magnetic field effect are used to detect the transients and their spin states. The results indicate that H atom transfer and electron transfer are the operative mechanisms depending upon the medium.     

Atomic absorbers for controlling pulse propagation in resonators

We consider pulse propagation through a Fabry-Perot cavity with silver mirrors that contain macroscopic samples of resonant absorbers. We show that the pulse velocity can be tuned from subluminal to superluminal in a strongly coupled atom-cavity system. We delineate the effects of the interplay of cavity and absorbers. We demonstrate the saturation effects of pulse advancement with increasing mirror thickness and atomic damping.     

Consistent resolution of possible anomalies in B0-->phi K(S) and B+ --> eta'K+ Decays

In the framework of R-parity violating (R(p)) supersymmetry, we try to find a consistent explanation for both recently measured CP asymmetry in B0 --> phi K(S) decay and the large branching ratio of B+/- --> eta'K+/- decay, which are inconsistent with the standard model (SM) prediction. We also investigate other charmless hadronic B -- >PP and B --> VP decay modes whose experimental data favor the SM: for instance, recently measured CP asymmetries in B0 --> eta(')K(S) and B0 -- >J/Psi K(S). We find that all the observed data can be accommodated for certain values of R(p) couplings.     

On the Operator Semirings of a Γ-Semiring

In this paper we introduce the notion of operator semirings of a -semiring to study -semirings. It is shown that the lattices of all left (right) ideals (two-sided ideals) of a -semiring and its right (respectively left) operator semiring are isomorphic. This has many applications to characterize various -semirings.AMS Subject Classification (2000): 16Y60, 16Y99
