APPROXIMATION OF CONTINUOUS FUNCTIONS BY GENERALIZED KARAMATA MEANS

A sufficient condition for the order of approximation of a continuous 2π periodic function with a givenmajorant for the modulus of continuity by the [F, d_n] means of its Fourier serier to be of Jackson order isobtained. This sufficient condition is shown to be not enough for the order of approximation by partial sums oftheir Fourier series to be of Jackson order. The error estimate is shown to be the best possible.     

Terahertz wave tomographic imaging with a Fresnel lens

We demonstrate three-dimensional tomographic imaging using a Fresnel lens with broadband terahertzpulses.Objects at various locations along the beam propagation path are uniquely imaged on the sameimaging plane using a Fresnel lens with different frequencies of the imaging beam.This procedure allowsthe reconstruction of an object's tomographic contrast image by assembling the frequency-dependentimages.     

Positron-Lithium Atom and Electron-Lithium Atom Scattering Systems at Intermediate and High Energies

The coupled-channel optical method is used to study positron scattering by atomic lithium at energies ranging from the ionization threshold to 60eV, The present method simultaneously treats the target channels and the positronium （Ps） channels in the coupled-channel method together with the continuum effects via an ab-initio optical potential. Ionization, elastic and inelastic cross sections in target channels, and the total cross section are also reported and compared with other theoretical and experimental data. A comparative study with the corresponding electron-lithium data is also reported.     

Do the Experimental Violations of Bell Inequalities Require a Non-Local Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics？

Since the data show that Bell inequalities are violated experimentally, we must conclude that any hidden variable theory （which correctly predicts experimental data ） will be non-local. But, to conclude that the experimental violations of Bell inequalities show quantum mechanics to be non-local is unjustified. Specifically, the key assumptions required to obtain a Bell inequality are （ 1 ） locality and （2） the assignment of meaningful （ non- negative） probabilities to seemingly physical correlations （Bell expresses these correlations via ＂ hidden variables＂ ）. Since the Bell inequality is violated by experiment, at least one of these assumptions is wrong. The widespread conclusion that locality must be relinquished is valid only if we retain the previously mentioned correlations （ ＂hidden variables＂ ）. We will demonstrate that the latter are not physical observables - they are not elements of physical reality.
