The generation and the subsequent evolution of dynamic failure events in homogeneous layered materials that occur within microseconds after impact were investigated experimentally. Tested configurations include three-layer and two-layer, bonded Homalite specimens featuring different bonding strengths. High-speed photography and dynamic photoelasticity were utilized to study the nature, sequence and interaction of failure modes. A series of complex failure modes was observed. In most cases, and at the early stages of the impact event, intra-layer failure (or bulk matrix failure) appeared in the form of cracks radiating from the impact point. These cracks were opening-dominated and their speeds were less than the crack branching speed of the Homalite. Subsequent crack branching in several forms was also observed. Mixed-mode inter-layer cracking (or interfacial debonding) was initiated when the intra-layer cracks approached the interface with a large incident angle. The dynamic interaction between inter-layer crack formation and intra-layer crack growth (or the so-called “Cook–Gordon Mechanism”) was visualized for the first time. Interfacial bonding played a significant role in impact damage spreading. Cracks arrested at weak bonds and the stress wave intensity was reduced dramatically by the use of a thin but ductile adhesive layer. 相似文献

Effectiveness of previous SRAM leakage reduction techniques vary significantly as the leakage variation gets worse with process and temperature fluctuation. This paper proposes a simple circuit technique that adaptively trades off overhead energy for maximum leakage savings under severe leakage variations. The proposed run-time leakage reduction technique for on-die SRAM caches considers architectural access behavior to determine how often the SRAM blocks should enter a sleep mode. A self-decay circuit generates a periodic sleep pulse with an adaptive pulse period, which puts the SRAM array into a sleep mode more frequently at high leakage conditions (fast process, high temperature) and vice versa. An 0.18-/spl mu/m 1.8-V 16-kbyte SRAM testchip shows 94.2% reduction in SRAM cell leakage at a performance penalty less than 2%. Measurement results also indicate that our proposed memory cell improves SRAM static noise margin by 25%. 相似文献

In this paper we design a cognitive radio that can coexist with multiple parallel WLAN channels while abiding by an interference constraint. The interaction between both systems is characterized by measurement and coexistence is enhanced by predicting the WLAN's behavior based on a continuous-time Markov chain model. Cognitive medium access (CMA) is derived from this model by recasting the problem as one of constrained Markov decision processes. Solutions are obtained by linear programming. Furthermore, we show that optimal CMA admits structured solutions, simplifying practical implementations. Preliminary results for the partially observable case are presented. The performance of the proposed schemes is evaluated for a typical WLAN coexistence setup and shows a significant performance improvement. 相似文献

Microwave attenuation measurements at 25 and 38 GHz made on a 2.3-km microwave link are employed to estimate drop size distributions (DSD), rainfall rate, and rainfall accumulation. A theoretical model for the propagation of microwaves in a link system sets forth the basis for the development of a dual-wavelength analytical technique to invert two parameters of a path-average gamma DSD. The DSDs obtained from the technique are evaluated in conjunction with point measurements performed with a 2-D video disdrometer. The traveling bending waves in a long beam of rectangular cross section were measured and calculated. The bending waves were induced by impacting with a steel sphere and measured with strain gages at several distances from the point of impact. The impact force was calculated as a function of time by integrating the dynamic equations of the sphere and the beam. The force spectrum was then found using a fast-Fourier-transform (FFT) calculation and multiplied by the moment-frequency response of the beam to determine the moment spectrum. The moment-time function was calculated by an inverse FFT. The traveling wave is dispersive; its spectrum was found from that at the point of impact by phase shifting each component by an angle proportional to the distance and to the square root of the frequency. Again the time curve was determined by an inverse FFT. The indentation stiffness of the beam was found to be very much less than that of the elastic half space because of transverse bending. After the impact force was recalculated with this correction, the calculated moment-time traces agreed very well with the measured ones. 相似文献

The present work describes an exciting method for the selective and sensitive determination of calcitonin in human blood serum samples. Adopting the surface molecular imprinting technique, a calcitonin-imprinted polymer was prepared on the surface of the zinc oxide nanostructure. Firstly, a biocompatible tyrosine derivative as a monomer was grafted onto the surface of zinc oxide nanostructure followed by their polymerization on vinyl functionalized electrode surface by activator regenerated by electron transfer–atom transfer radical polymerization (ARGET–ATRP) technique. Such sensor can predict the small change in the concentration of calcitonin in the human body and it may also consider to be as cost-effective, renewable, disposable, and reliable for clinical studies having no such cross-reactivity and matrix effect from real samples. The morphologies and properties of the proposed sensor were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry, difference pulse voltammetry and chronocoulometry. The linear working range was found to be 9.99 ng L−1 to 7.919 mg L−1 and the detection limit as low as 3.09 ± 0.01 ng L−1 (standard deviation for three replicate measurements) (S/N = 3). 相似文献

The coupling of atomic and photonic resonances serves as an important tool for enhancing light‐matter interactions and enables the observation of multitude of fascinating and fundamental phenomena. Here, by exploiting the platform of atomic‐cladding wave guides, the resonant coupling of rubidium vapor and an atomic cladding micro ring resonator is experimentally demonstrated. Specifically, cavity‐atom coupling in the form of Fano resonances having a distinct dependency on the relative frequency detuning between the photonic and the atomic resonances is observed. Moreover, significant enhancement of the efficiency of all optical switching in the V‐type pump‐probe scheme is demonstrated. The coupled system of micro‐ring resonator and atomic vapor is a promising building block for a variety of light vapor experiments, as it offers a very small footprint, high degree of integration and extremely strong confinement of light and vapor. As such it may be used for important applications, such as all optical switching, dispersion engineering (e.g. slow and fast light) and metrology, as well as for the observation of important effects such as strong coupling, and Purcell enhancement.
