We report the integration of inorganic nanotubes into metal-oxide-solution field effect transistors (FETs) which exhibit rapid field effect modulation of ionic conductance. Surface functionalization, analogous to doping in semiconductors, can switch the nanofluidic transistors from p-type to ambipolar and n-type field effect transistors. Transient study reveals the kinetics of field effect modulation is controlled by ion-exchange step. Nanofluidic FETs have potential implications in subfemtoliter analytical technology and large-scale nanofluidic integration.  相似文献

Dielectric and electro-optical studies of a pure and electron beam irradiated liquid crystalline compound 4-(trans-4′-n-hexylcyclohexyl) isothiocyanatobenzoate have been carried out. Dielectric anisotropy, relaxation frequency, activation energy and distribution parameter of an observed non-collective mode corresponding to the molecular rotation about the short axes have been determined as a function of temperature and irradiation dose whereas threshold and switching voltages, splay elastic constant are determined as a function of irradiation dose. The relaxation frequencies initially decrease up to an irradiation dose of 40 kGy but thereafter increase due to irradiation. The activation energies are increased up to irradiation dose of 40 kGy but around 60 kGy dose of irradiation, we found decrease in the activation energy. Electro-optical measurements show the lowering of the threshold voltage with sufficient improvement in the steepness of the transmission voltage curves due to irradiation. The observed changes in the dielectric and electro-optical properties are related with the cis–trans isomerization due to electron beam irradiation.  相似文献

Temporins are short (10–13 amino acids) and linear antimicrobial peptides first isolated from the skin of the European red frog, Rana temporaria, and are effective against Gram-positive bacteria and Candida albicans. Similarly to other antimicrobial peptides, the association of temporins to lipid membranes has been concluded to underlie their antimicrobial effects. Accordingly, a detailed understanding of their interactions with phospholipids is needed. We conjugated a fluorophore (Texas Red) to a Cys containing derivative of temporin B (temB) and investigated its binding to liposomes by fluorescence spectroscopy. Circular dichroic spectra for the Cys-mutant recorded in the absence and in the presence of phospholipids were essentially similar to those for temB. A blue shift in the emission spectra and diminished quenching by ferrocyanide (FCN) of Texas Red labeled temporin B (TRC-temB) were seen in the presence of liposomes. Both of these changes can be attributed to the insertion of the Texas Red into the hydrophobic region of the bilayer. Resonance energy transfer, steady state anisotropy, and fluorescence lifetimes further demonstrate the interaction of TRC-temB with liposomes to be enhanced by negatively charged phospholipids. Instead, cholesterol attenuates the association of TRC-temB with membranes. The interactions between TRC-temB and liposomes of varying negative surface charge are driven by electrostatics as well as hydrophobicity. Similarly to native temporin B also TRC-temB forms amyloid type fibers in the presence of negatively charged liposomes. This property is likely to relate to the cytotoxic activity of this peptide.  相似文献

Three‐dimensional structures that undergo reversible shape changes in response to mild stimuli enable a wide range of smart devices, such as soft robots or implantable medical devices. Herein, a dual thiol‐ene reaction scheme is used to synthesize a class of liquid crystal (LC) elastomers that can be 3D printed into complex shapes and subsequently undergo controlled shape change. Through controlling the phase transition temperature of polymerizable LC inks, morphing 3D structures with tunable actuation temperature (28 ± 2 to 105 ± 1 °C) are fabricated. Finally, multiple LC inks are 3D printed into single structures to allow for the production of untethered, thermo‐responsive structures that sequentially and reversibly undergo multiple shape changes.  相似文献

“Recently, various paradigms, for instance, device-to-device communications, LTE-unlicensed and cognitive radio based on an opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) are being envisioned to improve the average spectrum utilization. In OSA, secondary (unlicensed) users (SUs) need decision making policies (DMPs) to identify and transmit over optimum frequency bands without any interference to the primary (licensed) users as well as minimize the number of collisions among SUs. In this paper, we have proposed a two-stage DMP consisting of Bayesian Multi-armed Bandit algorithm to accurately characterize the frequency band statistics independently at each SU and frequency band selection scheme for orthogonalization of SUs. The analytical and simulation results show that the proposed DMP leads to 45% improvement in the average spectrum utilization compared to 36–39% in the existing DMPs. Furthermore, the number of collisions are 58.5% lower in the proposed DMP making SU terminals energy-efficient. The performance of the proposed DMP has been verified on the proposed USRP testbed in real radio environment and the experimental results closely match the simulated results .”  相似文献

The max-min fair scheduling problem in wireless ad-hoc networks is a non-convex optimization problem. A general framework is presented for this optimization problem and analyzed to obtain a dual problem, which involves solving a series of optimization sub-problems. In the limit of infinite bandwidth ( ), the scheduling solution reduces to simultaneous transmission (spread spectrum) on all links (Negi and Rajeswaran, INFOCOM '04 (March 2004)). This motivates the analysis of the scheduling problem in the Ultra Wide Band (UWB) regime ( , but finite), a model for certain practical radios. A quadratic (in 1/W) lower bound to the single link capacity function is developed, which simplifies the dual sub-problem to a quadratic optimization (Negi and Rajeswaran, GLOBECOM '04, (Dec. 2004)). The solution to this sub-problem is then obtained under both total power and power spectral density constraints. This solution is utilized to iteratively construct the schedule (sub-band sizes) and power allocation, thus optimally solving the UWB max-min fair scheduling problem, to within any desired precision. Simulations on medium sized networks demonstrate the excellent performance of this scheme. A cellular architecture (not necessarily UWB) may also be considered in this framework. It is proved that Frequency Division Multiple Access is the optimal scheduling for a multi-band cellular architecture. Gyouhwan Kim received his B.S. and M.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from Sogang University in Korea, in 1994 and 1996, respectively. Since 1996, he has been working in the CDMA cellular system development team in Samsung Electronics. Currently, he is also working toward the Ph.D degree in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His main research interests are in wireless networks and communication theory. Rohit Negi received the B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India in 1995. He received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University, CA, USA, in 1996 and 2000 respectively, both in Electrical Engineering. He has received the President of India Gold medal in 1995. Since 2000, he has been with the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, where he is an Assistant Professor.
