Over the last half century, numerous nonlinear variants of the tuned mass damper have been developed in order to improve attenuation characteristics. In the present study, the performance of a linear oscillator and an absorber with a strongly nonlinear cubic stiffness is evaluated by using numerical methods. This configuration has been of recent interest due to its capability of wide-band energy absorption. However, high amplitude solutions, which would amplify the response of the system, have been shown to often coexist with the low amplitude solutions. The present research is focused on numerically determining the relative strength of the coexisting solutions. Erosion profiles are presented, quantifying the integrity of the system, i.e. the likelihood of converging to a safe, low amplitude response, and providing an indication of the structural safety of a practical absorber system. The results indicate that the high amplitude solutions not only exist but significantly influence the response of the system within the range of expected operating conditions, particularly at excitation frequencies lower than the natural frequency of the linear oscillator. The erosion profiles indicate a 20–40% increase in system integrity for the case of zero damping compared to a small amount of damping, no significant integrity change when adding a small linear stiffness component to the nonlinear absorber, and no significant change in integrity between the midpoint and extreme of the bi-stable range. Additional higher-period solutions are also discovered and evidence of a chaotic response is presented.  相似文献

The Raman spectra of 3‐(pent‐1‐enyl) methyl ether (3‐methoxypent‐1‐ene) and four deuterium‐labelled analogues are reported and discussed. Correlations between specific structural features and the associated Raman bands are developed, with a view to enhancing the analytical application of Raman spectroscopy in investigating materials containing an alkenyl group. Particular attention is given to developing means of distinguishing the methyl group attached to the carbon skeleton from that of the methoxy group, to maximize the analytical utility of the signals associated with ν(sp2 CH), ν(sp2 CH2) and ν(CC) stretching vibrations, and to interpreting in more detail certain δ(sp2 CH) and δ(sp2 CH2) vibrations of the atoms of the double bond. These results establish a definitive spectroscopic protocol for differentiating a methoxy group from a methyl substituent attached directly to a carbon atom in unsaturated ethers. Je considère que c′est une preuve de genérosité de la part des autorités de I'Université que d'honorer quelqu'un qui a une lacune manifeste. En efet, si je parle, je préfére I'anglais. Si je pense, je le fais naturellement en allemand. Et sije me tais, c'est souvent en français. J'espére que le grand honneur que l'on me fait ne va donc pas à l'encontre de la constitution française.

Vous savez, aujourd'hui, il est trés facile de communiquer par Fax et e-mail. Mais, sans une langue commune, aucune communication n'est possible. Heureusement, les scientifiques ont inventé des langues formelles et logiques comme le FORTRAN et le C++. Mais ces langues ne suflsent pas pour exprimer la gratitude que J'éprouve à être ici, dans une robe magnijique et unique. Je suis persuadé que j'ai fini par éveiller l'admiration de ma chère epouse et peut-être aussi le respect de quelques personnes présentes dans cette vénérable salle. A quantum electrodynamics calculation of the dynamic microscopic interactions between molecules beyond the electric dipole approximation is presented. The symmetry of the resulting terms is examined with respect to rotations, parity and index permutations. Their relative importance is also considered in the short-distance limit. A dominant term which exists only in chiral molecules and which involves the coupling of the anisotropic parts of the molecular optical activities is evidenced. Associated with the coupling of the anisotropic parts of the molecular polarisabilities which is usually invoked to account for the isotropic–nematic phase transition of liquid crystals, that term accounts for the possibility of the helical order which is observed in chiral nematics (cholesterics). Introducing in addition both the short-range correlations due to the exclusion principle driven repulsive forces and the thermally-induced effect of the static multipole interactions can explain the temperature dependence of the helical pitch. No assumption will be made on the shape of the molecules.  相似文献

Spectral- and cepstral-based acoustic measures are preferable to time-based measures for accurately representing dysphonic voices during continuous speech. Although these measures show promising relationships to perceptual voice quality ratings, less is known regarding their ability to differentiate normal from dysphonic voice during continuous speech and the consistency of these measures across multiple utterances by the same speaker. The purpose of this study was to determine whether spectral moments of the long-term average spectrum (LTAS) (spectral mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis) and cepstral peak prominence measures were significantly different for speakers with and without voice disorders when assessed during continuous speech. The consistency of these measures within a speaker across utterances was also addressed. Continuous speech samples from 27 subjects without voice disorders and 27 subjects with mixed voice disorders were acoustically analyzed. In addition, voice samples were perceptually rated for overall severity. Acoustic analyses were performed on three continuous speech stimuli from a reading passage: two full sentences and one constituent phrase. Significant between-group differences were found for both cepstral measures and three LTAS measures (P < 0.001): spectral mean, skewness, and kurtosis. These five measures also showed moderate to strong correlations to overall voice severity. Furthermore, high degrees of within-speaker consistency (correlation coefficients ≥0.89) across utterances with varying length and phonemic content were evidenced for both subject groups.  相似文献

The relationship between bias-induced redox reactions and resistance switching is considered for memory devices containing TiO2 or a conducting polymer in “molecular heterojunctions” consisting of thin (2–25 nm) films of covalently bonded molecules, polymers, and oxides. Raman spectroscopy was used to monitor changes in the oxidation state of polythiophene in Au/P3HT/SiO2/Au devices, and it was possible to directly determine the formation and stability of the conducting polaron state of P3HT by applied bias pulses [P3HT = poly(3-hexyl thiophene)]. Polaron formation was strongly dependent on junction composition, particularly on the interfaces between the polymer, oxide, and electrodes. In all cases, trace water was required for polaron formation, leading to the proposal that water reduction acts as a redox counter-reaction to polymer oxidation. Polaron stability was longest for the case of a direct contact between Au and SiO2, implying that catalytic water reduction at the Au surface generated hydroxide ions which stabilized the cationic polaron. The spectroscopic information about the dependence of polaron stability on device composition will be useful for designing and monitoring resistive switching memory based on conducting polymers, with or without TiO2 present.  相似文献

We demonstrate that strong modulation instability (MI) of copropagating optical waves can be observed in Si photonic nanowires with a length of only a few millimeters. We consider two distinct cases, namely one in which one wave propagates in the normal group-velocity dispersion (GVD) region and the other one experiences anomalous GVD, and a second case in which both waves propagate in the anomalous GVD region. In both cases we show that, for comparable optical powers, the peak value of the MI gain spectrum is 2 to 3 orders of magnitude larger than that achieved in optical fibers.  相似文献

Background  

The malignant cells of cutaneous T cell lymphoma (CTCL) display immunogenic peptides derived from the clonal T cell receptor (TCR) providing an attractive model for refinement of anti-tumor immunization methodology. To produce a clinically meaningful anti-tumor response, induction of cytotoxic anti-CTCL cells must be maximized while suppressive T regulatory cells (Treg) should be minimized. We have demonstrated that engulfment of apoptotic CTCL cells by dendritic cells (DC) can lead to either CD8 anti-CTCL responses or immunosuppressive Treg induction. Treg generation is favored when the number of apoptotic cells available for ingestion is high.  相似文献

This study investigated the role of uncertainty in masking of speech by interfering speech. Target stimuli were nonsense sentences recorded by a female talker. Masking sentences were recorded from ten female talkers and combined into pairs. Listeners' recognition performance was measured with both target and masker presented from a front loudspeaker (nonspatial condition) or with a masker presented from two loudspeakers, with the right leading the front by 4 ms (spatial condition). In Experiment 1, the sentences were presented in blocks in which the masking talkers, spatial configuration, and signal-to-noise (S-N) ratio were fixed. Listeners' recognition performance varied widely among the masking talkers in the nonspatial condition, much less so in the spatial condition. This result was attributed to variation in effectiveness of informational masking in the nonspatial condition. The second experiment increased uncertainty by randomizing masking talkers and S-N ratios across trials in some conditions, and reduced uncertainty by presenting the same token of masker across trials in other conditions. These variations in masker uncertainty had relatively small effects on speech recognition.  相似文献
