Electrical resistivity of liquid gold-silicon alloys

The electrical resistivity of liquid Au_1?xSi_x alloys was measured in the gold-rich concentration range, 0.16 ? x ? 0.40, as a function of temperature and composition. In this region the temperature coefficients of the resistivity is negative. The resistivities and temperature coefficients are compared with recent data on amorphous sputtered films; for x ? 0.31 the resistivities of the films are in agreement with those of the liquids within the accuracy of the measurements. The results can be interpreted in terms of the Ziman theory.     

Recessed polysilicon encapsulated local oxidation

Local oxidation of silicon (LOCOS) is the most commonly used isolation technology in silicon integrated circuits. The inherently large field oxide encroachment associated with LOCOS severely limits scalability. Recessed polysilicon encapsulated local oxidation (recessed PELOX) is demonstrated to achieve both low encroachment and increased field oxide recess. These benefits are obtained without sacrificing process simplicity or defectivity as evidenced by excellent gate oxide and diode quality     

Frequency response of W-band pulsed impatt oscillator operating with a variable load

The frequency response, particularly the chirp characteristics of W-band waveguide mounted IMPATT devices operating with a variable load has been investigated analytically in this work. The measured chirp bandwidth agrees satisfactorily with the computed value based on the proposed device-circuit interaction model.     

Predominance of d electrons in the conduction bands of rare earths and intermetallic compounds

With a view to study the nature of the conduction electrons in rare earth metals and intermetallic compounds self consistent augmented-plane-wave calculations have been performed for DyZn. The results indicate that 72 per cent of conduction electrons inside the APW sphere of Dy have d character. The dependence of the nature of the conduction electrons on the exchange potential has also been studied.
