Circumferential shear deformation in an annular domain is studied for a large class of incompressible isotropic elastic materials. It is demonstrated that large strains are confined in a region adjacent to a boundary, in analogy to the boundary layer phenomenon in fluid mechanics. The size of this region is quantified. An approximate solution technique for the deformation of nonlinear elastic solids, proposed by Rajagopal [7], is further studied. In this solution, akin to the boundary layer approximation in classical fluid mechanics, the full nonlinear problem is solved in a relatively small region of large strain, while the linearized problem is solved in the remaining region. Error estimates for the approximate solution are obtained.  相似文献

Nicotinamide-N-methyltransferase (NNMT) is a cytosolic enzyme catalyzing the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-methionine (SAM) to nicotinamide (Nam). It is expressed in many tissues including the liver, adipose tissue, and skeletal muscle. Its expression in several cancer cell lines has been widely discussed in the literature, and recent work established a link between NNMT expression and metabolic diseases. Here we describe our approach to identify potent small molecule inhibitors of NNMT featuring different binding modes as elucidated by X-ray crystallographic studies.  相似文献

A matrix approach is proposed for determining the coefficients of maximally flat FIR filter transfer functions expressed in powers of cos w. It is shown that the transformation matrix is a product of the well known Q-matrix and a diagonal matrix. Recently, [Rao, I.J., Rajagopal, K.R., 2007. Status of the K-BKZ model within the framework of materials with multiple natural configurations. Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 141, 79–84] showed that the K-BKZ Model is a special sub-class of models based on a thermodynamic framework that takes into account the fact that bodies are capable of existing stress free in multiple configurations with special choices being made for the way in which the body stores energy and the way it dissipates energy. They also showed that several generalizations of the K-BKZ model are possible. In this short note we show that two distinct methods of storing energy and dissipating energy lead to the classical Maxwell model. That is, in addition to the classical choice for the storage of energy and rate of dissipation (the usual spring dashpot analogy) a more complicated choice also leads to the same model. This result is rather important as it shows that a variety of means for storing and dissipating energy can lead to the same mechanical response, when one restricts oneself to purely mechanical considerations.  相似文献

In order to gain insight into the nature of the Wigner and related distribution functions, bivariate averaging functions of real unbounded variables with absolutely continuous marginals that are ordinary probabilities are considered. Accordingly variables are chosen to be phase space variables that are respectively eigenvalues of position and momentum operators. The impact of the condition that the marginals are squared magnitudes of amplitudes that are Fourier transforms of one another is emphasized by the delay of the introduction of this Fourier transform condition until after the form for a bivariate distribution with the given marginals is obtained. When the respective amplitudes are fourier transforms of one another, special cases of the bivariate averaging function correspond to generalized Wigner functions characterized by a parameterα. Such anα-Wigner function can be used as the basis of a consistent averaging procedure if an appropriate corresponding representation for underlying operators to be averaged is specified. Properties of theα-Wigner functions are summarized.  相似文献

This paper presents novel low-voltage dynamic BiCMOS logic gates and an improved carry look-ahead (CLA) circuit with carry skip using these new dynamic BiCMOS topologies. The well-known “MOS clock feedthrough effect” is used to achieve full swing with substantially reduced low-to-high evaluation delay in the logic gates, thus, resulting in reduced carry propagation/bypass delay in the cascaded CLA array. Simulations at clocking frequency of 100 MHz, using 2-μm BiCMOS process parameters and supply voltage in the range of 2-4 V displays lower gate delay and lower power dissipation compared to other recent dynamic BiCMOS logic topologies. The circuit has no dc power dissipation, race, or charge redistribution problems. An 8-b CLA with 5-b carry skip was achieved in 2.917 ns. This speed is significantly higher than other recent dynamic BiCMOS CLA designs. In addition, the new CLA circuit is more compact compared to previous dynamic BiCMOS CLA designs. A tiny chip was fabricated using the MOSIS Orbit Analog 2-μm V-well CMOS process for the experimental verification of the new low-voltage dynamic BiCMOS topologies  相似文献

Fosdick and Kao [1] extended a conjecture of Ericksen's [2] for non-linear fluids, to non-linear elastic solids, and showed that unless the material moduli of an isotropic elastic material satisfied certain special relations, axial shearing of cylinders would be necessarily accompanied by secondary deformations if the cross-section were not a circle or the annular region between two concentric circles. Further, they used the driving force as the small parameter for a perturbation analysis and showed that the secondary deformation will occur at fourth order, much in common with what is known for non-linear fluids. Here, we show that if on the other hand the driving force is not small (of O(1)), but the departure of the cylinder from circular symmetry is small, then secondary deformations appear at first order, the parameter for perturbance being the divergence from circular symmetry. In his study of combined finite extension and torsion of a nonlinear, incompressible, isotropic elastic circular cylinder, Rivlin [1] established a relation for the torsional stiffness which depends only on the axial force, the axial extension ratio and the radius of the undeformed cylinder, in the case of small twist. The relationship did not depend on the structure of the stored energy function and is hence a universal relation. In this paper, we extend Rivlin's result to the case of combined extension and torsion of a cylindrical mixture of a nonlinear elastic solid and fluid.  相似文献
