This paper presents some results of an experimental investigation of fibres with a depressed inner cladding (W type). It has been confirmed that fibers with low losses and weak dispersion in the 1.3 – 1.7 μm range can be achieved. The sensitivity to fabrication parameters is very important. The coexistence of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity has been demonstrated in GdMo6S8 by neutron diffraction experiments. Although the magnetic unit cell (2a,a,a) is determined by the RKKY interactions, the direction of magnetic moments is determined by the anisotropic dipolar interactions i.e. in the (100) cubic plane.  相似文献

An integrated optical circuit containing a laser, passive waveguide, and extra-cavity detector is described. These devices are fabricated from AlxGa1-xAs layers grown by liquid-phase epitaxy. Reflectors are formed by a two-step preferential etch procedure. For proper laser orientation on {100} wafers, the mirrors are found to be oblique, tapered so as to enhance coupling into the underlying passive waveguide; this increases the efficiency of radiation transfer to the detector. Device operation with high differential transfer efficiency and low threshold has been achieved; e.g., for devices with one etched mirror and one cleaved mirror, ηt= 16 percent andJ_{t} = 2.4kA/cm2, whereas these values areeta_{t} = 6.5percent and Jt= 3.0 kA/cm2for devices with two etched mirrors. Other orientations on {100} and {110} wafers have also been investigated. The reflectivity of the etched mirrors is small,R_{e} simeq 1-2percent, but transfer efficiencies into the external passive waveguide as large asT = 50percent have been observed. The effect of small Reon device performance is examined both experimentally and theoretically. The fabrication of ribbed interconnections between active circuit components is also described.  相似文献

We present a new series of ternary chalcogenides, derived from divalent molybdenum: M2Mo6X6. These compounds crystallize in a hexagonal lattice with a ≈ 9 Å, c ≈ 4.5 Å, and space group P63m. The compounds are characterized by clusters (Mo3)1 in the form of linear chains, resulting from a linear condensation of Mo6 octahedral clusters. The (Mo3)1 clusters are well separated from each other, with the shortest MoMo intercluster distance larger than 6 Å. The resulting pseudo-one-dimensional structures show remarkable anisotropy of physical properties.  相似文献

Anisotropic charge transport is observed in a two-dimensional (2D) hole system in a perpendicular magnetic field at filling factors nu=7/2, nu=11/2, and nu=13/2 at low temperature. In stark contrast, the transport at nu=9/2 is isotropic for all temperatures. Isotropic hole transport at nu=7/2 is restored for sufficiently low 2D densities or an asymmetric confining potential. The density and symmetry dependences of the observed anisotropies suggest that strong spin-orbit coupling in the hole system contributes to the unusual transport behavior.  相似文献

A review is presented of the calculation of photoionization spectra, particularly in the spectral range where electron autoionization of diatomic molecules takes place. In addition to some interesting results obtained over years that compare favourably with experiment, the emphasis here is put on the relation between the methods developed for the calculation of observables associated with the continuum energy spectrum of the electrons and the Alchemy system of programs. This system of programs serves as a basis for initial and intermediate calculations. The examples presented show that diatomic molecules not only in gas phase but also oriented in space or physisorbed at surfaces may be studied readily.  相似文献

An HMX/insulin two-layer system was chosen as a model for further investigation of the matrix properties of explosive materials for protein analytes in plasma desorption mass spectrometry. The dependencies of the molecular ion yield and average charge state as a function of the analyte thickness were studied. An increase in the charge state of multiply protonated molecular species was confirmed as the major matrix effect, with the average charge state z at the smallest thickness studied being higher than in matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization and closer to the value obtained in electrospray ionization under standard acidic conditions. Observed charge state distributions are significantly narrower than the corresponding Poisson distributions, which suggests that the protonation of insulin is limited in plasma desorption by the number of basic sites in the molecule, similar to electrospray ionization. Both the curve displaying total molecular ion yield and the one showing the total charge (proton) yield as a function of the insulin thickness have maxima at a thickness different from an insulin monolayer. These observations diminish the significance of a matrix/analyte interface mechanism for the explosive matrix assistance. Instead, a mechanism related to the chemical energy release during conversion of the explosive after the ion impact is proposed. As additional mechanisms, enhanced protonation of the analyte through collisions with products of the explosive decay is considered, as well as electron scavenging by other products, which leads to a higher survival probability of positively charged protein molecular ions. We report the observation of stable pulse emission and enhancement of intracavity second-harmonic generation (SHG) in self-mode-locked quantum cascade (QC) lasers. Down-conversion of the detector signal by heterodyning with an RF signal allows the direct observation of the pulsed laser emission in the time domain and reveals a stable train of pulses characteristic of mode-locked lasers. The onset of self-mode locking in QC lasers with built-in optical nonlinearity results in a significant increase of the SHG signal. A pulse duration of /spl sim/12 ps is estimated from the measured increase of the SHG signal in pulsed emission compared to the power expected for the SHG signal in CW emission. This value is in good agreement with the pulse duration deduced from the optical spectral width.  相似文献
