The time-dependent equations for a charged gas or fluid consisting of several components, exposed to an electric field, are considered. These equations form a system of strongly coupled, quasilinear parabolic equations which in some situations can be derived from the Boltzmann equation. The model uses the duality between the thermodynamic fluxes and the thermodynamic forces. Physically motivated mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions are prescribed.The existence of weak solutions is proven. The key of the proof is (i) a transformation of the problem by using the entropic variables, or electro-chemical potentials, which symmetrizes the equations, and (ii) a priori estimates obtained by using the entropy function. Finally, the entropy inequality is employed to show the convergence of the solutions to the thermal equilibrium state as the time tends to infinity.  相似文献

In this Note, we propose three formulations of a model describing a quasi-neutral plasma with non-vanishing current. In order to study and compare the numerical efficiency of each formulation, two test-problems are implemented in one dimension. The first is a periodic perturbation of a uniform stationary plasma. By transmitting 40 channels over 300 km of TeraLight fibre, it is shown that optical differential phase shift keying can be used in 100 GHz-spaced 40 Gbit/s systems, with direct detection and a simple receiving filter. A general framework is developed to treat inverse problems with parameters that are random fields. It involves a sampling method that exploits the sensitivity derivatives of the control variable with respect to the random parameters. As the sensitivity derivatives are computed only at the mean values of the relevant parameters, the related extra cost of the present method is a fraction of the total cost of the Monte Carlo method. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated on an example problem governed by the Burgers equation with random viscosity. It is specifically shown that this method is two orders of magnitude more efficient compared to the conventional Monte Carlo method. In other words, for a given number of samples, the present method yields two orders of magnitude higher accuracy than its conventional counterpart.  相似文献
