Titrimetric determination of vanadium(V) and chromium(VI) alone and in mixtures with hydrazine sulphate in phosphoric acid media

Hydrazine sulphate is proposed as a primary standard reagent for the direct titrimetric determination of vanadium(V) and chromium(VI) alone and in mixtures with potentiometric and photometric end-points, in 9–12 M phosphoric acid medium. The methods proposed possess advantages over those currently available. The use of phosphoric acid as a reaction medium not only accelerates the hydrazine-vanadium(V) reaction very much but also makes it follow an accurate stoichiometric path.     

A novel conversion of erythro phospholane epoxides to one-carbon atom homologated allylic alcohols

A novel synthetic approach is described to incorporate one more carbon atom at C-2 position of phospholane oxides as homologated allylic alcohol by treatment of erythro-2,3-epoxy-3-methylphospholane 1-oxides with excess of dimethylsulfonium methylide.     

Electron impact mass spectra of 1-methyl-3-(2-benzothiazolylhydrazono)-2-indolinones

A study of the fragmentation of l-methyl-3-(2-benzothiazolylhydrazono)-2-indolinones on electron impact reveals that the major processes involve N? N bond fission and the competing loss of CO from the molecular ion.     

Complete pi-facial diastereoselectivity in Diels-Alder reactions of dissymmetric 2,4-cyclohexadienones

[reaction: see text] The studies in the Diels-Alder reactions of 5-methoxy-masked o-benzoquinone (1a, R = OMe) and simple dissymmetric 2,4-cyclohexadienones 1b-e with methyl vinyl ketone, styrene, and benzyl vinyl ether are described. The dienones 1b-e reacted with dienophiles to form syn adducts (dienophile approach is syn to allylic methoxy group) exclusively.     

Regioselective synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles via three-component coupling of secondary alcohols, TMSN3 and alkynes

1,4-Disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles are obtained in excellent yields via a three-component coupling of secondary alcohols, alkynes and trimethylsilyl azide (TMSN₃). This one-pot reaction occurs through in situ generation of an azide from the alcohol and TMSN₃, followed by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of the terminal alkyne to afford the corresponding disubstituted triazoles.     

Expanding the repertoire of pyrrolidyl PNA analogues for DNA/RNA hybridization selectivity: aminoethylpyrrolidinone PNA (aepone-PNA)

New PNA analogues derived from aminoethylpyrrolidin-5-one backbone show stabilization of aepone-PNA:DNA hybrids and destabilization of the corresponding RNA hybrids compared to unmodified PNA.     

Thermal behaviour of bisitaconimide and reactive diluent blends

Thermal behaviour of blends based on N,N'-bis(4-itaconimidophenyl) ether (IE) and 4,4'-bis(4-allyl-2-methoxyphenoxy) benzophenone (R₁) or 4,4'-bis(2-allylphenoxy) benzophenone (R₂) are described in this paper. The reactive diluent content was varied from 5-50% (mass/mass) in these blends. A decrease in the melting point and exothermic peak temperature was observed with increasing mass percent of reactive diluent. Thermal stability of blends was affected at high mass percentage of reactive diluents. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.
