Studies on chromium(III) complexes of some new dithiocarbamato ligands

Summary Tris-chelates of chromium(III) have been synthesised with five new dithiocarbamates, [RR'NCS₂]^–, where R=PhCH₂ and R/t'=H, PhCH₂, Me, Et and i-Pr. Magnetic moments together with electronic, i.r. and e.s.r spectra of the complexes have been described. Various ligand-field parameters have been evaluated and discussed.     

Synthesis and thermal characteristics of bisimides. I

Ten structurally different bisimide resins were prepared by reacting maleic anhydride/citraconic anhydride and benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride with aromatic diamines and fused aromatic structures or heterocyclic groups. The amines included were 1,5-diaminonaphthalene, 2,5-bis(p-aminophenyl)1,3,4-oxadiazole, 3,3-bis(p-aminophenyl)phthalide, 9,9-bis(p-aminophenyl)fluorene. and 10,10-bis(p-aminophenyl)anthrone. These monomers were characterized by infrared (IR). ¹H-NMR, mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Thermal polymerization of these monomers was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Broad exothermic peaks were observed for a temperature range of 225–380°C. Temperature of exothermic peak position was influenced by the presence of substituents at the olefinic bond, and in biscitraconimides it was 40–50°C lower than in the corresponding bismaleimides. Anaerobic char yields of cured bisimide resins ranged from 44 to 64%. Oxadiazole-containing bisimides had low thermal stability. Increase in formula weight between the imide groups did not influence the char yields in a systematic manner. Graphite cloth laminates with two of these bisimide resins were fabricated and tested for a number of physical properties. Their limiting oxygen index was 70–72%.     

Electron impact mass spectra of 1-methyl-3-(2-benzothiazolylhydrazono)-2-indolinones

A study of the fragmentation of l-methyl-3-(2-benzothiazolylhydrazono)-2-indolinones on electron impact reveals that the major processes involve N? N bond fission and the competing loss of CO from the molecular ion.     

Erdélyi-type integrals for generalized hypergeometric functions with integral parameter differences

In this paper, we extend one of Erdélyi's classical integrals for the Gauss hypergeometric functions to a special class of generalized hypergeometric functions in which certain pairs of numerator and denomiator parameters differ by positive integers. Our main results are achieved by applying the fractional integration by parts and series manipulation technique. Some special cases are also pointed out which includes a new extension of a Thomae-type transformation.     

Wandering Subspaces of the Bergman Space and the Dirichlet Space Over {{\mathbb{D}^{n}}}

Doubly commuting invariant subspaces of the Bergman space and the Dirichlet space over the unit polydisc \({\mathbb{D}^n}\) (with \({n \geq 2}\) ) are investigated. We show that for any non-empty subset \({\alpha=\{\alpha_1,\ldots,\alpha_k\}}\) of \({\{1,\ldots,n\}}\) and doubly commuting invariant subspace \({\mathcal{S}}\) of the Bergman space or the Dirichlet space over \({\mathbb{D}^n}\) , restriction of the multiplication operator tuple on \({\mathcal{S}, M_{\alpha}|_\mathcal{S}:=(M_{z_{\alpha_1}}|_\mathcal{S},\ldots, M_{z_{\alpha_k}}|_\mathcal{S})}\) , always possesses generating wandering subspace of the form $$\bigcap_{i=1}^k(\mathcal{S}\ominus z_{\alpha_i}\mathcal{S})$$ .     

An M/G/1 Retrial Queueing System with Two-Phase Service and Preemptive Resume

An M/G/1 retrial queueing system with additional phase of service and possible preemptive resume service discipline is considered. For an arbitrarily distributed retrial time distribution, the necessary and sufficient condition for the system stability is obtained, assuming that only the customer at the head of the orbit has priority access to the server. The steady-state distributions of the server state and the number of customers in the orbit are obtained along with other performance measures. The effects of various parameters on the system performance are analysed numerically. A general decomposition law for this retrial queueing system is established.     

Structural reconfiguration and informal coordination in administrative organizations

This paper considers the problem of determining the optimal design of public organizations in terms of maximizing their reliability against institutional failures. To capture both the individual and the system-level aspects of organizational decisionmaking, first we present an analytical model that characterizes the optimal decision behavior of a single decision maker (unit, agent, in general: DM) in the context of a binary decision task. In this sense, reliability of a DM against the two possible error types: implementation of the wrong policy (error of comission, Type I error) and failure to act when it is necessary (error of omission, Type II error) are interpreted as the result of a particular decision strategy. Individual expertise is represented in the form of a Relative Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve that, in turn, depicts the necessary trade-off between the two errors when selecting an appropriate decision strategy. Component decisions are then combined along the lines of organizational structure which is described using a graph formalism. We show that the task of finding the best organizational design involves a joint optimization over structure and strategy, and implement the normative model in the context of a detailed example. Our numerical results suggest that when DMs coordinate their decision rules, there is little difference in the performance of various organizational structures.This work was supported by the Office of Naval Research under ONR contract #N0014-93-I-0793.     

Investigation of the reaction products of 5-amino-1,3-disubstituted-pyrazoles with aromatic aldehydes. synthesis of new fluorinated 1,3,4-trisubstituted-4H-pyrazolo[3,4-e][1,4]thiazepin-7-ones

The condensation products of 5-amino-1,3-disubstituted-pyrazoles with aromatic aldehydes were identified as 2,4-dihydro-2,5-diphenyl-4-(phenylmethylene)-3H-pyrazol-5-imine derivatives Treatment of these products with mercaptoacetic acid gave new fluorine containing 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-e][1,4]thiazepin-7-ones.     

Synthesis of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazides as possible antiinflammatory agents

A series of 1-(5-phenyl-2H-tetrazol-2-ylacetyl)-4-substituted thiosemicarbazids were prepared as possible antiinflammatory agents. Their antiproteolytic activity was reported.     

Stereochemical applications of mass spectrometry: 1—The utility of electron impact and chemical ionization mass spectrometry in the differentiation of stereoisomeric benzoin oximes and phenylhydrazones

A study of the electron impact and chemical ionization (H₂, CH₄, and iso-C₄H₁₀) mass spectra of stereoisomeric benzoin oximes and phenylhydrazones indicates that while the former can be distinguished only by their chemical ionization mass spectra the latter are readily distinguishable by both their electron impact and chemical ionization mass spectra. The electron impact mass spectra of the isomeric oximes are practically identical; however, the chemical ionization spectra show that the E isomer forms more stable [MH]⁺ and [MH? H₂O]⁺ ions than the Z isomer for which both the [MH]⁺ and [MH? H₂O]⁺ ions are relatively unstable. In electron impact the Z-phenylhydrazone shows a lower [M]⁺˙ ion abundance and more facile loss of H₂O than does the E isomer. This more facile H₂O loss also is observed for the [MH]⁺ ion of the Z isomer under chemical ionization conditions.
