Gunn-effect high-speed carry finding device for 8 bit binary adder

A high-speed carry finding device consisting of seven inhibitors, each an integrated Schottky electrode-triggered Gunn device and an m.e.s.f.e.t., was fabricated monolithically. The device could find and store carry signals of all digits in 330 ps at the worst logic case. The anode-voltage margin was 11%     

Sedimentation transport method for determination of molecular weight distributions

The sedimentation of the system polystyrene-cyclohexane at the Flory temperature has been studied with emphasis on the effects of pressure as well as concentration. The relation between the molecular weight M and the limiting sedimentation coefficient s₀⁰, is found to be s₀⁰ = 1.50 × 10^?15 M^1/2 (sec.) The concentration dependence parameter k_s has the form, k_s = k′M^1/2 = k″s₀⁰ with k′ = 4.5–5.5 × 10^?4. However, a rather unexpected dependence of k_s on the rotor speed is also found. A procedure is proposed for deducing solute molecular weight distributions from boundary spreading data in sedimentation transport experiments, a so-called “single concentration” method, requiring only one sedimentation run. Application to several polystyrenes (in cyclohexane at 35°C) with narrow, broad, and very broad distributions demonstrates the feasibility of the procedure. Comparisons are made with data from elution chromatography and gel permeation chromatography. The GPC method predicts somewhat broader distributions than those obtained by the other two methods.     

Identification of low chlorinated biphenyls in human milk by gas chromatography--mass spectrometry.

Trichlorobiphenyl and tetrachlorobiphenyls in human milk were analysed by gas chromatography--mass spectrometry and mass fragmentography using silicone OV-1 and Apiezon L grease as stationary phases. Low-chlorinated biphenyls had been considered to be excreted rapidly from the body, but in this work quantities of tri- and tetrachlorobiphenyls amounting to approximately 30% of the total of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) accumulated in the milk were identified. This result is important in relation to the quantification of PCBs and in studies of the mechanism of biological degradation.     

Remarks on the theory of diffusion in electrolyte solutions

The assumptions usually made that the ionic atmosphere has spherical symmetry in the diffusion of binary electrolytes and that the electrophoretic effect is negligible in the tracer diffusion of ions are pointed out to be incorrect when terms up to order κ² ln κ (κ is the Debye-Hückel parameter) are considered.     

A simple method for minimizing non-linear image contrast in spherical aberration-corrected HRTEM

A simple and practical method for minimizing non-linear image contrast in spherical aberration-corrected (C(S)-corrected) high-resolution transmission electron microscopy is presented. The effectiveness of the method is considered from the viewpoints of theoretical formulations and image simulations including second-order imaging effects. The method is one of the advantages of C(S)-correction and applied to high-resolution images down to 0.1 nm. The dynamical diffraction effect is carefully evaluated, which shows that the phase deviation of diffracted waves from pi/2 violates the present method in thicker crystals over approximately 10 nm.     

Electronic structure of TiH2

The electronic structure of TiH₂ has been studied using the augmented-plane-wave method and the LCAO interpolation. The density of states and its orbital components show that the conduction band is Ti d-like and that the valence band is largely derived from the hydrogen orbitals with small Ti 3d hybridization. The electronic charges on the hydrogen atom are ～ 1.5 as compared to 1.6–1.7 of the rare-earth metal hydrides.
