Energy Properties and Biomass Yield of Miscanthus x Giganteus Fertilized by Municipal Sewage Sludge

The application of municipal sewage sludge as fertilizer in the production of non-food energy crops is an environmentally and economically sustainable approach to sewage sludge management. In addition, the application of municipal sewage sludge to energy crops such as Miscanthus x giganteus is an alternative form of recycling nutrients and organic material from waste. Municipal sewage sludge is a potential source of heavy metals in the soil, some of which can be removed by growing energy crops that are also remediation agents. Therefore, the objective of the research was to investigate the effect of municipal sewage sludge applied at three different rates of 1.66, 3.22 and 6.44 t/ha on the production of Miscanthus. Based on the analyses conducted on the biomass of Miscanthus fertilized with sludge from the wastewater treatment plant in three fertilization treatments, it can be concluded that the biomass of Miscanthus is a good feedstock for the process of direct combustion. Moreover, the application of the largest amount of municipal sewage sludge during cultivation had no negative effect on the properties of Miscanthus biomass. Moreover, the cellulose and hemicellulose content of Miscanthus is ideal for the production of second-generation liquid biofuels. Fertilizer treatments had no effect on the content of cellulose and lignin, while a significant statistical difference was found for hemicellulose.     

Simplicity Beneath Complexity: Counting Molecular Electrons Reveals Transients and Kinetics of Photodissociation Reactions

Time‐resolved pump–probe gas‐phase X‐ray scattering signals, extrapolated to zero momentum transfer, provide a measure of the number of electrons in a system, an effect that arises from the coherent addition of elastic scattering from the electrons. This allows to identify reactive transients and determine the chemical reaction kinetics without the need for extensive scattering simulations or complicated inversion of scattering data. We examine the photodissociation reaction of trimethylamine and identify two reaction paths upon excitation to the 3p state at 200 nm: a fast dissociation path out of the 3p state to the dimethyl amine radical (16.6±1.2 %) and a slower dissociation via internal conversion to the 3s state (83.4±1.2 %). The time constants for the two reactions are 640±130 fs and 74±6 ps, respectively. Additionally, it is found that the transient dimethyl amine radical has a N?C bond length of 1.45±0.02 Å and a C?N?C bond angle of 118°±4°.

An isometry theorem for quadratic differentials on Riemann surfaces of finite genus

Assume both and are Riemann surfaces which are subsets of compact Riemann surfaces and respectively, and that the set has infinitely many points. We show that the only surjective complex linear isometries between the spaces of integrable holomorphic quadratic differentials on and are the ones induced by conformal homeomorphisms and complex constants of modulus 1. It follows that every biholomorphic map from the Teichmüller space of onto the Teichmüller space of is induced by some quasiconformal map of onto . Consequently we can find an uncountable set of Riemann surfaces whose Teichmüller spaces are not biholomorphically equivalent.

     

System performance analysis of cooperative multihop relaying network applying approximation to dual‐hop relaying network

In this paper, the closed‐form expressions for outage probability, channel capacity, and average symbol error probability are derived for amplify‐and‐forward multihop relay network. Based on approximation of multihop relay by dual‐hop relay systems, the analytical expressions are obtained for the case when maximal ratio combining technique is employed at each relay while destination node uses selection combining technique. The impact of system and channel parameters on the system performances is investigated, and numerical results are graphically presented. The derived analytical expressions are verified by numerical simulation.

An Example of Human-Centric Sensor Network: Be Responsible Platform

The paper addresses the Be Responsible platform, a representative example of human-centric sensing network which, relying on the Info-Communication and Internet of Things concepts, aims to improve the communication between citizens, on one side, and government authorities, on the other side, with the purpose of resolving various problems encountered in a modern society. A widespread network of human-centric smartphone devices and PCs has been used as a valuable source of data collected and processed in order to trigger adequate actions upon problem resolving. In this way, humans acting as sensor operators and data sources become a powerful factor in improving their society. The Be Responsible platform enables the people to report the irregularities in various aspects of their social life (grey economy, misuse of government vehicles, ecology, traffic), and hence to take active part in resolving them. It also promotes positive and responsible social and institutional behavior, which has to be nurtured in any society seeking progress. The number of submitted reports as well as the money collected from the fine revenues and subsequently invested in projects of social good, undoubtedly prove that what could not be achieved through years of traditional government-led policy approach, was achieved in months of citizen engagement.     

基于剪切波域改进Gamma校正的医学图像增强算法

为了解决医学图像在采集和传输过程中引入噪 声和干扰导致图像质量恶化从而严重影响医学诊断的问题,提出 一种基于剪切波(shearlet)域改进Gamma校正的图像增强方法。首先,通过剪切波变换,把 图像分解成高频 部分和低频部分;其次,用改进的Gamma校正处理剪切波分解后的低频部分以调整图像的整 体对比 度,采用改进的自适应阈值函数对高频部分进行去噪;最后,把剪切波反变换的重构图 像进行模糊对比 增强,以突出图像的细节信息。实验结果表明,本文算法的峰值信噪比(PSNR )、结构相似度(SSIM)和 绝对均值差(MAE)优于其他对比算法,尤其是PSNR的提升更加明显。这些 客观指标说明,本 文算法不仅能有效地抑制噪声,而且能明显改善增强对比度。从主观方面观察,本文算法与 其他算法相比,能获得更好的视觉效果。
