Synthesis and comparative solution properties of single‐, twin‐, and triple‐tailed associating ionic polymers based on diallylammonium salts

The cycloterpolymerizations of single‐, twin‐, and triple‐tailed hydrophobes with hydrophilic monomer N,N‐diallyl‐N‐carboethoxymethylammonium chloride and sulfur dioxide afforded a series of cationic polyelectrolytes (CPEs) in excellent yields. These CPEs, upon the acidic hydrolysis of the pendent ester groups, gave the corresponding pH‐responsive cationic acid salts, which, upon a treatment with sodium hydroxide, were converted to polybetaines (PBs), anionic polyelectrolytes (APEs), and PB/APE polymers containing various proportions of zwitterionic (PB) and anionic fractions (APE) in the polymer chain. At a shear rate of 0.36 s⁻¹ at 30 °C, salt‐free water solutions of the CPEs (2 g/dL) containing 8, 4, and 2.67 mol % of the single‐, twin‐, and triple‐tailed hydrophobes (all having 8 mol % octyloxy tails) had apparent viscosity values of 70, 2800, and 396,000 cps, respectively. The PB/APE polymer with a ratio of 33:67 for the zwitterionic and anionic fractions in the polymer chain gave the highest viscosity value. The superior viscosity behavior of the polymers containing the triple‐tailed hydrophobe was attributed to the blocky nature of the comonomer. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Electrical properties of polypyrrole/p‐InP structure

The polypyrrole/p‐InP structure has been fabricated by the electrochemical polymerization of the organic polypyrrole onto the p‐InP substrate. The current–voltage (I–V), capacitance–voltage (C–V), and capacitance–frequency (C–f) characteristics of the PPy/p‐InP structure have been determined at room temperature. The structure showed nonideal I–V behavior with the ideality factor and the barrier height 1.48 and 0.69 eV respectively. C–f measurements of the structure have been carried out using the Schottky capacitance spectroscopy technique and it has been seen that there is a good agreement between the experimental and theoretical values. Also, it has been seen that capacitance almost show a plateau up to a certain value of frequency, after which, the capacitance decreases. The higher values of capacitance at low frequencies were attributed to the excess capacitance resulting from the interface states in equilibrium with the p‐InP that can follow the a.c. signal. The interface state density N_ss and relaxation time τ of the structure were determined from C–f characteristics. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Metal-Assisted Oxidative Cyclization of Arylamidrazones I. Synthesis of 3-Acetyl-1,4-dihydro-1-phenyl-1,2,4-benzotriazine

In the presence of RuCl₃, N-phenylamidrazone underwent oxidative cyclization into 1,4-dihydro-1-phenyl-1,2,4-benzotriazine, the structure of which is established by spectral and X-ray diffraction data.     

Electrochemical properties of a network polymer based on tetra(sulfonatophenyl)-meta-cyclophanoctol

Conductivity of the network polymer based on tetra(sulfonatophenyl)-meta-cyclophanoctol in the H⁺, Na⁺, Cu²⁺, Zn²⁺, and Ni²⁺ forms is studied, and the self-diffusion coefficients and activation energies of diffusion of the metal cations in the polymer phase are estimated.     

Spiro compounds with fragments of 4-azafluorene-[indeno)2,3-e)-1,2-dihydropyridine] and pyrazoline

9-Phenacylidene-4-azaf luorene and 9-bromo-9-(-bromophenacyl)-4-azafluorene have been used in the synthesis of spiro compounds with fragments of substituted pyrazolines. 1-Methyl-2-oxo-5 phenacylidene-indeno[2, 3-e]-1,2-dihydropyridine and hydrazine gave 1-methyl-2-oxo-3 phenylspiro[indeno(2, 3-e)-1,2-dihydropyridine-5,5-pyrazoline-2].     

The high resolution infrared spectrum and laser Stark spectroscopy of thev8 band of propyne

The perpendicularv ₈ band lying in the 1000–1100 cm^–1 region has been studied from infrared and laser Stark, spectra. We were interested in the part of spectrum corresponding to the spectral range of the 9 m CO₂ laser lines. Assignments of rovibrational lines with J'<40 and K'<6 have been made. About 100 Stark resonances have been assigned to 12 rovibrational transitions. Effective molecular constants and dipole moment have been determined with high accuracy. A list of close resonances with CO₂ laser lines is given and may be used for optical pumping experiments.     

Heterocyclic synthesis via enaminones: Novel synthesis of (1H)‐pyridin‐2‐one,pyrazolo[1,5‐a]pyrimidine and isoxazole derivatives incorporating a N‐methylphthalimide and their biological evaluation

Novel synthesis of (1H)‐pyridin‐2‐one, pyrazolo[1,5‐a]pyrimidine and isoxazole derivatives incorporating N‐methylphthalimide moiety are reported. Reaction of enaminone 2 with malononitrile affords 4. Condensation of 2 with cyanothioacetamide or benzoylacetonitrile affords compounds 6 and 7 respectively. Reaction of 2 with hydrazine hydrate afford 2,3‐dihydrophthalazine‐1,4‐dione ( 10 ). Condensation of 2 with hydroxylamine and 3‐aminopyrazole derivatives affords compounds 12 and 15a,b respectively. Antimicrobial and antifungal activity were determined for representative compounds and most of them showed moderate activity as antimicrobial agents, while compounds 2 and 7 show strong activity against Aspergillus niger. The structure of the newly synthesized compounds was elucidated by elemental analyses and ¹H nmr spectra and some cases by ¹³C nmr investigation.     

Air microwave-induced plasma: Relation between ion density and atomic oxygen density

Electron temperature and ion density are measured in an air microwave-induced plasma (2450 MHz) by means of a floating double probe. A 'cinetic scheme for ion formation and decay is set up, and a relationship between atomic oxygen and ion densities is obtained. From this relationship an order-of-magnitude of atomic oxygen concentration in the discharge is derived and compared with results obtained by optical actinometry in another work.     

Synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical and electrochromic properties of sandwich dilutetium tetraphthalocyanine

A new sandwich-tpype dilutetium tetraphthalocyanine 4 has been synthesized by the reaction of dimeric lutetium(III) phthalocyanine 3 with two equiv. of dilithium octakishexylthiophthalocyanine in amyl alcohol. Compound 3 was prepared from 4',5',4",5"-tetraiminoisoindoline(1,4,7,10-tetrathia-12-crown-4) 1, 4,5-bis(hexylthio)-1,2-diiminoisoindoline and lutetium acetate in amyl alcohol. Compounds 3 and 4 were characterized by elemental analysis, UV/visible, IR, (1)H NMR and ESR spectroscopy. The electrochemical and electrochromic properties of 3 and 4 have been examined by cyclic voltammetry. Both 3 and 4 displayed well-defined electrochromic behavior.     

On the Synthesis of 3-Acetyl-1-aryl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1 H-1,2,4-triazepin-7-ones by Reaction of Nitrilimines with 3-Aminopropanoic Acid

Nitrilimines were prepared from N-arylhydrazono chlorides and reacted with -alanine yielding the corresponding amidrazones, which were treated with 1,1-carbonyldiimidazole in THF affording the hitherto unknown 3-acetyl-1-aryl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazepin-7-ones.
