Algebras of holomorphic mappings in (DF)-spaces

Let U be an absolutely convex open subset of a complex barrelled (DF)-space E and let F be a commutative Banach algebra with identity. Let H_b(U, F) be the space of holomorphic mappings from U into F that are bounded on the U-bounded sets and let H_b (U, F) be the space of the holomorphic mappings from U into F that are uniformly weakly continuous on the U-bounded sets, both endowed with the topology τ_b of uniform convergence on the U-bounded sets. The spectra of (H_wu (U, F), τ_b) and (H_b(U, F), τ_b) are studied.     

FIR Laser Lines from CH3OD: A Review

The methanol isotopic species CH₃OD has also proved to be an efficient and powerful medium to generate radiation in the far infrared (FIR) region. After the critical review of 1994, six papers have been published dealing with new FIR laser lines from this molecule. As a consequence of the use of wide tunability waveguide CO₂ lasers as well as a new pulsed CO₂ laser operating at hot and sequential bands, as of optical pumping sources, the total number of the FIR laser lines increased from 122 in 1994 to 227 today. In this communication we present an updated and complete catalogue of FIR laser lines generated from CH₃OD. Information on wavelength, offset, relative polarization, intensity, and optimum operation pressure is generally available.     

Diode laser and Fourier transform spectroscopy of the13CH3OH C-O stretching mode

In this work we present high resolution Doppler limited absorption spectra measurements of the C-O stretching mode of¹³CH₃OH, obtained from diode laser spectroscopy, and the Fourier Transform spectrum obtained at 0.12 cm^?1 resolution. By using these data and previously known spectroscopic information, we determined the frequency and the J quantum number for the multiplets of the P and R(J) branches of the C-O stretching fundamental band. Infrared transitions in coincidence with emission lines of the regular CO₂ laser and some of its isotope parents are pointed out.     

Self-interaction in the von Kármán cosmic string street configuration

We study the problem of electromagnetic self-interaction of line sources in the presence of an array of parallel cosmic strings akin to the von Kármán vortex street configuration. Keeping in mind possible applications in condensed matter physics we consider also a mixed array where both deficit angle and excess angle cosmic strings appear. We obtain explicit expressions for both the electric and magnetic self-energies for the cases studied and demonstrate that these results reproduce the known self-energies in the single-string limit.

DCOOD optically pumped by a 13CO2 laser: new terahertz laser lines

In this work we report on new optically pumped THz laser lines from deuterated formic acid (DCOOD). An isotopic ¹³CO₂ laser was used for the first time as a pump source for this molecule, and a Fabry–Perot cavity was used as a THz laser resonator. Optoacoustic absorption spectra were used as a guide to search for new THz laser lines. We could observe six new laser lines in the range from 303.8 μm (0.987 THz) to 725.1 μm (0.413 THz). The lines were characterized according to wavelength, relative polarization, relative intensity, and optimum working pressure. The transferred lamb-dip technique was used to measure the frequency absorption transition for both of these laser lines. Furthermore, we also present a catalogue of all THz laser lines generated from DCOOD.     

Nuclear alterations associated to programmed cell death in larval salivary glands of Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

The silk glands of bees are a good model for the study of cell death in insects. With the objective to detect the nuclear features during glandular regression stage, larvae at the last instar and pre-pupae were collected and their silk glands were dissected and processed for ultrastructural analysis and histologically for cytochemical and imunocytochemical analysis. The results showed that the cellular nuclei exhibited characteristics of death by atypical apoptosis as well as autophagic cell death. Among the apoptosis characteristic were: nuclear strangulation with bleb formation in some nuclei, DNA fragmentation in most of the nuclei and nucleolar fragmentation. Centripetal chromatin compaction was observed in many nuclei, forming a perichromatin halo differing from typical apoptotic nuclei. With regards to the characteristics of autophagic-programmed cell death, most relevant was the delay in the collapse of many nuclei.
